WICCEDs
Image soon im lazy rn
WICCEDs (also known as Wickeds because they are "wicked hard" - Hopper Hadrian) stands for Wizardry Class Competency Examination Degrees. Yes, it is a load of nonsense, I just wanted the acronym.
There are three sets of WICCEDs. The first set of WICCEDs ("First Wickeds" or simply "Wickeds") includes the core classes minus physical education and the student's third year electives. Wickeds give you a sense of what subjects you're strong and weak in. It recommends what classes to add and what classes to drop for the next year and even recommends a few career paths for you to think about. You can't get that many jobs with only a First Wicked Degree, but it's fine because you're pretty much forced to stay at the school until Second Wickeds unless you drop out.
The second set of WICCEDs ("Second Wickeds" or "Villains") takes place in seventh year with all of the classes you didn't drop in sixth year and all the new classes you picked up in sixth year. Villains create a solid foundation for career paths and can get you far on their own. About 1/5 of students leave after seventh year because Villains can get you pretty far, but a few more years at school is very desirable, and most students are very thirsty for knowledge and better job opportunities.
Independent WICCEDs ("Mini Wickeds") take place for three classes: Becoming an Animagus, Apparition, and Occlumency. These Wickeds take place in the period of no classes between the first day of the month and the next Monday. If August begins on a Monday, students will have their Mini Wickeds the first weekend of the term. Mini Wickeds don't do much except show your knowledge of the subject you've just taken and they have no affect on job opportunities.
The third set of WICCEDs ("Third Wickeds" or "Evils") take place for your Extra Study courses and electives in your eleventh year. Evils determine what career path you can have. If you aren't pleased with what you got, you can't schedule a retake, but you have your Villains as a backup.

North American Newspapers
Original Image
Spilling The Tea with Joseph Gilstrap > Gossip newspaper that talks about suspected illegal relationships in the congress, unverified claims of relationships between Quidditch players and fans, etc. Gilstrap is an unregistered legilimens who creates entire articles about an unknown woman having relations with a famous Quidditch player because he heard her think about how attractive he was while walking by.
Affinis Times > A family-operated newspaper based out of the Affinis in San Francisco. It sits on the second floor of the cat cafe despite the owner, Mr. Hebblethwaite, is allergic to cats. Him and his family live with on the third floor. The newspaper talks about news relating to the magical congress, the Affinis, Kastrogeia, or any notable news in the magical world. It's a fairly bland and unbiased paper that doesn't do much more than tell it how it is, which many people appreciate.
Woolworth Post > Magical congress-operated newspaper that is under the authority of whichever President is in charge. The newspaper's views swing wildly as the Presidents come and go. It's largely seen as unreliable regarding any news about how good a new thing the congress is doing is going to be, but they get all the MACUSA news first, so people still buy the papers.
Sports America > Basically Quidditch Daily but it's all sports (Quodpot, Quidditch, Wizard's Archery, etc.), there is a news section in the front and a "What broom do I want for christmas but know my parents can't afford, but I'm still gonna circle it anyway?" section in the back.
Quidditch Daily > A Quidditch magazine. Who won the North American Quidditch Cup (NAQUC) this year? By how much? Where do I buy my own Quidditch supplies? What's the newest broom that I can't afford but I sure as hell want to stare at? Who won the Quidditch World Cup this year? By how much? Why did [insert team here]'s seeker get kicked off the team? What are the newest Quidditch rivalries? Well, all your questions and more can be answered here! Oh, they even have a small Quodpot section, that's so cute!
The Daily Hoot > The American equivalent of the Daily Prophet, except without being controlled by the magical congress. It has a section for anything and everything magic related. It is a progressive newspaper that openly advocates for new policies and the repealing of others.
Giggler > A newspaper that instead of having a comic section is just entirely comics. The newspaper is sent out daily (minus Sunday) and usually never fails to make people laugh, though it's suspected that's because it's enchanted to make the people who read it find it hilarious.
Nomaj parents can and often do (once they figure out how) send nomaj newspapers to their kids at Kastrogeia and Ilvermorny using the owls their kids send letters home with.
More soon!

