RP Partnership is a Give and Take
While there are all sorts of little tips and thoughts you can keep in mind, it all boils down to one thing.
Giving back.
In the end, that's what will make your RP partner feel appreciated and that goes a long way to keeping a long, healthy partnership.
More often than not, partnerships end because one or both people involved didn't feel appreciated.

How To Be a Good RP Partner
Do:
Respect the fact that your RP partner has a life outside of RP. Work, family, friends, children, medical issues, school, or even just other hobbies/TV shows/other games. Respect any of it. If you don’t, they’ll likely become stressed, annoyed, or burnt out.
Show that you appreciate them. You can do this by: sending them messages, expressing your excitement about your story with them, share ideas with them, or even just flat out tell them.
Respect their boundaries. Some people don’t like to discuss OOC things with their RP partners. This doesn’t mean they don’t like you as a person or that they don’t want to be friends within the RP world. They just might be a private person.
Send them prompts/memes/asks that they reblog. It shows that you’re invested in the story and learning more about their character and it helps keep the RP going even in little ways. Just because you RP with them regularly doesn’t mean you can’t send them things on tumblr.
Communicate! This is something that we see talked about a lot but it’s surprising how often it isn’t really done. If you have a problem with how something is going, tell them. If you feel like something is wrong, ask them! It doesn’t do either person any good if things aren’t talked about.
If your partner comes to you with something they feel is wrong or they have a question, ect. Be honest!
Don’t:
Harbor resentment about something until you blow up on your partner.
Do something or push for something that they have already told you that they are not comfortable with.
Try to change their character.
Discourage them from RPing with others.
Guilt them for not RPing with you.
Take them for granted.
Keep them as a “trophy” once you have them and then rarely RP with them after that, stringing them along.
Lie to them. About anything.
Please reblog so others can see!

Don’t: Hoard RP partners!
While there is absolutely nothing wrong with having more than one RP partner, there are reasons why it is not good behavior to hoard RP partners.
Please keep in mind that I am not talking about having ships or storylines with multiple characters RPed by the same writer. Many people do that and are perfectly fine with that. But rather, I’m talking about having ships or storylines with 8 different writers (as an example.)
The issue that I’m going to focus on with this because it’s one I’ve seen happen so often and I’ve experienced myself is the time commitment that is involved and the fact that things can get out of hand very easily with this.
Everyone has a finite amount of time and it’s easy to want to RP with everyone who has characters that we enjoy. That is natural and fine. But we need to keep in mind the fact that the person who created that character created them to be played and interacted with. If you are stretching yourself so thin that you can’t keep up with everyone you RP with then that is a problem.
No one wants to have their character shipped with someone who is not around to interact with them. It’s understandable if you are a simply a busy person with RL. But if the fact is that you are spending more time with certain partners and neglecting others then that is not fair to the neglected individuals.
If there are certain people that you have been neglecting then you need to think back to how often you truly RP with them. If months go by with nothing then you need to let them go so that they can pursue other opportunities. If you’ve made promises to them that you did not follow through on then you need to let them go. It’s not fair to hold them back.
Perhaps you have flat out asked the person if the frequency of your RP with them is adequate but is that truly a fair question to ask someone? If you are the one who is doing the neglecting then you should take responsibility for it. They may still value you as a friend and worry about how you might take things if they tell you that they are not okay with it or that they wish to have their character move on.
Stop and think to yourself if you would really be okay with someone treating you the way you have been treating them. If you are no longer active and invested in the ship or storyline or RP with that person in general, then let them find someone else who will be.
RP partners are real people, not something to collect!

Guilt-tripping RP Partners - Don’t Do It
Things we’ve all heard before. Don’t be this person.
“You hate me.”
This isn’t okay. This is honestly one of the most manipulative, guilt-trippy things out there. It doesn’t matter what the context is. Don’t do it.
“But they’re rping with with other people instead.”
So? Don’t be possessive of your RP partners. They can RP with others and so can you. They aren’t an object. They are a person and they can choose to RP with anyone they wish to. It’s not a reflection of their feelings about you. It’s just them having fun.
“But they aren’t talking to me anymore either. They dumped me for someone else.”
If this is really true then you have a right to be upset but you still don’t have a right to guilt-trip the person. For a few reasons:
1. It’s still their choice who they RP with. People move on sometimes. Perhaps the RP with you wasn’t what they wanted and they found what they want elsewhere. Maybe things between your muses just wasn’t clicking how they wanted. Maybe things weren’t clicking on an OOC level. Whatever the reason, it doesn’t matter. It’s their RP, their muse, their time to spend how they want.
2. Guilt-tripping is not the way to ever get them to RP with you again. Obviously, they moved one for some reason. Maybe it was personal and maybe not. but being this way won’t help matters. All you’ve done is reinforce to them that they made the right call.
3. While you may feel the need to let the person know that they hurt your feelings, this isn’t the way to express that. Most of the time, it’s better to simply let these things go. They’ve moved on, so should you.
But in the case you wish to express to someone that they hurt your feelings for moving on from you, the better thing to say would be along these lines:
“I’m disappointed that we don’t RP together anymore. I miss it. If you ever want to pick it back up again, please let me know.”

Tips: RP Invitations
Sometimes the little things make a huge difference when it comes to communication. Try to keep that in mind when responding to invitations to RP from others.
Example: Someone asks you to RP with them on a specific day/time and you’re busy or not in the mood then.
Instead of declining and leaving it at that, offer an alternative time instead.
“Sorry, I can’t tonight but are you free tomorrow night?”
Doing this lets the person know that you are interested in RPing with them and aren’t simply trying to blow them off.
On the other side of the coin, if you are the one doing the asking, don’t be discouraged by a simple no. Sometimes if people are tired, distracted or unsure of their schedule at the time, they may just give a simple no thanks but that doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t interested. Just ask again another day!

Regarding NSFW Tags
Something I have noticed is people seem to be under the impression that NSFW means X-rated or something along those lines. That’s not really what it means.
NSFW does not just mean X-rated, pornographic, ect.
It doesn’t even necassarily mean only sexual content.
By deliberately not tagging things ‘NSFW’ you are not making any kind of social stand.
NSFW stands for ‘Not Safe For Work’, that’s literally all it is. It is warning those at work that they could get in trouble for looking at that content at work.
It also allows people to blacklist that tag so that it doesn’t show up on their dash.
It also helps those with children who don’t want their little kids looking at such things.
That way, they can still follow you but not have to worry about something popping up on their dash and cause them to get fired, or risk having their little kids see things that are inappropriate for their age.
NSFW could be gore, swearing, nudity, sex.
