This is from a game I've been working on an off for, for maybe 6 years, maybe even longer.. I can't actually remember. I haven't worked on it much in the last few months, because I've been working on another project, which is closer to completion, and I think, potentially more commercial. But I wanted to post this, since the last few weeks I've been posting on social media (like here for example) in an attempt to garner some publicity for my games/website (www.revengeofthesunfish.com).
Anyway today, I woke up at 8, and then I was waiting for some service dude to do an electrical test of my house that the real estate booked. I waited until 12, and then called up the company doing the test, and they informed me that they had made a mistake and the test was going to be carried out on another day. Not letting this get to me, because I had waited to start work (which I don't like to do since early morning is a good time to think clearly about complex problems) I then proceeded to do some graphics for this end of game boss monster that I've been working on for the last 3 weeks.
It's coming along slowly, but I feel like I'm making consistent progress.
I finished the graphics that I needed,
then I coded them into the game. I'm giving the boss a lightning attack, and I still haven't coded that. Maybe I will work on that next. At around 6pm, I was still coding, and it just seemed like my brain shut down. What I had written no longer made any sense. I tried to write some code, but I couldn't understand the structure I was building any longer, it was slightly disconcerting, but sometimes this happens. Then I drank a beer and lay down for about 20 mins. After a while I started to recoup my mitochondrial energy and so I cooked dinner, and then I posted some promotional things online, including this. I think I'll do some more work on the boss monster tonight (ie now), and then perhaps I'll go to bed. I might even read a book before I go to bed. Choice!!

Today I coded a game engine that's somwhat starfoxy. Last week I put out alot of music, but it didn't really generate as much of a response as I was hoping for, so I thought this week I would put all my efforts into creating one game, with the intention of finishing it by friday and publishing it. SO anyway, this starfoxy thing was the thing that I decided to do. I always wanted to make a game like this, so now im thinking I already like it too much, to just do it in a week, cause now to release it I would want it to have "conceptual grandness" meaning, 30+ levels, lots of cool stuff etc, I mean it's fun enough that I would want it to be longer. This sentence structure is convoluted, but maybe you get the idea?
Right now, the game pictured has an auto aim, and you can shoot 2 types of lasers, it has sound effects, some music (which I made) collision detection, a bat enemy. It can load levels, but the level loading code needs work. I guess the thing to go to from here, would be to code the first level, in it's entirety, plus the game loop with game over, and maybe a rudimentary title screen. Feeling a bit burnt out atm, after coding for hours I need a break,if I had access to a garden I would sit outside, but unfortunately I don't

So today I did some work on this game. It's supposed to be a quick game, and it's a collaboration with a friend of mine. We started it on Friday night, after a few beers. I'm also testing to see if posting images and blog posts on this site will expand my audience, we'll see... If not, then im gonna stop posting, (why bother if no one is reading?)
So anyway, in the game you can zoom in and out of the view (in the screenshot it is the zoomed in view and doesn't show how large the map is) and you can deform the blocky terrain by puking and crapping on it. Further mechanics are yet to be decided. As such there is no goal or win state, but you can die, by falling off the edge of the landscape, or stepping on a mine. Im quite pleased with what we did so far. The background is taken from another game of mine (an unpublished one), also you can't really tell from the sceenshot, but it is 2.5d
