Venus. Part of my senior thesis. She was the first one I did actually, was kind of cool to look at her and compare her to the later pieces. Her hair was supposed to be like a nebula cloud. From this point, i pushed myself in rendering different textures, especially gems, metal, and silky things. I’d love to redo her someday.

Charcoal was fun, but this is prolly the best I got out of it in college haha.
I understood everything and nothing at the same time. We were like friends passionately discussing something we were looking at, trying to make words into the shape of our muse, but coming out in two completely different places. I never quite got the flow of it, but my favorite way to work was laying down tone in vine, scrubbing it in, and working the basic lights from there. Then making the shadows bloom. Constant push-pull, finding the form while fighting my insecurities.
Somehow, a face formed.

You’re vibrant, in bloom…
This was my first self portrait after i cut my hair for the first time. I never really finished her. They asked me to communicate meaning in each part of my choices, but I just wanted to make something pretty. I think I gave up when I started soft-blending the colors. I still struggle to figure out how i want to paint.
