marisa frowned, “ sorry,” she murmured, moving to sit down on the bench, “ I didn’t mean to compare, I just —“ she shook her head. “ we give our life to children, and they never know or want to know the sacrifices that were made for them, the efforts that we attempted…” marisa sighed softly, “ sometimes god gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers.”

she nodded her head, and then sighed softly, “ is it really the job of the child to make the life of their parent easier? they didn’t ask to be born, that was our decision.” marisa looked over her shoulder, “ trust me, I understand — I’ve done my best by kieran and they are, at most, indifferent to me.” she looked down, “ we can only do for them what we can do, and they’ll realise eventually… I hope.”

“  i  didn’t  expect  life  to  be  easier ,  “  brian  pointed  out ,  “  and  comparing  kieran  and  dakota  is  like  comparing  apples  to  oranges .  “  or  it  was  in  brian’s  perspective .  he  made  his  mistakes ,  sure , but  there  were  times  where  he  felt  as  if  all  dakota  could  really  do  was  scare  everyone  to  death .   “ yeah ,  i  hope  so  too . “

gabriel chuckled, rolling his eyes playfully, though he was sure he’d never be tired of dakota’s want for him. he slipped his hand beneath the other’s chin and brought their lips together eagerly. the man didn’t prolong it, but deepened their kiss right away as his own hand slipped up his husband’s thigh.

brian  let  out  a  heavy  sigh , “  still  tense .  “ he  looked  back  at  marisa ,  “  things  have  always  been  complicated  with  dakota .  i  know  i’ve  made  mistakes  but … he  didn’t  make  life  much  easie r either .  “

“ yeah — that’s fair,” he really did mimic most things isaac did, but it was obvious from the get go that who he was pretending to be wasn’t actually him. he smiled when isaac kissed him, and nodded enthusiastically, “ you could talk me off a bridge, mister moretti.”

kauri chuckled, doing exactly as riley asked as he eased himself into the other, cutting off his own amusement with a boss of appreciation. he brought one hand up, curling around riley’s throat, as the other gripped their hip firmly.

kauri smiled, running his hands down riley’s back, appreciating every line of their body, as he always did, and grunting quietly at their response to his touch. he freed himself of his own clothes and once again began to rock his hips against the other, his nails biting into the flesh of riley’s cheeks as he waited for frustration to build, it was a competition to see who would break first. kauri spat into his palm, sliding his hand against himself as he continued to tease riley’s entrance.

they  could  have  sworn  that  kauri  loved  teasing  them .  then  again ,  when  riley  had  the  upper  hand ,  they  knew  that  they  liked  to  do  the  same .  riley’s  hands  curled  against  the  bed  again ,  their  own  hips  pushing  back  against  kauri  knowing  full  and  well  that  they  would  be  the  one  to  break  first .  “  please  . “

gabe laughed, “ that’s really what you’re thinkin’ about right now?” dakota never failed to surprise him, but that was always a positive. they reached the bar and ordered a couple rounds, before moving towards the dance floor to join their friends and family. in no time at all, the two men were saying their goodbyes and being waved off by their loved ones as they climbed into their car to head to the airport. gabe looked over at dakota with a smile, “ how ya feelin’?”

“  it’s  what  i’m  thinking  about  all  the  time .  “  it  shouldn’t  have  been  a  surprise  at  this  point  but  dakota’s  mind  was  put  elsewhere  as  they  had  their  shots ,  their  dance ,  and  then  they  were  eventually  getting  into  the  car .  “  i’m  good ,  “  dakota  spoke  with  a  smile  as  he  looked  back  at  gabe .  “  really ,  i’m  fine . “

she smiled back at him, “ have you changed? you’re just as sweet as you’ve always been, at least to me.” marisa had lost a lot of friends over the years, when she decided to marry gabriel despite his criminal record and her family’s preferences for her way of life, when she divorced gabriel despite her beliefs, when she fell for cal, and when she distanced herself from everyone she knew to be wrapped up in him. the only constant in her life seemed to be brian, even lilah had long since abandoned marisa. she bumped her arm against his own, “ I’m here for you too, you know?”

josh watched kieran, biting his lower lip as the other stripped out of their clothes. he moved to sit on the bed, his eyes latched onto every movement the other made. maybe it was the atmosphere, or the alcohol, but kieran was pretty damn captivating and he couldn’t wait for what would come next. he leaned back, and smirked when his gaze finally met their own, “ come here.”

“ I don’t care if anybody sees us naked, but your family seems healthier than mine,” josh chuckled, finally finding a spare room and making his way inside. he locked the door behind them and looked kieran over, “ strip for me.”

kieran  almost  laughed ,  “  we’re  not  that  healthy .  “  or  at  least ,  some  of  them  weren’t  .  the  two  made  their  way  into  the  room  and  kieran  didn’t  hesitate  to  kick  their  shoes  off .  “  yes  sir ,  “  kieran  taunted  as  they  pulled  their  shirt  up ,  unbuttoning  it  before  shrugging  it  off .  they  kept  their  eyes  on  joshua  as  they  undid  their  belt ,  eventually  pushing  their  own  pants  down  and  off .

he lifted his brows, surprised by that admission and a little pleased, if matteo was being honest with himself. “ this could have happened earlier…” he pointed out, though he was sure the irony of having a more private place for their first kiss was surely not missed on august. he looked away again and sighed softly, “ well, there is tonight.”

matteo  nodded  his  head,  letting  go  of  august’s  hand  and  glancing  around  them,  there  didn’t  appear  to  be  anybody  else  around  and  that  certainly  made  it  easier.  he  leaned  in,  pressing  his  lips  to  august’s  own.  it  wasn’t  entirely  unfamiliar,  it  wasn’t  as  if  he’d  never  done  this,  but  with  august  it  felt  momentarily  bizarre,  and  then  –  good.

the  truth  was ,  august  wasn’t  completely  sure  on  what  matteo  wanted  to  try .  he  knew  the  two  of  them  were  throwing  caution  to  the  wind  for  a  night , but  that  didn’t  mean  he  saw  what  matteo  did  coming . it  was  an  odd  feeling  but  it  was  one  that  august  could  appreciate .  he  leaned  into  matteo ,  raising  a  hand  to  cup  his  jaw .

dakota  looked  back  at  gabe  when  the  man  stopped . he  kept  his  eyes  on  the  older  man’s  own ,  offering  a  nod  of  his  head  as  he  spoke .  dakota  knew  it  wasn’t  his  fault  but  there  was  still  apart  of  him  that  felt  guilty  for  some  of  this .  his  knee  jerk  reaction  was  to  apologize  again  but  instead  he  leaned  in ,  pressing  a  gentle  kiss  to  gabriel’s  lips .  “  i  love  you  .  “  he  took  a hold  of  one  of  gabe’s  hand ,  “  lets  enjoy  the  rest  of  our  night . “

matteo felt a little better when august finally responded, momentarily caught off guard by the other’s hand on his face, though it did only deepen the desire that he felt for the other man. maybe it was the idea of just seeing where the night took them, almost as if there were no rules and no repercussions come tomorrow, but matteo felt more confident. when the two parted, he smiled, “ I’m embarrassed to admit that this isn’t the first time I’ve thought about that.”
