as someone who’s always been a silent reader and in the fandom for a long time, there are certain things that i let slip past, however.. there are some things that just cannot continue to happen and believe should not continue to happen. i excuse if this isn’t the best to understand, as i am not the best when it comes to english. this isn’t also meant to “clock her” or be mean, just simply stating what i feel.

i used to be a big @/okwonyo reader, her fics were really good, and i don’t believe she’s an awful person. as of recently, i know she was called out for using wonyoung (ive) in her theme (even though she has been using her for a while now). now you’re probably thinking, “ocean why does it matter?” and i will tell you why.

for those who do not know, wonyoung has been seen holding a starbucks cup, she’s also an ambassador for miumiu, which alone is a really bad brand (you can do your research). now even though wonyoung hasn’t supported starbucks or is an ambassador for starbucks, the cup is still in her hand

what does this mean:

there is something called public influence, given the big idol wonyoung is, her fans are very quick to purchase things they see their idol consuming or promoting (without even trying to promote them.) wonyoung has a large fan base.. of course there are going to be fans that promote starbucks given the fact that their favorite idol was seen simply holding the cup.

now here is where i draw the line:

@/okwonyo was called out by mutiple people on the anonymous feature, telling her why it was wrong to continue to use wonyoung. here are the asks plus her response.

my takeaway: i do agree with the anon(s). her response is lacking and shows no accountability whatsoever. there are several kpop idols who have spoken up about what is going on, despite being under strict companies (zb1 matthew enhypen jake nct taeyong and renjun) i 100% agree as well, a lot of @/okwonyo ‘s mutuals have changed their representative idols within one ask. one simple ask. why can’t okwonyo do the same? why don’t the rules apply to her, but need to apply to everybody else

now i do know at one point of receiving asks, @/okwonyo has changed her theme to something completely different. which i know me alongside others have appreciated, which means she has finally understood what we are saying. here are a few other asks she has received that i believe were deleted or i just can’t find, however i have screenshots.

today, as of april 9th, i went back to her page as i do, and i see wonyoung back on her theme. at this point it is extremely disappointing to see. you would think after 2 to 3 anonymous asks, she would acknowledge the concerns and quickly change it. this is not another case of just being stubborn, this is flat out ignorance. i am extremely disappointed in her, and i know there are others who are also disappointed as well.

my message to okwonyo: please do better. you have a large following and you are a good writer, but you’re extremely stubborn, and totally ignorant right now. you cannot continue to reblog struggling palestinians asks about gofundme’s whilst continuing to use an idol who is influencing individuals to consume a brand.
