The Flat Nines is always bringing the vibe to NE every Sunday. Tommy on guitar and vocals makes for a great stage lead. An acquaintance of mine Paul Paresa was sitting on keys. Chris Higgins was keeping the groove while Todd Bishop kept it tight on the skins. Vocalist Debra Patton did 3 numbers with them.

June 4th in Portland Oregon would see the alt right and many who claim left ideologies along with left militants converge on the city center. There have been many protest in the downtown area since the inauguration. The counter protesters outnumbered the alt right almost 5 to 1. I joined the alt right to find out if they really would speak on the issues that they were so up in arms about. My background as a naturalized citizen helped me gain a quick respect among the gatherers. Story swapping of religious upbringing and confusion at the state of government gave me a free pass to walk around the same people that would spit in my face if they knew where my loyalties lie. Patriotic sing-alongs, immigrant rhetoric, and a confounding sense of brotherhood shielded me from the antifa bottles being thrown. Portland police decided then to escalate the situation by antagonizing the counter demonstrators with chemical agents and non-lethal weaponry. Many of those that faced the sting of state retaliation were just there only to hold signs. Those that consider themselves militants were ready to stand up and protect those trying to flee the assault. After about a 25 minute standoff many of the counter demonstrators marched downtown. They were met with the police kettle and were forced to show IDs before leaving the area. The final count was well over 250 and now we will wait to see what Portland does to stand against hate.

Ealdor Bealu is from just across the state line in Boise, Idaho. They are doing a circuit of the NW and St John’s Fixin To was host to a mid week show. Bringing the post rock ambient doom riffs this was a great energizer for hump day. Make sure to check out the debut album Dark Water At The Foot Of The Mountain. https://ealdorbealu.bandcamp.com/releases
