THIRD AND FINAL SHOOT CONTACT SHEETS
For my final shoot for my images, I tried to put in to practice everything id taken in to account from my research as well from my own style. with these final images I wanted to get a much closer up perspective to focus in on the models face as I hadn’t gotten any shots like that in my previous shoots. With the conclusion of my final shoot I need to do any edits to my images before presenting them in my magazine spread.

Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott have collaborated as a photography duo for over 25 years, and in that time have become one of the most distinctive and powerful forces in the fashion industry. Having met in 1994 in London, Mert and Marcus quickly forged a working relationship, with their first shoot together ending up on the cover of Dazed & Confused magazine.
Since then, they have gone on to create some of the most iconic imagery of the last two decades. Their work is marked by an incredible use of often hyperreal colour and light, and has been featured in many of the world’s leading publications, including the American, French, Italian, and British editions of Vogue, W, Document Journal, Self Service, Interview, LOVE, Vanity Fair and Print Publication among others.
They have directed music videos for Madonna and Nicki Minaj, and have shot advertising campaigns for many leading luxury brands, including Christian Dior, Calvin Klein, Gucci, Miu Miu, Versace, Lancome, Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton.
For seven consecutive years, Mert and Marcus shot and directed the Givenchy campaigns under the creative direction of Riccardo Tisci. Signifying their creative influence on the storied house during its transformation into a global megabrand.
Mert and Marcus published their first book in 2017 with Taschen, and their work is featured in many public and private art collections around the world.
I really like this work a lot. I love how they put the men in the first image in feminine clothes. that photo in a series relate to my own work which i find great interest in. I also really enjoy the close up image of the womans face. I love the details cross her cheeks and her eyes which stand out from the image immensely. I will try these type of photographic techniques in my third and final photoshoot for my fashion spread.

Contact Sheets Shoot Two
For this photoshoot I stuck with what i was saying and did a wider range of shots as well as making the model have more variation in the way they carried themselves to let me photograph them. I tried 3 different locations for this shoot with the first and last working out best as they were both outdoors. I felt like the indoors shots were too plain and I didn’t like them as much as the others. Again in this shoot, the greenery from outside make the model stand out in his red sweater that was thrifted from Action Cancer on the lisburn road. the model here was wearing a broken bum bag as well as old ripped military style combat trousers and boots. Compared to the last look I think I prefer this look more however I do like both.

Drew Vickers
Based in New York, photographer Drew Vickers’ images reflect a range of human emotions. Among his work, striking black and white portraits documenting cultural case studies can be seen, beautifully placed alongside delicate still life images of flora and fauna.
His refined style and diverse imagery have received significant attention across the fine art photography and fashion industries. In 2018, Drew’s work was included in Red Hook Labs’ prestigious ‘Labs New Artists’ exhibition, which was covered by the British Journal of Photography.
In addition to his editorial work for publications including i-D, M Le Monde and Holiday Magazine, Vickers’ commercial portfolio includes Calvin Klein and Louis Vuitton. Most recently his Prada Resort campaign demonstrates his soft and intimate photographic style.
I really like Vickers images as they are striking in their appearance. His images in i-D magazine are not like typical fashion photography which intrigues me to the point where he has inspired some of my own work. I like that he uses a mix of black and white and colour in his work, even in a collection of images for one project.
His work in i-D magazine shows his models wearing shirts that make a statement, such as ‘equal taxes? equal rights!’ and ‘Greenpeace’. I like that the fashion in his images as well, slthough these models are not styled by him, draw the viewer in to read them.

Shoot One Contact Sheets
For my first shoot I used my refurbished clothes and dressed my model in a simple long sleeved layered top, some refurbished ripped jeans which I ripped myself, as well as some boots and jewellery which was second hand, found in a Cancer Research shop in Lisburn. These were the images I look during this shoot.
I really liked this shoot as I though the Red on the outfit contrasted really well against the green of the plants around the model in the frame. I also really liked that I was able to use a male model and not female. The model has slight makeup on; foundation, red eye shadow and some lip gloss.
For my next shoot I want to try and change the location of these images and maybe switch up and direct the model into different positions for more variation.

Refurbishing old clothes
Again I found all of these items in a second hand shop. I used one of the arms off the hoodie in the previous post and sewed it on to this large oversized top. from here i paired the top with a sweater which was sewn in from the inside to give a nice warm layered affect.
I really enjoyed this part of the process for all of my items as I like to do this with my own clothes for myself for everyday wear. Not all editing is shown of the clothing items however they will be seen in the final images I choose.
ALL ITEMS USED FOR EACH SHOOT ARE SECOND HAND

Refurbishing new clothes
As I stated, I wanted to use second hand or vintage clothes in my shoots. My process for gathering clothes was finding items to pair together to either leave as they were or refurbish them by resewing or 'editing' then almost so they looked slightly different from the original.
For this hoodie and jumper, I ripped up the jumper and decided to attach the hood from the old jacket to the completed top. Both of these items were found in a thift shop in Belfast.
The final product showed a comfy cropped hooded jumper. I really liked the outcome of this top but whether or not I will use it in one of my shoots is still being questioned.

