a/n: yes, it is vague purple prose, but it’s mostly to sort my thoughts out... depending on where mha’s story goes i might write a follow-up?

you felt it then.

like an arrow through the heart.

a rolling clap of thunder, lighting beneath your skin.

stars blossom behind your eyelids, a night sky you get lost in. the tips of your fingers brush against their chest, scarred but alive.

then a light. brighter than the moon, brighter than the sun. warm and smiling. almost close enough to touch but just out of your grasp. always ahead.

i’ll get stronger. enough to beat you.

there is a heat that builds and builds and builds in your chest, through your skull, through your spine, through your ribs. electricity in your veins, nerves igniting.

it splits you open. 

and you fall.

a heaving gasp, like your first breath after nearly drowning. your body, flat on your back, lurches; a hand reaching towards the ceiling and eyes staring blankly at the fluorescent lights above.

tears slip down your cheeks. a raw, grief-stricken sob leaves your lips and your hand drops to clutch at your chest.

there’s an ache deep in the marrow of your bones, in your heart, in your soul.

you feel like you’ve lost something.

you never got to say goodbye.

it’s interesting to me that a lot of aged-up pro hero fics still include the hero billboard charts as a thing.

it’s run by the hero public safety commission who has groomed people into becoming assassins and spies and if you question them, they lock you up. they’re corrupt and evil and the billboard charts are another way to control heroes.

climbing the ranks is a competition where you get more benefits the higher you are. in my opinion it’s not about saving people anymore at that point.

isn’t ranking why endeavor became so obsessed with becoming “stronger”?

even hawks has said he prefers lower ranks because it’s less stress, less of a burden. more freedom.

when fics are set in a future timeline where everything is healed, i just wonder...
