Some Jehovah's Witnesses came round to have a chat about the Bible, which turned into a deep theological discussion, and I gotta say, it's always so weird to remember that other Christians have a completely different interpretation of the Adam and Eve story than we do. It feels genuinely wild to me that most Christians believe that it was God's plan for mankind to stay in the Garden of Eden forever, and never learn about good and evil.

the opening question of the relief society lesson was "what do you do when you don't fit in?" and I was like this is my time to shine so I said "I actually feel like I might have the market cornered here because I'm literally gay," and then went on to be like "you belong because you WANT to belong, no matter what anyone else thinks, and that's the end of that" and "proceed fearlessly and be open to friendship and it will find you," I don't even remember my exact words I was just yapping with intention but yeah that was today at church

”the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints sucks how can you be queer and be in that church???” What if I love being queer in direct defiance of what society expects? What if the statistic for how many young adults leave the church is so insanely high and I am a petty human who refuses to become a statistic? What if I want to be here and grow old and show the next generations of queer people in this church that it is okay and God still loves them and actually He made them queer on purpose to fit His specific plan for them? What then?

I'd like to think the dynamite in that analogy is the concept of organized religion. Organized religion can do SO MUCH unstable damage EXCEPT when it is completely saturated and absorbed by the true love of Christ.

"I don't know ... But I have a few thoughts that might help you as you find your answer to that question."
I love that, what a humble and realistic approach to religious speaking. I don't have the answers and your answer is going to be unique to you. But here are some thoughts that could be helpful

Anyway Oaks' talking about praying for your enemies reminds me once again of the challenge queerstake had awhile ago to pray for his heart to be softened and changed

Idk why I'd never thought about the fact that the sacrament bread is torn. Broken literally in uneven ragged pieces. That's a beautiful symbolism for Christ's Atonement

Talking about how our “personal views” may conflict with the gospel and then saying “In time, we will receive more spiritual clarity from our Heavenly Father”… but when I receive personal revelation that God loves me as a queer person and wants me to be happy living as one suddenly my personal revelation doesn’t count? God doesn’t hate queerness and it is not in conflict with Him!