Moody's Island, Texas
Original Image
Moody's Island, Texas, is a wealthy magical village with an estimated population of just over a thousand. It is one of the largest entirely magical communities in the U.S.
It became a meeting place for American Death Eaters in the First Wizarding War, though support for Voldemort waned in the second war, it became a target of attacks.
Students from all across the great plains travel to Moody's Island for school supplies.
Moody's Island was named after Milton Moody, a distant relative of Alastor Moody. It was founded in 1867 by abolitionist wizards and witches (notably Milton Moody) who wanted to create a safe place for African-American wizards following the war. To this day, 47% of the population is still African-American.
Residents of the town often enjoy near-nomaj lifestyles and if you didn't look for more than a second you would think it was a normal American town.
(Fun fact: Moody's Island is a real island in Texas which I stumbled upon on complete accident and just had to add it into this universe!!)

Students must choose two classes to major in, and three-four minors during these four years. Third WICCEDs will measure your competency with the class materials and determine what jobs you can and cannot get.
Sports
Quidditch 2-7y / 8-11y > In second-seventh years, houses play against each other with their own teams. In eighth-eleventh years, Quidditch teams become clubs that don't follow house boundaries and play against each other. There are four club Quidditch teams and six house quidditch teams. You can choose Quidditch to be a major or a minor, but if it's a minor it doesn't count towards the restrictions and you can still choose up to four other minors alongside it.
Quodpot 2-7 / 8-11y > Same thing as Quidditch
Archery and Wizard's Archery 2-11y > Tournaments take place against people in the same year as you. Archery is just nomaj archery (which, in America, is oddly popular in the magical world as a pass time), while wizard's archery includes moving and non-moving obstacles, moving targets, and requires you to use wandless magic to direct the arrow where you want it to go. Wizard's archery is very popular among students learning wandless magic in years 8-11. Wizard's Archery at Rynmoord has wand using and wandless tournaments in 2-7y and only wandless tournaments in 8-11y.
Broom Racing 2-11y > Tournaments take place against people in the same year as you. Basically track on a broom. There are different distances and sometimes obstacles (like hurdles but its rings you have to fly through).
Dueling 8-11y > Dueling, while being a class taught sixth year and up, is also a sport. Unlike the class, which is supposed to prepare you for situations where you'll need to defend yourself, the dueling sport is meant to play as a sport and for entertainment. It's also seen as a way to put your Dueling class and DADA knowledge into practice without the pressure of WICCEDs grades.
Capture the Snitches 2-11y > Using the golden snitch from Quidditch, nomaj-born and nomaj-raised students at Rynmoord have turned the game into a capture the flag type game. Each team typically has 3-5 players on it. There are five snitches on the field at all times, and the goal is to get all five snitches and hold them while you fly though a hoop on your side of the field. The snitch will close itself up and be counted towards that team's score. The first team to get three snitches automatically wins. Most students typically find this sport quite boring unless both teams have two snitches, then they suddenly find it interesting. It's played on club teams, six being in 2-7y and four being in 8-11y clubs. Turnout isn't that great and it isn't played often outside of school grounds. Small local teams pop up around medium-large cities and play against each other and a small family-owned magazine for the sport is published weekly.

Sorting Ceremony
Original Photo
The sorting ceremony takes place before the first day of term lunch feast.
In the sorting ceremony, a student goes to the center of the dining hall while the sun is high in the sky. All of the fires go out and the room is only full of natural light.
Once the room has decided the student's house (which can take anywhere from a second to 10+ minutes), all of the large windows surrounding the dining hall will turn a color that represents one of the six houses.
If the room cannot find a house that suits the student the best, it will turn brown and they will be given the option to choose which house you want to be placed. The moment they make a decision in their head, the windows change to the color representing the house they chose.
Once the student is placed into the house, they are showed a grouping of tables which is assigned to the house (only during the sorting ceremony and feasts) and their uniforms they bought or were given at the start of term are transfigured on their own to be colored their house's color.

Wand Selection Ceremony
Original Photo
The wand selection ceremony takes place in the Wand Room immediately after the sorting ceremony ends and the day's lunch feast is over. The Wand Room is a smaller room with several bookshelves full of wands that were created in the castle's wand making room in the basements.
This first day, while eventful for first years (getting sorted and getting wands) is relatively bland for second-seventh years while the first years get settled in.
Elves are hired to create and distribute the wands during the wand ceremony. They also stay year-round so students who break their wands can find a new one.
Like always, the wand chooses the wizard, and students are instructed to cast a simple spell to see if the wand has chosen that witch or wizard.
On average, it takes about 2-4 wands before a student finds the wand that chose them, because the elves are knowledgeable about which wands tend to choose which wizards and witches.
Wand cores at Rymoord include (from most to least common): thunderbird tail feathers, doxy hair, snallygaster heartstrings, phoenix feathers, and ashwinder fangs.
