New Collectivity - Reuse of Modernist Buildings
From a research on collective elements from the modern movement, a new concept was created. Now that collectivity is clustered, the predominantly individual building gains a clearly collective appearance, without overshadowing the individuality of the inhabitants. This New Collectivity creates an attractive and legible facade with respect for the building and its residents.

Tiny House Boat
In Western Europa the Tiny House movement keeps growing. What are the reasons to live in a Tiny House and how can we make sure such a small house doesn’t loose quality?
During my semester abroad at the Akademie Mode & Design in Hamburg I designed a Tiny House Boat, in an international student team. This Tiny House Boat is perfect for people who love to travel, but have trouble feeling homesick. The interior is designed in a spatially strategic manner. The more private functions, such as the bathroom and bedroom, are situated in the enclosed back part of the boat. While the kitchen and living room are bathing in light and have an optimal relation with the water. Furthermore, the boat is completely energy independent and consists of reused materials.
To communicate the concept of this Tiny House Boat I made a set of postcards that provide more visual and verbal information.

Onder Ons (Among Us)
Re-purposing the heritage site of a former monastery into a library. Verticality divides and unites horizontality: with respect to the value and the narrative of the existing building, a staircase and a vide are integrated to create a connection between the different functions and levels in the library. The contrast between the existing and the executed intervention remains manifestly visible. Stimulating the regional development and economy is the main purpose of this project. Wandering through the building, visitors can discover all the local particularities, such as breweries, bakeries, artists and musicians.

Introvert
Introverted means that what takes place inside is not readable on the outside. The contrast between these two elements is the starting point of this concept. Because of systhematical deepenings, with dimensions based on the Fibonacci Sequence, the activities are barely visible for an outsider. The functions are arranged by level of intimacy, with the most intimate function placed central and lowest. Enfolded by walls of bamboo shelves, the users can control their privacy level by using more or less of the storage. Comfort is provided by relaxing zones padded with Kvadrat. The deep orange color compared to the concrete surrounding translates the contrast between the inside and the outside of an introvert.

The Sudoku House
All decisions are made to improve two important aspects, daylight and family life. Trough a partially transparent southern facade and milk glass interior walls the daylight can easily enter and diffuse in the spaces. Because of the open stairwell the light can reach deep into the house. The open character and the usage of sliding walls facilitates social contact within the family. Furthermore the fresh tinges, glass and oak-wooden floors fits the energy of the dynamic life of a young family. To bring everything logically together the house devided into a grid of nine squares in which all the functions fall into place, like the digits in a sudoku puzzle.

Blox
Blox is a modular storagewall which can be adapted to any particular situation and enables the user to control the arrangement of space. The storagewall is made up of hollow polystyrene blocks that can be placed anywhere desirable in the room to serve as pieces of furniture. Room deviders can be used to deprive the storagewall of sight or be used as secretion for more privacy. Some surfaces are covered with felt to provide comfort wherever needed. The sheets of felt are attached to the polystyreen with Velcro, thereby makes it possible to disconnect and replace if necessary. The room is no langer a stationary surrounding, but becomes an interactive environment between man and object.

Orbis
This light installation is completely based on the concept ‘rest’. In an oval-shaped space, behind a wall, moving armatures are placed. This creates indirect and diffuse light, that varies in illumination. The softer and stronger light imitates the setting of the sun. This light effect reaches deep into the space, due to the curved outer walls. Visitors can experience this spectacle in a slightly lying position, leaning their backs against a translucent and textured fabric. Visitors can become a part of this calm and serene atmosphere.

La Retraite
Where better to relax than surrounded by the tranquility of nature? La Retraite is located in the dunes. It is a space where the mind and body can fully relax in a slightly laid back position. The rhythmic construction of the ergonomical lines are visible on the outside, but the user has total privacy. The weaved plywood boards are attached by dowels which makes the object collapsable. Because of the funnel shape the view is framed like a painting so the user can completely experience the peace of nature.

Panamarenko
Mobile living and working space, designed for Belgian artist Panamarenko. Just as his artwork this design gives the illusion that it is ready to fold up its undercarriage and fly away. There is a sensible tension between wanting to fly, but not being able to.
