There are a lot of people who are currently reading the repeated act of ring-gifting in Rop as a way to discuss various romantic ships (mainly Saurondriel and Elondriel). This obviously makes a lot of sense from a modern contemporary lense, where ring-gifting is tightly linked to marriage and romantic love.
However, I'd like to point out that in a medieval context, ring-gifting has been more broadly used as a representation of oaths and vows. This obviously is still applicable to marriage.
In medieval literature, however, it is frequently linked to the bond between a vassal and their liege lord. In many medieval text (like Culhwch and Olwen), we see a king giving their vassal a ring. The ring in this context is a symbol of the liege lord's protection and authority, and the vassal, in turn, wears it as a sign of their loyalty.
This was such a common trope that in Beowulf, Hrodgard is referred to as a "giver of rings" and his duties as lord are described as "dealing in rings".
Tolkien obviously would have been closely familiar with this, in fact, Sauron’s whole rings of power scheme and his persona as Annatar the "Lord of gifts" and later on the "Lord of the Rings" is ultimately a more sinister play on this medieval trope.
(There are also a plethora of academic writings examining medieval kingship and ring-giving in lotr that are absolutely fascinating, btw)
So, when we look at the various scenes in Rop where characters are exchanging rings, it is (to me at least) even more interesting to view those moments as an exchange of loyalty and trust, instead of a purely romantic gesture.
So, when Elrond initially refuses to hand the rings over, he is equally refusing to give his trust to Gil-Galad and Galadriel. He is actively rejecting his kings authority and refusing to obey a direct order of his liege. Throughout the season, as he grapples with his distrust of the rings, he directly links Galadriel, Gil-Galad, and Cirdan wearing the rings as them aligning themselves with Sauron. But in the end, when he himself puts Nenya back on Galadriel's finger, he is not only healing her, but he is giving her back his trust and loyalty, and as such giving Galadriel back the authority she had lost.

my dad saw ao3 open on my computer and asked if that was like my writing club and just so you know that's what fanfic writers are now, we're all in the same writing club where we all write about the same media and show each other our little stories and that's kind of cool actually
