Las week I had the chance to attend Femmes De Chanson’s Spring Concert at the Memorial Chapel. Femmes De Chanson is a acappella group here on campus. Their performance was absolutely breath taking. The performance was nicely organized and the music was cleanly sung. The way their voices filled the chapel moved the entire audience. I had wonderful time and gained an appreciation for the multitude of talent here at UMD. I would highly recommend this performance to others.

Last week, I had the chance to attend the screening of Whiskey Tango Foxtrot in Hoff Theater. I enjoyed the movie greatly, especially since I favor comedy films. This film took place in Afghanistan and centered around the main character, who was a TV producer. Also, Tina Fey is pretty funny, so I enjoyed a few bits of laughter. Nonetheless, my viewing of this film allowed me to grow an appreciation for the amount of worked required to producing.

This was performance was very inspiring because it tackled everyday societal issues and moved the entire audience. In fact, I am very honored to have had the opportunity to hear this piece.

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend to participate in Alpha phi Alpha’s Stroll Like An Alpha Contest. This experience was fun and liberating. Essentially, I was in a group with 11 other girls and we learned some dance movements and the steps/strolls of the fraternity in question. On the day of competition we competed among 4 other teams and placed 2nd. This experience the culture present within the first African American, inter-collegiate Greek-lettered fraternity.

This past Saturday, I had the opportunity to explore campus and participate in the different activities available during Maryland. Walking around I stumbled across the UMD’s Step Team performance by STAMP. It was a great performance that was very captivating and powerful. Within the audience, many felt the rumbling of the stage after every stomp.

Tumblr Prompt
Question: What connections did you see between your project and the projects of those in your small group? What was the most helpful piece of feedback (or support) that you received? How will this help you proceed with your project?
Response: Primarily, I felt that this assignment was very eye opening. It allowed me witness that everyone is working at their own pace, and their is no need to compare the progress of your own capstone to the progress of a peer’s capstone. However, even though we have reached different stages of our capstone we all connect in terms seeking feedback and reassurance that the right choices are made. I noticed the phrases similar to “ I’m not sure if” or “I think I might want to.” Furthermore, another connection I notice between projects is the excitement and sense of being proud students have conveyed constantly throughout many reflections.
This assignment allowed me to gain much useful feedback. Most of the feedback was very positive and centered around their linking of the visually progress I have made so far. However, the feedback that stuck out most to me was Alanna when she asked “ Will you include words or quotes in the video that symbolize your thoughts/feelings throughout the process of going through this experience?” This question was very useful to me becasue it allowed me to realize that views might not necessarily feel the emotions I experienced when I shadow specific dance groups. So, as a result I intend to actually use Alanna’s advice, which will allow my capstone to have a stronger impact.

I am really interested in the thought behind your project. Essentially, I like how you are tying childhood trauma, hypnosis, and other genres into your project. As a viewer, I can see that you have really thought deeply into this concept and it is much appreciated by the audience. My only suggestion might be to explain the concept of WHO and DID because I was a bit confused on what these words symbolized, and what role they played in your project. I do have a few questions. How do you plan to present your capstone at Arts Fest? What inspired your capstone?
Process Binder
I’ve been thinking about how to represent general aspects of DID as well. I’ve already included pieces of songs that symbolize causes of DID, such as childhood trauma. However, I’m also thinking about representing treatments of DID, such as hypnosis & psychotherapy. The problem is that I don’t want Who? to have too much involved & seem chaotic, but I also want to focus on the overall topic of DID, not just an individual person. So I guess that I’ll to figure out a happy medium of how much I want to represent of the symptoms & such of DID. I’ve also been toying with the idea of including a specific line that plays on the fact that people who are unaware sometimes believe DID is similar to schizophrenia. But I don’t want to confuse that line as a confirmation that DID is similar to schizophrenia. So if I decide to use it, I’ll have to make it clear that it is a contradiction.

I am fascinated with the overall idea of the miniature house, and can’t wait to see it in person during Arts Fest. So far, I can see a lot of detail has gone into the construction of the house and it looks really good I can tell that this project requires an artistic hand that use to working with such material. At this point I believe everything looks great and I do not have any suggestions. I do have a few questions. How many floors are do you intend to have in your tiny house? Are you going to paint the house or leave it at its current state?

Wow! It is great to hear that you have essentially finished your project over spring break. I like how even though you have finished your project, you are still going through and tweaking sections that can still be adjusted.I believe this action will improve your project and the overall impact. My only suggestion would be that you define some of the terminology you use during Arts Fest for those unfamiliar with music terminology. For instance, I googled fugue since I did not know what it was initially. Lastly, how do you intend to present your project at Arts Fest?

It is exciting to hear that your project is moving together at a timely manner and has lead you to completing choreography, filming, and editing. I love the spinet of the video displayed and how I could here the words in the background that inspired your movement, costume, and etc. It looks like a lot of thought went to the creation of the movement, I can’t wait to see the overall product at Arts Fest. My only question is how did you decide what pace you wanted to read the story. For instance, currently it is a moderate pace rather than a fast or slow pace.

This is a video taken from my capstone project!!!! I am so excited to announce that I completed choreographing, filming, and putting together the video for my project!!!!!! This section of the video is the motif of the story book - the phrase that continues to repeat continuously.

Even though Tumblr wouldn’t let you post the whole clip, I found the section of you struggling with the microphone to be very funny. In addition, I feel that you performing at coffee house is a wonderful way for you to grow as a comedian and feel out your jokes and being received as you want them to. All in all, based on the few seconds I witnessed I believe your doing a wonderful job. My first question is how do you intend to present this at Art Fest. While, my second question is do you have a specific piece you are working on for Arts Fest.

This is me taking the stage for my coffeehouse set. Tumblr wouldn’t let me put the whole clip so I just trimmed so you could see me struggling with a mic stand. Working with sound elements is very hard in my line of work.

The name of this song if First of All by Olamide, who is a West African artist. While editing this video I decided I wanted to play music from the cultural team background that is not necessarily the music they are dancing to. This song will essentially be tied with the dance group Afrochique, in which this will be playing in the background during their potion.

Submission #2
Caption 1: This photo shows a glimpse into the editing process at the moment. Essentially, I have been working on editing the footage I have from the two teams I have shadowed so far, and incorporated music in the background.
Caption #2: This is my current rough draft of my showcase poster. Primarily, I followed the theme of having the picture of cultural groups being the only source of color. Due to the sense of joy and confidence expressed in their movements.
