Neighbor x Player is just so awesome.

Player is actually back in the error world (HN fourth wall breaking plot). That is possibly not Nicky (the guy from across the street who got dragged into the plot by accident only), that is the Player who the Neighbor asks for help.

it gives a frame for the whole game journey. The whole development struggle.

Player was gone after alpha 1, then the character started having a role and a story(neighbor’s son, then Nicky). Until then, he was the player (who plays the game)

and it’s back in the error world, as said. He has a special relationship with the neighbor. They are vice versa stalking and chasing each other, and yet they don’t hate each other. If you followed the whole development, you know why the two of you are there. You know why Neighbor is saying what he is saying, throughout the game, with the hidden codes. He wants to escape, he wants it to end.

and he asks the only person who has been with him all along, throughout the storylines, throughout the journey. I love those two.

here's some headcanons about the Nickterson duo (Theodore should be first but...it does not sound good that way)

about Nickterson.

Nickterson is the duo name of Theodore and Nicky from the final HN storyline (og HN game, all my homies ignore the cartoon). just like Smentin/disaster duo, it isn't explicitly a ship name. rather just duo name, which could also be ship if one wants it(error world, and act 3 makes it possible I guess). I'd call them the "golden duo" but then I'd lure Harry Potter fans or smth🥲

but it's very important to know that Nickterson is only about the two adults, so it's past act 3 (with hn3, it'd have chance to happen) and mentioned error world (where Nicky can save Neighbor). Nicky turns 32 and Theodore is...47+ ig.

it's separated from Neighbor x Player, which is the shipname of Neighbor and Player from the Faust storyline. they're different characters, dot.

why do they have a name suddenly?

because they're a great duo with awesome possibilities and dynamics even in canon and it's just staying in the shadows, since the part where they clear up misunderstandings isn't canonically in the game, we just suddenly cit to Nicky helping Theodore in error world. also, FUCK HATERS.

with that in knowledge, let's progress.

the headcanons.

🔹 Theodore eventually tells Nicky that they're in a game and the dude has a hard time with coping, but he believes it.

🔸 they're both inventors. as soon as this fact comes to the surface, they'll start inventing together, and talking about this stuff through whole nights. they're unstoppable.

🔹 Nicky has huge empathy about Theodore now that he knows the truth, but he has hard time saying it with words.

🔸 they're both introverted and Theo has a hard time communicating, even though they agree on that they must clearly tell if something's wrong. this results arguments, but Nicky is chill in canon too, so he is forgiving and caring.

🔹 Nicky is gay, Theodore is bisexual. I'm not changing this.

🔸 neither of them can cook, so they'll end up ordering. they also discover that they love the same chinese food.

🔹 they rely on each other very much, since they don't really have anyone else

🔸 Theodore early on discovers Nicky's genius and treats him by that. Nicky is really happy that he's treated with respect and care.

🔹 Nicky hates the gloves.

🔸 Theodore calls him by his middle name (Michael) because it's special and noone else uses it in talks. Nicky takes it naturally (in other cases he'd be disturbed)

can we talk about the Players in HN and how they were killed off ?

prealpha player (the one we ship neighbor with ahem) - was replaced by the neighbor’s son player

neighbor’s son player - was replaced by Nicky Roth

Nicky Roth - he isn’t relevant in hn2, he is turned into an insane psycho in the cartoon.

Ike (probably HGP player) - gets killed off in the foreword of a fucking book. only existed to die. HGP player became HG Quentin. Ike evaporates from the lore entirely, never to be mentioned again.

HG Quentin - already has the “placeholder” name in the files. Literally ends up in the ground, replaced by Journalist Quentin

journalist Quentin - gets scrapped with hn2 altogether, his story left on a cliffhanger, barely anything is known about him.

Norman Darby - supposedly a prototype / alternate version of journalist Quentin. We never saw him after book 6, evaporated from the story completely.
