Headcanon Kanej have to be fake married for a job. So they sign some paperwork and the dregs hold a little wedding ceremony which invloves throwing flower petals and bits of waffle at them and shouting praises. Now this is a few years after ck so they’re having fun begrudgingly going along with it.

The job goes pretty well, albeit being a little chaotic, and as time passes the ordeal is forgotten. Not entirely though. Their friends, as well as the rest of the dregs just won’t let it go, referring to them as ‘the happy couple’, 'King and Queen of the Barrel’ or 'Mr. and Mrs. Brekker’ and also making some occasional but still very innapropriate comments/questions.

Inej isn’t too terribly upset, she knows how they can, be but the joke is getting old. She’s also surpised that Kaz doesn’t seem very distressed.

It’s not until exactly a year later, when Inej finds a little bundle of wild geraniums and a new knife sitting in her cabin on the Wraith, and a note in Kaz’s familiar handwriting stating, 'Happy anniversary’ that Inej starts to be suspicious.

She does some digging, and finds out the paperwork they signed was legitimate. Meaning, they’d been legally married for an entire fucking year. Needless to say she is shocked, confused, upset, and also…happy?

She immediately goes to find him at the Slat.

“Hello, husband.” She says sourly, giving him the 'I know what you did’ glare.

He grins, “happy anniversary darling.”

“I really can’t believe you sometimes.”

“Thats what makes me so fun.”

“Is tricking someone into legally marrying you fun?” She grabbed hin by the collar of his shirt and pulled him down to look at her, “WHY COULDN’T YOU HAVE TOLD ME ABOUT THIS MONTHS AGO!”

“It’s not my fault you took so long to figure it out.”

“You’re a bastard.”

“Ah, but you love me anyway.”

“I love you?”

“Well are you going to divorce me?”

“I-” she sighs, “No, I guess I’m not. But you’re on thin ice.”

He escaped her grasp, then kissed her on the cheek. “Love you too,” he said as he slipped out the door.
