Things to Know Before Buying a 3-Phase Transformer
Before buying a transformer, there are some prerequisites you must adhere to for the long lasting performance of the equipment.
Be accurately ready with the following:
Primary voltage (generally influenced by utility)
Secondary voltage
Load capacity: You must know the highest amount of load that you can expect at any given time. To determine the same, multiply the load current (in amperes) by the load voltage. For example, if load is 100 amperes and voltage is 300 volts, you require a transformer with a power capacity of 30 kVA (100×300 VA). While buying a 3-phase transformer, always select a transformer with a load larger than the calculated one (20% generally and adding any planned additional load). This is to ensure safety and leave scope any future expansion.
Power factor or Efficiency: In AC circuits, the power factor is the ratio of the real power that is used to do work and the apparent power that is supplied to the circuit.
Space required
Accessories & instrumentation
Whether indoor or outdoor mounted
Basic impulse level (using design tests)
Seismic requirement (or response of the equipment to earthquake and such other calamities)
Impedance (the effective resistance of an electric circuit or component to alternating current)
For any assistance required, don’t look around. Call our experts at 0141 239 6550, 239 6543 right away or mail your queries at [email protected].

How Sine Wave Inverter is Better than Square Wave Inverter
An inverter takes direct current and converts it into alternating current “household” power for running electronic equipment and appliances. There are many factors that go into selecting the best inverter for your application, one of them is knowing the difference and type of inverters available in the market.
Inverters are primarily classified on the basis of their output characteristics. There are three different types of outputs we get from inverters, hence they are classified into three primary classes, which are as follows:
The Square Wave inverter
A Pure sine wave inverter
The Modified Sine wave inverter or quasi sine wave inverter
Here, we will understand how sine wave inverters are different and better than square wave inverters.
A square wave inverter is one of the simplest inverter types, it converts straight direct current signal to a phase shifting alternate current signal. However, the output is not pure AC, like that of a pure sine wave, but it is a square wave. Square wave inverters are old-fashioned and the cheapest to make, but the hardest to use. They are not very efficient because the square wave has a lot of power in higher harmonics that cannot be used by many appliances.
On the other hand, in a sine wave inverter, voltage rises and falls smoothly. The electrical circuit of a pure sine wave inverter is far more complex than a square wave or modified sine wave inverter. Appliances, such as motors and microwave ovens will only produce full output with sine wave power. One major advantage of a sine wave inverter is that all of the equipments which are sold in the market today are designed for sine wave. A pure sine wave inverter has several other advantages as follows:
Sine wave inverters consume less power and therefore more efficient
According to personal power requirements, they can be modified and adjusted, since there are several types available with different power outputs
The output of a pure sine wave inverter is reliable
They are best used for sensitive equipments
Many main electronic equipments depend on inverters making it a small essential electronic device by itself. For more information regarding types of inverters you can reach out to us and we will have our experts guide you with the same. Write to us at [email protected] or call us at 0141- 239 6550, 239 6543

Difference Between Step-Up And Step-Down Transformers
A transformer is needed to change the voltage of power supply to meet the needs of specific appliances or machines. What most people are unaware of is that there are two types of transformers, the step-down and step-up transformers. The difference between these two is tricky, but necessary to understand. Wrong usage of either transformers might affect the efficiency and destroy the appliance.
Step-down transformers are designed to reduce electrical voltage, thus, decreasing voltage. Using a step-down transformer actually means that the voltage has been “stepped down” or reduced, in other words this type of transformer is meant for appliances that need low voltage supply.
For example, our power circuit carries 230-110v, but the doorbell requires only 16v. So, a step-down transformer should be used to reduce the voltage from 110v or 220v to 16v.
Step-up Transformers, on the other hand is used when the secondary voltage is greater than the primary voltage. It has more wire turns in the secondary. The appliance that uses more voltage requires this type of a transformer. The voltage has been “stepped up” by this transformer or increased, which means appliances that need higher voltage use this kind of a transformer.
In India, power is generated at 11kv. For economical reasons, a.c.power is transmitted at very high voltages (220v-440v) over long distances. Therefore step-up transformers are applied generating stations.
It is better not to be confused between the two but to know the use of each transformer. Depending on the power an appliance uses we can choose to purchase a transformer. High current supply and low current supply is always mentioned on the appliance, so it is best to check before taking a decision.
For more information regarding high voltage (step up) and low voltage (step down) transformers you can reach out to us and have our experts guide you with the same.
