“ ... but as to what I want... I wish I knew. If they stayed the same, then it would be unfulfilling; if they changed, there’s no telling what direction they may take. And to go back to before... depending on your definition of before, that isn’t much better. ”

Malinovka (full name: malinová limonáda) is a bubbly drink that was extremely popular during communist era and in the past years has been celebrating a huge come-back in the Czech Republic. And what is so special about drafted raspberry lemonade? For many people it’s a great source of childhood nostalgia, others simply love it because of its taste and relatively cheap price. The Czech soft drinks company Kolín produces about 1500 barrels of malinovka daily and during hot summer days it’s a popular refreshment in many pubs, outdoor swimming pools and lakes.

Rosa Bohemiae // Rose of Bohemia 

 One of the most interesting maps of Bohemian region is this one: in a form of a rose with Prague in the center. It was originally created by Silesian cartographer Kristián Vetter specifically for the book Epitome historica Rerum Bohemicarum by notable baroque writer, historian and catholic priest Bohuslav Balbín, in 1668. It is one of the maps which were deliberately created as an art rather than an accurate representations of geography. 

The stem of the rose grows out of Vienna to signify the connection between Bohemia and the Habsburg capital, the leaves represent lands surrounding Bohemia. The Latin inscription at the top “Institutia et Pietate” (meaning “With Justice and Piousness”) is the motto of Emperor Leopold I. Below the list of the disctricts there is also an inscription: “Bohamiae rosa omnibus saeculis cruenta, in qua plura Guam 80. magna proelia comissa sunt, nunc primum hac forma excusa.” This translates as: “The Rose of Bohemia, bloodied for all centuries, where more than 80 great battles took place. Now for the first time in such a way created.”
