Dong Hua continues to be utterly shameless. That's what I love about his character. With those that he is truly close with he's an absolute troll. Stinky fish? You bet. Disappearing mid conversation? More likely than you'd think.

People perceive him as some great ruler when he's just a really old guy who is done with everyone's problems. Especially when everyone expects him to fix them. He's childish and petulant and he doesn't like to share. He's forgotten what it's like to be young and feel and be amazed until he meets Feng Jiu who is bursting with life and emotion. Her attitude makes him more shameless. More childish. He's pulling on her hair because he doesn't even know that he likes her.

Only the brazen fox queen of Qing Qui could be Dong Hua's empress because she's the only one who would revel in his behaviour. She loves those sides of him that command respect but she also loves the sides that many others don't see and wouldn't expect. She is accepting of him but without expecting anything. She selflessly loves him and she always has. Even when she thought he would never love her. She never tried to put herself upon him. She's everything his true love should be. They just suffer from chronic misunderstandings. Which is about part of the course of a story that has to cover three lives.
