Blog #6
My writing on Tumblr does not have an audience necessarily. I am trying to write for myself for the most part. If I had to write something never to be seen by another eye, it would not be dissimilar to what my Tumblr posts are. However, in writing for class, I constantly focus on who my audience is and how relevant each sentence is for that audience. This is because of the purpose and formality that goes with each medium. A paper is to be taken seriously, and I can be found defining terms that my audience should know. However, on Tumblr, I ramble on with complex terms that probably not many people that view my posts understand. This is fine because I see my Tumblr posts as for me, asking me to evaluate my craft has a purpose of analyzing myself, for myself. Whereas a paper, especially one like the instruction set, requires me to create a product for others, not just one for myself that happens to be public. As a blog that is for me rather than for someone else, I find that is has absolutely been a good thing for me. I feel putting thought into what I do is going to accomplish my goal of improving, even if only slightly. Above all, I enjoyed it. Because it’s for my purposes, I would say enjoying something is a success.

Blog Post #5
In the game Super Smash Brothers Melee, play styles and personality come alive. With such a variety of choices, every player will have a certain flair that makes them distinctly different from other players. How someone personally views the game can affect how they wish to put their mark on their play. Personally I find that I am all about optimizing things, and honestly working on honing in my skills translates to work ethic and persistent effort. With a hunger to improve that is only satisfied with results, and enjoyment from observing the progress, creates a cycle of hard work to improvement to enjoyment that seems to never end. I believe this cycle can be put into nearly any field or subject. As humans, we are made to adapt, and with a mindset that values hard work and improvement and finds enjoyment out of this connection, everyone can grow towards their goals. If you can set goals you can achieve them. This has massive relevance in academics, sports, anything really. From simply trying to get good at a video game, I’ve been able to introduce functions of my life to a philosophy that can improve my worth as an individual.

A cool article on crowdfunding and its place in competitive smash. Recently tournaments have been generating tens of thousands of dollars through donation drive type things with rewards at money goals.

HTC (yes, the company that makes phones) is working on a series on ssbm! The first episode came out recently and is a really good look into the more human aspect of the top players, rather than just results and in game play.

One of the largest tournaments in the world was found to have been held by corrupt management, but is now introducing a new staff and looking to turn over a new leaf.

Another really awesome blog post by Wobbles about Mindfulness, which is very useful to improving as a player. Being mindful about your actions and mental state can help you avoid stagnating in skill level.
