a possible arthur design for this story? i've had some trouble with him. i don't want him to look so different from canon arthur that it's not clear who he is, but i really like the idea of him having a beard. my arthur also has a different body type, he's shorter than merlin but not too short, and he's a lot fatter and hairier (partially because i think that makes him hotter, lol) - i like his design so far and i think it works with the blend of arthuriana and bbc merlin canon that this project is meant to emulate.

my friend suggested arthur with a ring of gold in his eyes to match merlin (and the flag of camelot) and i thought that was very fun! i think it works best for an older arthur once magic has been returned to camelot... here's my rendition of that concept!

⭐️ Design Notes:

Image #1: A general body map. Includes some scars that Merlin will acquire over the course of the story. I've always liked the way Merlin has been described as having wiry muscle, and although my depiction of Merlin is far from muscular, he can definitely still hold his own despite his slightly scrawny build (though he is not nearly as twinkish as most portray him, nor as Colin Morgan.)

Image #2: Merlin's usual outfit. I stuck to form in a lot of ways, because I do enjoy his goofy getup. Merlin definitely owns a few different shirts and eventually acquires a neckerchief (scarf) in every color, but he prefers his blue tunic and red neckerchief. Merlin wears two pairs of socks, but he lost half of a pair, hence why he is depicted wearing three socks total. He got his ears pierced as a dare from Will, and his earrings were a gift from Morgana he received his first week in Camelot.

Image #3: A variation on Merlin's usual outfit. Notice how in all of these images he wears the same boots: they're a comforting item for Merlin. He enjoys the way that they feel and how they fit and refuses to replace them, despite his friends' nagging and offers of a possible gift. Gaius speculates that he must be using magic to maintain them, it's the only logical explanation, but he doesn't say anything on the matter, and nobody seems to comment on their lasting.

Image #4: A more formal outfit for Merlin. Probably a gift from Arthur. The sun symbol is associated with Camelot.

Image #5: I'm putting more of an emphasis on Merlin's role as Gaius' apprentice. This is Merlin's little getup for helping Gaius with surgery and such.

Image #6: I don't know if Merlin will have an opportunity to wear an outfit like this, but I wanted to design this anyway. Albion is pretty accepting of trans and gender non-conforming individuals, although it's not as common in Camelot. Despite this, it does take Merlin some time to become more open about his identity and try things out.

Image #7: Merlin's "Dragoon the Great" disguise. He's a bit shorter than Merlin, and I used red as his main color rather than the typical blue that I'm using for Merlin. (Some symbolism for his role in the story, or something like that?) I also thought about including The Dolma in this story, but I decided I wanted her to be a separate character from Merlin.

Image #8: This is the last outfit I did, and I'm not 100% certain as to how I'm going to fit it into the story, but I do have some ideas. It's a kind of cheesy witch getup, yeah, but I really couldn't help myself! I couldn't get the image of Merlin in a magical girl anime inspired outfit. Very much Sailor Moon vibes.

Image #9: An older Merlin - though it's hard to tell because he ages extremely slowly. Merlin is an extremely consistent person, he likes what he likes and he stays pretty consistent with it. I think he may be a bit neurodivergent, teehee. This doubles as a "court sorcerer" outfit.

Image #10: A more modern Merlin. Not quite 2025 fashion or anything like that.

dnd went great. des' attempt to actually reach out to joll e because its in a somewhat similar position to it (vastly different severity but both of them are culpable for the deaths of everyone theyve ever cared about 😁) failed which means now des is going to give up and just silently get worse without ever reaching out to people about it and no one will notice because the way it acts (cold and abrasive and generally unpalatable) isnt going to change at all. ME AND MY SICK LITTLE ROBOT
