Mike Wheeler is the type of guy to be so irrationally scared of his friends deciding he sucks and leaving him that at the very first hint that they might actually go he preemptively leaves first to maintain some control over the situation and his friends feel his distance and then they really do pull away so Mike pulls away even more in response and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy even though no one was ever actually going to leave him and this is exactly what happened between Will moving and California in this essay I will

the joyce and will flashback scene in castle byers from s1 is truly superior. the password to castle byers being lotr related; amazing. 'all friends welcome'; showstopping. joyce's witch voice that was undoubtedly 100% terrifying; fantastic. will's voice when he said 'i don't get scared of things like that anymore'; awesome. joyce tickling will; gorgeous. them laughing and being happy and the cut to castle byers being empty showing it being devoid of happiness because will isn't there showing how much happiness will brings to joyce and the environment around them and why will should save hawkins to show how much he gives to this town and makes it alive almost-[GUNSHOTS]; brilliant.

I’m sure this has been pointed out before, but Dustin displays such a clear example of the heteronormative lens right in front of us.

Dustin expects Robin and Steve to be together, for the simple reason that they are a man and a woman and they get along well, so they have to like each other right? And it’s not Dustin’s fault either, this is a byproduct of the society be grew up in, one that forces him to view things through heteronormativity.

The dramatic irony is that we as the audience know why Steve and Robin aren’t together— and it’s because of Robin’s sexuality and the fact that she actually has her eyes on another girl.

But the irony ON TOP of the irony is that the audience (or at least most of the GA) is falling for the exact same thing that Dustin is. It’s happening right in front of their faces and they don’t even realize it. Only this time it’s for Mike and El.

Mike and El are a man and a woman. They get along, and they have a lot of love for each other which means that they should be together, right? Yes they have many glaringly obvious problems, but that’s just how it works right? Right?

Unless the sexuality of one of them was actually in the way of loving that person romantically and they actually had eyes for someone of the same sex.

actually my favorite thing abt milkvans and anti bylers in general is the way they invalidate jobs like set design and music composition and think that these people just go out and look up a random pinterest board a teenage boys room and throw anything on the walls and buy a random bed set from ebay and put absolutely no thought into the characters and their interests and absolutely no information from the duffers on how to design their rooms and also thinking that the music has absolutely nothing to do with the show and that we’re “looking for patterns” but the patterns line up and make sense and the duffers even said the music in st is really important because they felt like a lot of other shows and movies used music as an afterthought meaning the music is is actually VERY thought out in st and like wow I love being proven right and respecting peoples jobs within the industry.

There are two wolves inside of me. One wolf believes Mike is bisexual and believes that Mike did have a crush on El in s1 and Midleven is supposed to be the prime example of middle school crushes and puppy love that people inevitably grow out of as they get older and as they start to find something more mature, serious, and long-term with someone they genuinely love. The other wolf believes Mike is strictly gay and believes that Mike never actually had a crush on El and he just felt pressured into liking her romantically by his friends and he convinced himself he had a crush on her when he didn't and Midleven was just a prime example of a confused and scared gay kid mixing up his feelings and conforming to society's expectations by dating the first girl who liked him and paid attention to him.

This is a battle I struggle with everyday and is the reason why I cannot fully settle on bi Mike or gay Mike 😔
