Imagine she casually mentions that she thinks gay people are ok. If the most perfect girl in the world isnt homophobic then no one should be. all of a sudden the kokomins are gay rights activists gay marriage is legal everywhere and homophobia is a thing of the past. It could happen

silly enough, i found myself unable to pick either options too. In hindsight, that should've told me something. I reallly like the average written response goes into the nuance of it—how, though squirmy, these characters & the traits they have still serve some purpose other than humor. Telling of the writing ^_^

#i like problematic characters and i like exploring how their Problematic Trait’s could be mitigated or effected in fanworks#like makoto is one of my favs bc#even though his character is mainly an incest joke#i like thinking abt his dynamic with kokomi#how he became the person he is and how the teruhashi’s god-powers wouldve impacted him#whether he’s a garden variety perv or if his interest in kokomi is entirely the result of her powers or a mix of the two#idk. i guess retcon if i HAD to choose an option#like i font mind fanworks that erase makoto’s existence#but for example. if u retcon kusuke bc of his creepy behavior towards kusuo kusuo himself has to become a diff chafactdr#bc kusukes inferiority complex and the way he created the limiters are MASSIVE impacts on kusuo’s current beliefs about his powers.#if u remove kusuke from a narrative than kusuo is an entirely different person#so neither is my final answer i guess but. retcon if i ABSOLUTELY had to choose#also goes without sayingb that the inverse is true for kokomi and makoto’s relationship. i also like thinkinng abt how kokomi is impacted by#his abusive behavior bc i think its interesting thag he is genuinely one of the only characters who can make her snap#to me its a sign that deep down she really does care for and love him#and i think having. that abusive relationship as a part of her homelife for forever. being venerated and sexualized even by her own sibling#probably contributes to the way she justifies the harassment she undergoes from strangers in canon#she cant truly accept that makoto’s behavior is wrong because her entire worldview would crumble if she did#but she is very obviously traumatized bh his actions#this is turning into a thesis on teruhashi sibs SORRY OP i like to ramble in tags

#neither sorta.. i just use the characters problematic traits for character growth#kusuke specifically has a lot of problems which i sometimes halfway ignore when i don't feel like being super angsty#becsuse no matter how you interpret his ACTUAL character.. nobody is having a good time.. usually#sometimes though i do retcon certain things ONLY when i think that the writing is the problem and not the character itself#like if the writer writes something with the intention of it being normal but the writer themself is just weird or uneducated#like in romance anime where the main love interest is just a whole pervert and they treat it as a super silly thing but its not#in my brain i know that its the writer whose weird so i can interpret that character however the hell i want#that usually doesnt happen in saiki k because the writing is really good but..#i think we all agree that the random off handed transphobia and homophobia is just a cultural uneducated guy thing and we can retcon that..#right??? please guys

#like you can write a chatacter who is a terrible person without changing anything#and you can write the character by mitigating the traits but retcon implies you get rid of them entirely#ill say retcon the traits bc i did not get rid of takahashi in my saiki k fics but i did remove his um. face.#im much more uncomfortable portraying a character modeled after blackface than i am portraying a character who's fucked in the head#fictional characters being terrible people will always be preferable to fictional characters actively and unopposedly portraying negative //#stereotypes that genuinely hurt real people#and yeah men being creeps has hurt people but theres a wide array of creepiness. theres not a big range of racism.
