”the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints sucks how can you be queer and be in that church???” What if I love being queer in direct defiance of what society expects? What if the statistic for how many young adults leave the church is so insanely high and I am a petty human who refuses to become a statistic? What if I want to be here and grow old and show the next generations of queer people in this church that it is okay and God still loves them and actually He made them queer on purpose to fit His specific plan for them? What then?

I'd like to think the dynamite in that analogy is the concept of organized religion. Organized religion can do SO MUCH unstable damage EXCEPT when it is completely saturated and absorbed by the true love of Christ.

"I don't know ... But I have a few thoughts that might help you as you find your answer to that question."
I love that, what a humble and realistic approach to religious speaking. I don't have the answers and your answer is going to be unique to you. But here are some thoughts that could be helpful

Anyway Oaks' talking about praying for your enemies reminds me once again of the challenge queerstake had awhile ago to pray for his heart to be softened and changed

Idk why I'd never thought about the fact that the sacrament bread is torn. Broken literally in uneven ragged pieces. That's a beautiful symbolism for Christ's Atonement

Talking about how our “personal views” may conflict with the gospel and then saying “In time, we will receive more spiritual clarity from our Heavenly Father”… but when I receive personal revelation that God loves me as a queer person and wants me to be happy living as one suddenly my personal revelation doesn’t count? God doesn’t hate queerness and it is not in conflict with Him!

nobody "decides to discard their faith" or "finds pleasure in the rejection of their faith"! that's an entire worldview amd sense of purpose and community! it is torturous, confusing, and heartbreaking when it stops making sense or stops helping you! talk about having no fucking compassion, my god

"mormonism is american exceptionalism" has gotta be my least favorite anti-mormon take out there like you could talk about literally anything and THAT'S what you're going with????????? like you can talk about our weird relationship with manifest destiny and colonisation (extremely valid talking points!!!!!!) but to act like some kind of specific allegiance to the united states as an institution is inherent to our doctrine is so..... silence......