i-D Magazine NO.357 The Post Truth Truth Issue
Knowing that I want to create modern contemporary street style outfits for my project, I looked at a popular magazine; i-D no.357, and found a lot of inspiration inside. A lot of the work contain inside the magazine is very street style and wearable apart from a few outliers, however I really enjoyed looking at the different photographers work as well as learning the style for fashion photography and how it looks in an actual fashion magazine. I noticed how each set of images by a certain photographer came with the photographers name, the model, the makeup artists and the individual who created the looks for the shoot, shown somewhere near the final product images that were shown in the magazine.
Particular favourites from this issue were;
- Charles and Keith; Straight Up - Photography by Thurstan Redding - Styling by  Bojana Kozarevic
- Tierra Whack - Photography by Alina Negoita - Styling by Ruben Moreira
- Underground - Photography by Josh Olins - Styling by Max Clark
These three shots stand out to me as they relate more to the type of style that i want to go for. They’re different than the norm which excite me and make me more interested in them than some of the more normal looking shoots. They also dot show high end clothing and the shoots aren’t over complicated.

Action Taken
After Going through and researching these three job options; Commercial, Portraiture, and wedding photography, as well as researching networking and job opportunities and fields where i can advertise myself I managed to get myself a paid job taking stills on the set of a BBC Short film.
To do this, I uploaded my work to an online portfolio HERE and advertised my job skills on Gumtree and Facebook, as well as emailing as many people as I could for any job opportunity that was going.
The director of the BBC Two Minute Masterpiece short film got back in touch with me and offered me a short, paid job over the span of two days; 2nd of December 2019 and the 4th December 2019.
for the job I brought my own camera, lenses, tripod and light-meter as lights were provided on set. I got to talk to a lot of the crew  including the producer, cinematographer, and makeup artist which was great for networking opportunities.
My name will be shown on the ed credits of the film and i am extremely happy to have had this opportunity and get my name out there.

Fashion project Ideas
Seeing as I know know I want to do the fashion option, and I have made my mood-board that I want to base my work off, I wanted to come up with a concept for my outfits that I will create.
As i’m making my own outfits and i’m not working with a fashion student to collaborate on this project, I enjoy the idea that I get to take control of the full project and concept. Although i know that it would more than likely be more beneficial to myself to network and work with a fashion student, I want to take control and work with another interest that I have which is fashion.
For my fashion concept I know I want to reuse old clothes, either vintage or not. It is very popular at the minute for people to go thrifting and I know I want to take thrifted clothes and change them to suit my style or pair them with other pieces to make a complete outfit. I also know that I want each outfit to be comfortable, unisex, and the type of clothes that you could wear out to a club but also out to coffee, almost a universal outfit that work for each occasion. This collection will be an autumn collection and will focus on the colour scheme of red, black, white and grey.

Networking
What can I do as a student to network?
What is networking?
‘ The action or process of interacting with others to exchange information and develop professional or social contacts.’
                                                                                     - Oxford Dictionary
For a student, networking is very important as we are at that stage where we are thinking about what we want to do when we leave uni. It is always important for post graduate students to have a backup of people they can call on for help in different fields, such as fashion students for possible fashion editorial work or graphic designers. Networking can greatly speed up an individuals career development and help them further their advances into the field they are wanting to work in. It will allow people to recognise your name out of a list, or have your name favoured over others for a job opportunity.
Individuals can network by either contacting people over their social media, attending networking events, or in my situation where I am still in university, talk to people from the different departments.

Promotion
When an individual is starting out as a photographer, it is hard to get an audience and a client base as not many people will know your work. Personally I think the best thing to do to begin with is to create an online portfolio. This will allow people from all over the world to look at your work and get a general idea of the work you create. Secondly, I think it is important to set up a professional social media account such as Facebook or Instagram, where people can easily contact you as well as look at your work.
A photographer can also advertise their work on sites such as Facebook or even on Gumtree where many people look for people to hire for certain jobs. Photographers will also promote themselves with taking some free work. This will allow them to put their name to something and get the benefit of using their material in their portfolio however they wont be paid which is a downfall.
Photographers can also promote themselves through networking events. They can get their names out there to a lot of people in the industry, as well as others in the artistic field in case they need any photographic work done in the future.
Here is a link to my own online portfolio. I have been working this portfolio for a long time since i began my photographic journey and I like displaying them with my newer most recent images.

Legal Issues
When working in photography there are a number of issues that can arise. For example, copyright issues when using archived or appropriated images. As well as this, issues may rise if you take photographs of people on the streets. People can get very defensive when their picture is being taken. This can be the same with public and private property. to shoot in front of a building or inside a building the photographer must have permission before they can go ahead and shoot, risking legal trouble if they don’t.
Photographers may also get into legal issues regarding people stealing their images. Photographers tend to upload their work to an online portfolio or on to social media for the public to view and clients to look at. however, this can lead to people believing that since it is on the internet it is free to use for themselves which is not the case as many photographs are covered by copyright.
It is important to look up legal information before you start work to ensure you are working correctly and under the law.
