Globetrotting with Elisa Detrez and Max Coquard

When Elisa Detrez, one-half of @bestjobers, says hers is the best job in the world, she means it literally. Description? Stargazing in Jordan, swinging in hammocks over sugar-white sand in the Bahamas, exploring the Technicolor markets of India, heli-skiing in a Swiss snow globe. Requirements? “Being curious, open-minded and adaptable,” says Elisa, a 32-year-old former web marketer from France, who snagged the job of her dreams in a 2013 contest. Out of the thousands of applicants competing for one of seven “Best Jobs in the World” with Tourism Australia, Elisa won — she and her partner Max Coquard were assigned to live and travel around Queensland and write a blog for six months. When the adventure ended, neither wanted to go home. “Everyone kept asking us how we could possibly return to a ‘normal life,’” says Elisa, who today with Max, shares tips and details from travels around the globe. “We realized this could be our new life.” 🌏

Artificial “gills” could allow us to breathe underwater

A crowdfunding campaign for a product that claims to allow humans to breathe underwater without the use of scuba equipment has raised over a half million dollars so far. The Triton — “artificial gills” that will work similarly to gills on fish — supposedly allows swimmers to breathe underwater.

However, there are some individuals who believe that we are still far away from being able to breathe underwater without scuba gear, and that the Triton product may potentially be dangerous.

As 2015 comes to an end, we’re looking back at some of our favorite Weekend Hashtag Projects of the year. We featured Konrad Langer’s (@konaction) photo for #WHPactionpacked.

Before ever seeing the prompt, Konrad was in talks to collaborate with two freerunners on a different project. The first day he met the athletes in person, they decided to play around for #WHPactionpacked, and Konrad captured this photo. “I didn’t expect any really good outcome, but it was fun from the start,” he says. “Neither the surrounding nor the action dominates the scenery; it’s a harmonic interplay between both components.”
