Final mock-ups
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are the final mock ups I have created. I have gone for neutral times and experimenting with different shape and sized Polaroids. I am really happy with how they turned out despite the challenges I had faced during the time of creating it. I think they really capture Tracey Emin’s ‘My Bed’ whilst also adding my interpretation of the meaning.

Mock up experiment
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Using photoshop I was able to create these two mock ups as experiments for my final double page spreads. I really like the look of the Polaroid effect and think they are a great thing to work with. However these did not really satisfy me that much as I felt that I could elevate them a bit more.

Double page spread inspo
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are some examples of Polaroid editorial double page spreads that I really enjoy and will be taking inspiration from. I really like the Idek of having one image over a collective of Polaroids as it looks broken up but still so put together. They are all very minimalist and do not require much as they already make such a big effect. I can’t wait to experiment and see what I come up with using these as a spring board of ideas.

Final editing attempt
Using this video I found on tiktok I was able to follow along using the settings provided to create the desired look.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the outcome of using the tiktok video. I really like this effect and think it is the closest to the vision that I had in my head. I think it really replicated a Polaroid image and I have also added the picture into a Polaroid to give it the full effect. I am really happy with this method and feel I will certainly use it in my final outcome

Final editing attempt
Using this tiktok video I had found I was able to use the settings provided in order to create the effect that I wanted
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I personally believe that this is my best attempt and I have even photoshopped it into a Polaroid to give the full effect. I am really happy with how the editing has turned out on this picture and definitley think that I will be using this setting in my final outcome.

Editing attempt number 2
youtube
This is the second video I followed in order to try and get the desired effect.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the before and after of following the video and although it was a huge improvement compared the the first I still believe it does accurately match the vision in my head of the effect that I want to create.

Editing attempt 1
youtube
Using this YouTube video to guide me I tried to create a Polaroid camera effect that would go inside my Polaroid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the before and after which did make a visible difference however I just was not happy with the result and did not think it effectively have off the retro camera effect.

Polaroid editorials
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Using these pictures I found on Pinterest I really liked the idea of editing my pictures as if to look like they were taken on a Polaroid. I think the Polaroid technique adds to that sense of a raw photo and there is something quite playful about it. I also think that having a Polaroid effect is also a nod to Tracey Emin who does not strive for perfection and is rather rough around the edges. This is the road I definitely want to go down when creating my double page spread and simply requires experimentation.

Some pictures from the shoot
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wanted the pictures to really focus on the outfit rather than hair and makeup as it’s silhouette is rather interesting and the use of bedsheets and safety pins is something I wanted to highlight. This look to me highlights more of the fact that people have become bed bound during this COVID period and have been left to their own company. Although I am not as keen on these pictures I do believe that the story behind them does embody ‘my bed’ and is something to be talked about.

Outfit number 2
Tumblr media
Using Jordan Dalah as inspiration I took the idea of bed sheet clothing and made it my own. Her imagination and creativity really inspired me and helped through this odd time.
Tumblr media
Using pillow cases and bed sheets I was able to create this look. Although it is relatively simple I feel as though the structure is new and shows my initiative. This look is dainty and feminine but also has some power due to the volume of the sleeve/cape.

Shoot day number 2
After completing my first shoot I was very confident in my idea and was ready to put together a second look that was cohesive but also different. However, unexpectedly I had gotten the corona virus and was bound to my parents bedroom where I was left to use my initiative to come up with a second look and a set up. This proved to be quite a challenge as there was not much space available to me. However, I did manage to find a corner of the room where I was able to place a bare mattress and shoot the pictures that I needed.

Some final pictures from the shoot
Tumblr media
These are some images that I was able to acquire from the shoot. As most photoshoots go there are some that I loved and some that I hated. I played around with angles and distance in order to try and find which best suited the theme and showed the clothing the best. The further down the camera roll we get the most pictures I like. This is because I feel you can see the styling clearly and the angle makes the picture look more interesting and dynamic.

Outfit number 1
Tumblr media
For my first outfit this was my main source of inspiration. I love the layering, the coordinating colours and the mix between conservative and revealing. I feel as though this look is very interchangeable and can be made to look more feminine or masculine depending on your desired look. I also felt that this look was also very accessible and in a time where you could not go out to buy clothes it was a great starting point for me to use what I already have to create a look.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the look I really liked the almost ‘half dressed’ look with the sweater that isn’t completely on and the underwear over the leggings. I took this into my own look and draped a brown sweater over a black racer top whilst wearing one sleeve and having another arm out. This was then paired with black leggings under some black boxers and some brown woolly socks to match the brown sweater. I like this look and feel that it screams comfort without being completely conventional.
For the hair and makeup I decided to go very natural. The hair was slightly messy and back combed to give it a ‘bed head’ look whilst I also decided to not put on any makeup. This is me at my most comfy, my true form. In reality I would not be wearing glamorous makeup on bed. I wanted to keep it real and raw and felt that to do so that would be the best decision.

Shoot day number 1
Tumblr media
As the coronavirus has bounded us to our homes, it was time to use my initiative and think of a way to replicate this piece from my four walls. The obvious and initial thought that came to mind was using my own bed. It is my safe space, the place I can relax and are comfortable to be the most me. For this I moved my mattress into an open space where I was able to have a clean blank wall in the background and room to set up my phone. The mattress was dressed in all white sheets and finished off with two white pillows and a brown fluffy blanket that would tie in the outfit I had in mind. I made sure that the bed looked inviting and lived in as I wanted to show what I feel represents ‘my bed’. To the side there are also some flowers as I believe they also bring comfort and peace so represent the message nicely whilst also adding colour and dimension.

Photo timer +
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Due to COVID I had to become my own model for the shoot. Because of this I was looking for an app that would take high quality pictures on a self timer. That is when I came across photo timer +, an app that would allow me to take multiple pictures at once so that I would not have to keep moving from position to camera throughout the shoot. With this app you are able to choose how many pictures are taken at once and the intervals in-between each photo. I’m really glad I found this app as I think it will come in handy when it is time to do the photoshoot.

This video enabled me to learn how to take quality pictures from the comfort at home. Ideally we would all like to be in the studio with a quality camera however the corona virus has given us an opportunity to use our initiative and use what we have around us to create quality pictures.

Ellen von Unwerth
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ellen von Unwerth is a German photographer and director. She worked as a fashion model for ten years before becoming a photographer, and now makes fashion, editorial, and advertising photographs. Her style of photography is very much about celebrating women and celebrating their power through imagery. I love this as although the images are glamorous they also have a sense of reality to them and highlight celebrating the true you and that is something that I also want to embody.
