Exchange Student…?
My morning started out like any other: woke up, put on my rectangular glasses, brushed my long red hair and my teeth, got dressed, put on my black boots, ate, and… ran out the door, grabbing my messenger bag in a panic because I was going to be late for work. Then, out of no where, I was in a completely different place.
There I was… standing in the middle of an unfamiliar room surrounded by men I did not know. I tugged at the ends of the sleeves of my white sweater, nervously. Of course, I was caught off guard. One minute I was in the human world and the next minute I arrived in this world called "Devildom." Diavolo and Lucifier explained that I was brought here as an exchange student to live here for a year and write a paper on my experience, handing me a D.D.D., which I slid into my jean pocket. I also had to attend the school, R.A.D., and complete tasks.
I was incredibly confused. When did I sign myself up for an exchange program? And why would I do that? I already completed my time in school. I thought I had to be having a lucid dream. Yeah, that had to be it… right?
That wasn't the case. This was very real. On top of being a student in this unknown world, I have to live in the House of Lamentation with Lucifier and his seven brothers. I already met Lucifier, the Avatar of Pride. He seemed pretty intimidating, but I'm not really worried about him. Then, there was Asmodeous, the Avatar of Lust. Satan, Avatar of Wrath. Beelzebub, the Avatar of Gluttony. And I had the "pleasure" of being in the care of Mammon, the Avatar of Greed, who did not seem very excited about any of this. On the way to the House of Lamentation, all he did was whine about Lucifier commanding him to keep me safe. "Why should I, the GREAT Mammon, have to keep an eye on a human? I got better things to do!" He complained.
I sighed, "My name is Rozalin, but you can call me Rozy." I said to him, but I wasn't sure if he was listening. At least I had some basic essentials from the human world with me. And by that, I mean my bag with my laptop and recording equipment. Maybe these demons prepared for my arrival? I guess I had to wait and see. I put my hands in my pockets and started to listen back into Mammon's complaining, "Just don't thinking that I'm scared of Lucifier, because I'm NOT." He said.
I glanced over at him and shrugged, "Honestly, I really don't care if you're afraid of him or not." Why should I care if he's afraid of Lucifier? Am I suppose to care?
"WHAT?! Oh, now you're REALLY in for it! You got a lot of guts to talk to me like that. Aren't you scared? I mean, I am a DEMON. You do know that, right?" He got pretty close and in my face, trying to intimidate me, I guessed.
"Nope. Not scared." Anxious, maybe, but not scared.
"You're a strange human, I'll give you that." He stepped back and continued to lead on.
I looked at the dorm. Devildom has a very different idea of what dorms are compared to where I'm from in the human world. This place is practically a mansion. As we walked inside, Mammon explained some other things while showing me the lobby. I must've been standing with my mouth open, because Mammon called me out on it. "Come on, quit standing around with your mouth open or I'm gonna leave you behind! If you have anything you want to ask me, you best do it now," Mammon said. Wow, some normal conversation.
I decided to make an attempt at getting to know him, since he is suppose to be watching out for me. "What are your hobbies?"
Mammon seemed surprised, "Pff. I don't have any hobbies.. Oh! How about this: I like taking it easy, laughing and having fun! That's my hobby! Ehh, I suppose that's more of a lifestyle than a hobby though…"
I couldn't help but chuckle lightly, "Yeah, that's a lifestyle, really. But same."
"I thought of something else! I like watching Lucifier squirm, like when he's in a bad situation and doesn't know what to do. Hmmm, would that really be called a hobby though?"
I smirked, the thought of a demon as intimidating as Lucifier squirming in such a situation did seem funny. "I think I would call that entertainment rather than a hobby."
"Anyway, I meant if you had questions about the dorm. I don't know why you want to know about me.." He sighed.
Oddly enough, Mammon didn't seem that bad. I admit, he's pretty attractive. His short white hair is definitely unique and his personality is too. And his blue eyes had a bit of yellow and green… Eyes that were easy to get lost in.
