CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Gilded Dirt, issue iv
After a long subaquatic slumber Gilded Dirt has returned to the surface with the BERMUDA ▲ SADCORE issue ! Drifting ashore this summer !
As though transmitting from within the ‘vile vortex’, the plaintive music of Weyes Blood serves as a warning to treat the open ocean with reverence. Between the reluctant mermaid of Seven Words, the amphibious starlet beckoning her audience underwater in Movies, the waterlogged chorals of In Holy Flux and the whirlpool of classical collisions on Front Row Seat - the real (and make-believe) horrors and wonders of the sea are never far from sight.
Taking cues from the imagined wreckage recovery of 2019’s Titanic Rising, we invite you into the doldrums in search of treasure; glimpses of a phantom vessel, underwater cities in rust, abandoned sea forts, devotional letters cast adrift, living fossils, vampiric squid, titanic fauna and any trace of life after all in the sunken catacombs.
We are looking for submissions of poetry, flash fiction and flash essays on the topic of..
aimless drifting..
"aliens" of The Abyss..
Andromeda + Cetus..

ISSUE 3 CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Dear friends and contributors,
We live in strange times, caught up in all sorts of tangible and intangible debris. We look to the future and we look to the past; culture itself is perpetual recycling. Our leaders poke around in the melted plasticities of defunct ideologies, raising such corpses to adorn real wealth. At the risk of spinning off on the actual material implications of Deleuzo-Guattarian wisdom (‘We live today in the age of partial objects, bricks that have been shattered to bits, and leftovers’), I’ll try keep this sweet and short.
Gilded Dirt is looking towards its ~ third ~ issue, with the theme of:
V I B R A N T ~ R U I N S
As per usual, we want to put out an issue that splits at the seams with your beautiful, kitsch and mismatched content. We want the scraps and debris as much as the pure and finished project. What sloughs off or is smoothed by the sea; what crumbles as rock or showers like acid through a vapourwave palm. We want your bottletop poems, your broken renderings of capitalism’s decaying pantheons. We want your notes, your ambient detritus of emotional atmosphere. We want lists, diary entries, partial sketches. We want your straight-up lyric regret, your earnest elegy or ironic sonnet. Think of matter out of place, microplastics scattered in distant, humanly impermeable reaches. (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/feb/12/microplastics-pollute-most-remote-and-uncharted-areas-of-the-ocean). Think personal, think political, think ecological. Think plasticity. Think stone. Think weird.
We want you to take the theme and be as direct or abstract as you’d like. The issue’s form will be dictated by the content submitted.
We are looking for all sorts of content related to VIBRANT RUINS as you interpret it: visual media (photography, art, drawing, short film), music, poetry, prose, non-fiction, flash fiction, hybrid textualities & the vivid debris of all broken process made whole as form. Depending on the content you send, it will either end up in issue #3 and/or as part of our ongoing blogroll @ https://sabrina-vs-misty.tumblr.com.
Some further inspiration:
urban decay; architectural curios; hauntology; pastel rust & flake; Jane Bennett’s Vibrant Matter & theory of thing-power; chromatic fragmentation; J.G. Ballard’s Crash; suspended moments; amnesia cured in pieces; strange monuments and memorabilia; items of kitsch; tasteless pop art; broken souvenirs; always already damaged toys; matter in excess of itself/surroundings; plastic personalities; amnesiac joy; dream fragments; plunderphonics; ruin narratives; fantasy destruction; languid ornamental mourning; shards; thingly galvanism; fortuitous object assemblages; making the best of a broken scenario; glaring reincarnations; savage/fragile; purity seen through dismantled tradition; ruin porn; obsolete mystique; rediscovery of wonder in lost objects; totalled art; ethics and value in waste culture; Lavender Town; dead malls; tarnished aesthetic; paint flakes; capitalist residues; tattered brands; lurid food matter; flowers reclaiming industrial space; ecotones; luminous cultural memorials; tacky plaques; strange idolatry; the performative norms of museum interaction; organic shards; the Romantic fragment poem in the 21st century; oil spills; the ethics and aesthetics of Insta filters in relation to waste; industrial swansong; nu-rave; post-capitalist elegia; contemporary takes on The Arcades Project; the semiotic potentiality of trash; materiality normativity; the ravages of climate; defamiliarised excreta; archaeological remainders; the politics of picturesque ruin; oscillation between foreground and background matter; the contemplative impulse; objects with elapsed categorical status.

The details: At this stage there are few restrictions on the work we are looking for. Feel free to email us at [email protected] or message our Facebook with further questions, or to pitch your ideas. In terms of word count, please keep below 1500 per piece if you want to be considered for the issue, or below 3000 for online. No poems longer than 100 lines, but please don’t hesitate to send us several poems whose collective line length exceeds this (be reasonable).
The deadline is 1st April, 2018.
Although each issue strives for a distinct aesthetic, to get a feel for our general format have a look at the previous two issues here:

Don’t hesitate to get in touch with more questions or general responses!
Peace & love,
Maria
