It always feels like death. At least at first. Your muscles stretch and burn until they might rip. Your fingers tremble as you try to hold them taut but graceful, just so. Your toes jam into a pretty pink box, battering your feet with constellations of blisters and bruises. But it all looks effortless and beautiful. Because that's all that really matters.

“Of course - definitely broke the bank, but you’re so worth it, babe,” Dex replied facetiously with a grin, thumb wiping away any stray beer from the side of his lip. “You lost her?” he asked with a quizzical look, unsure what exactly that meant but let it go as a nonissue since the blonde looked like she was still sitting comfortably in her seat - not on high alert. “Okay. Mind if I keep you company while you wait? Or while you don’t wait if that’s the case?”
Tumblr media
“Sabrina,” the blonde immediately corrected before bringing the glass to her lips for a sip. The idea of losing Cherry whenever she was dragged out for one of these so called girl nights wasn’t that uncommon for her, but she could see why he was puzzled by the statement. Sab allowed a small smile to creep on her lips as she met his gaze, pondering over the question at hand. “Sure, although as you may have noticed I’m probably not the most enjoyable company at a bar. In fact, I can actually guarantee it.”

Slow steps trudged through the pub’s exit and outside to the cool air as Cohen’s gaze traveled up to the orange sky above. Instead of lighting a fire under his ass, or in this case his brain, the approaching publishing deadline for his latest novel had rendered him totally blocked over the last 48 hours - so he opted to trade staring at the ceiling for drinking… heavily. His own mental exhaustion mixed with the copious amounts of alcohol he’d consumed made the speaker’s voice sound almost muffled, coaxing a grunted “hm?” right out of him as he shifted his attention. “Sorry - my low fuel light has been on for 20 miles,” he tapped his temple; his words tangling together as they slurred out. It was probably the delirium that caused an actual smile to tug at his lips due to his own nonsense; usually not even booze could do that. “I’m sorry - did you say something?”
Tumblr media
There was no denying it at this point, Sabrina was completely lost. She had gone around the same area a few times now, each one ending up in front of the same pub she had walked out of an hour before. Any stranger would’ve probably assumed the blonde was drunk off her mind, when in reality her phone was just dead and she was stuck in the middle of an unknown city. When the stranger first came into sight she quietly debated whether to speak up or not, until the fear of not making it to rehearsals tomorrow struck and she finally spoke up. “Of course,” Sab mumbled quietly when her question fell on deaf ears, this man was probably so drunk he couldn’t possibly tell her how to get to her hotel. “Rittenhouse Hotel, would you know how to get there?”

“Water,” he echoed, his head cocking to the side for a beat before he just nodded. “Oh..kay - a water and a Fat Tire - thanks, man,” Dex ordered, an intrigued smirk tugging at the corners of his lips as he faced the blonde. “Sorry if I interrupted,” he whispered, nodding to the phone in the woman’s hands before bringing the cold, frothy ale to his lips. “Waiting for someone or are you just here in protest of spirits?”
Tumblr media
“No, it’s okay. I was just...I wasn’t doing anything important,” she quickly responded, locking her phone and setting it down on the bar — the last thing she wanted was for him to see that she was really just checking her calendar. “Thank you for the water,” Sab added quietly, although the silence didn’t last long as a small giggle escaped her lips when he spoke again. “I wish it was the latter, but really I came to accompany a friend,” her eyes traveled across the bar trying to locate Cherry but of course there was no doubt the brunette was long gone by now. “I think I lost her though.”

It was supposed to be a spring cleaning, taking care of old files that didn’t need to reside in her office. Only she had pushed it back week by week until spring cleaning season was over, Marie Kondo left her mark and Ava still hadn’t moved a single piece of paper. So that morning she brought in a huge box and neatly stacked piles inside until it was full. Securing it with tape, she balanced it on her hip with a tight grip around it and walked out of the shelter towards her car. Only Philly wouldn’t be Philly if the parking situation wasn’t a disaster every single time. And so she walked the short distance down the sidewalk, making a quick pitstop at the coffee shop. One queue later, she managed to shimmy her way out of the store with a brewing coffee to-go in one hand and the heavy box still propped on her other side. Only that when she squeezed through the door, her belt loop got caught on the handle and as she took a step forward, she was forcefully yanked backward. Her back slammed into the wooden frame, the air leaving her lungs with a gasp as she held onto the box. However, the fresh coffee went flying and barely missed a pedestrian as it landed right in front of their feet. “Shoot, I’m so sorry! Are you okay? Did any of it get on you?” Ava turned her hip to unhook herself, trying to stand steady as her cheeks heated up, feeling utterly embarrassed.

Thirty minutes had nearly passed by and the blonde was certain she was going around in circles. The GPS on her phone kept insisting that the shop was straight ahead and to her right but all Sabrina could see, besides the cars passing by was more buildings. She sighed and took a deep breath before checking the address on the group text once more. It was right and she was still lost, frustration was clearly evident on the girl’s face now, she knew she’d have to ask one of the locals, which Sab always hated doing but it was the best way to avoid counting to walk around in vain for longer. The coffee shop ahead was the first thing to catch her eye, although the strong smell of the beverage always made her nauseous she knew an iced tea would probably calm her down and serve as a good excuse to ask someone for directions. It happened in just seconds, coffee spilled in front of her feet and a stranger now apologizing — Sabrina blinked twice and stepped back just enough to make sure none of the spilled drink got on her new slippers. “Oh, I’m fine. None of it got on me, don’t worry. Sorry about your coffee, do you need help getting that box somewhere?”

“Well, you signed a contract. The late cancellation fee is stated in bold. I can email you a copy if you want to see for yourself, but beyond that there’s nothing I can do,” Dex stated evenly into his phone, trying his best to hold his composure even though the dude was being a total twat. “Alright alright, listen,” he interrupted, putting a pause to the yelling and cussing on the other end of the phone as he slid onto the closest bar stool. “Invoice is due at the end of the month, bud. Later,” he huffed, ending the call and lifting two fingers to catch the bartender’s attention before turning his attention to the person next to him. “So glad I gave up first-shooting weddings - people can’t stay together long enough to actually make it to the altar anymore. What you drinkin’?”
Tumblr media
It wasn’t like she wanted to hear the other’s conversation, the coffee shop felt uncomfortably small as the stranger went on about contracts and late fees. Sab tried her best to look away, watch the screen of her phone and then her shoes, anything really that would show she wasn’t eavesdropping. That was until the man spoke up and she couldn’t possibly avoid his gaze any longer. “Chai latte,” the blonde quietly returned.

It’s really important to show women who are not just offshoots of men. I would love to keep playing roles that challenge stereotypes of women, that educate the audience a little bit.