"Now, I'm gonna give you a piece of advice, so listen up. If you want to survive here, ya better listen," he turned to me, again, standing rather close, "If it ever looks like a demon is going to attack you, run. Either that or die."
That almost seemed kind. Maybe his brothers are wrong about him being "scum." ...
"MAMMON!!!" an unfamiliar voice echoed in the lobby.
"D'ah! Levi!" Mammon jumped.
A man with purple hair, orangish eyes, wearing a similar uniform to Mammon's, appeared before us. "L-listen up, human. This is Leviathan, the Avatar of Envy. He's the third oldest of us brothers. Since his name is kinda hard to say, you can just call him Levi. Okay, moving on." Mammon said nervously.
"Mammon, give me back my money, then go crawl in a hole and die." Levi demanded.
Ouch…
"C'mon Levi! I told you I'd get it to you. I just need a little more time!" Mammon pleaded, "And even after I return it you want me to die? That's harsh, Levi." He shook his head.
I stood there watching their squabble over money quietly.
"A little more time? How much more?" Levi asked, sounding pretty annoyed.
"A little more! A little more means a little more!"
"You've been telling me that for the last 200 years, Mammon."
200 YEARS?! How much money does Mammon owe Levi anyway? And come to think of it, if Mammon is the Avatar of Greed, why doesn't he have any money?
"Its been 260! Get it right!" Mammon stated, which wasn't helping his case.
"Seriously, Mammon, you're-"
"I'm what? SCUM? Is that what you're going to say?" Mammon seemed rather upset.
"-a lowlife and a waste of space." Levi finished.
I started to feel bad for Mammon. I mean, a 260 year and counting debt… He should've had it paid off by now, right? But I guess that depends on how much money he borrowed.
"I need it to buy the Blu-Ray box set of Journey to the Devildom: A Tale of a Little She-Devil and Her Reluctant Companion. It comes with promotional tickets to a live event as a bonus." Levi stated. I had to admit, it sounded like an incredible buy.
"I have no idea what you're talking about, but it doesn't matter! I don't have the money to give you! How can I return money that I don't have?!" Mammon exclaimed.
"So you're not going to pay me back?" Levi asked, seeming rather tense.
"What? You looking for a fight, is that it?" Mammon blurted.
Alright, this is getting out of hand. I do not want to be in the middle of a fight between demon brothers. I have to make a decision in a feeble attempt to break the tension and restore some sort of peace. Whether he's actually broke or not, maybe he had more important debts to pay off first. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. "Now, hold on. If Mammon said he doesn't have the money, then he can't possibly give it all back to you right now. Why don't you give him two weeks to get it?"
Levi looked at me, then back at Mammon, "What's the deal with this human you got here? Are they your newest sponsor or something?"
I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms.
"What? No. I'd need someone rich to support me." Mammon stated.
I placed my hands on my hips, "Excuse me??" I said, rather offended.
"Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure this one likes to collect the same stuff you do. I bet you'd kill to have some of the stuff in Rozy's collection." Mammon stated.
"What?" I looked at him puzzled. I'm sure whatever it is, it's nothing Levi would want.
Mammon continued to talk to Levi, "You know what I'm talking about, those doll things you always buy.."
"Figurines." Levi blatantly said.
"Yeah those!"
Levi immediately turned to me, "You collect too?! Which ones? Ooh, do you have any of the main characters from Battle Princess Brigade? Or Girls Only? Or Diamond Dust?" He bombarded me with questions. Was he… talking about anime? I don't think I've seen those…
"I'm sorry, I don't follow you." I said politely.
"Hold on a second… That ass, Mammon ran off!" Levi exclaimed. "You realize what just happened right? He used you as a distraction.. or should I say as a sacrifice?"
That lousy son of a bitch. I defended him and this is the thanks I get?!
