PROMPTS FROM NORMAL PEOPLE *  assorted dialogue from the book by sally rooney, some lines slightly changed to suit a roleplay format, adjust as necessary
i'm not a religious person, but i do sometimes think god made you from me.
i have a sense that real life is happening somewhere far away, happening without me, and i don't know if i will ever found out where it is or become part of it.
no one can be independent of other people completely.
life offers up these moments of joy despite everything.
he probably won't come back.
what we have now, we can never have back again.
for me, the pain of loneliness will be nothing to the pain i used to feel, of being unworthy.
we've done a lot of good for each other.
people can really change one another.
you should go. i'll always be here. you know that.
generally i find men are a lot more concerned with limiting the freedoms of women than exercising personal freedom for themselves.
most people go through their whole lives without ever really feeling that close with anyone.
life is the thing you bring with you inside your own head.
even in memory, i will always find that moment unbearably intense.
i have never believed i'm fit to be loved by any person.
yes. that was it. the beginning of my life.
it's funny the decisions you make because you like someone.
your whole life is different.
i think we're at that weird age where life can change a lot from small decisions.
if people appear to behave pointlessly in grief, it's only because human life is pointless, and this is the truth that grief revealed.
i don't know what's wrong with me.
i don't know why i can't be like normal people.
it feels powerful to put an experience down in words.
people are a lot more knowable than they think they are.
there's always been something inside me that men have wanted to dominate.
i want my life to mean something.
a lot of the literary people in college see books primarily as a way of appearing cultured.
that's the only part of myself i want to protect, the part that exists inside you.
there's something so corrupt and sexy about it.
i wish you didn't have to go.
i wish you could stay the night.
life offers up these moments of joy despite everything.
literature moves me.
it almost sounds sexual.
you learn nothing very profound about yourself simply by being bullied.
it's time you'll never get back.
time is real. the money is also real.
we've done a lot of good for each other.
the snow keeps falling.
hopefully i have changed, you know, as a person. but honestly, if i have, it's because of you.
he does have immaculate taste.
it's not like this with other people.
[name], would you ever fuck off?
you lean in expecting resistance, and everything just falls away in front of you.
i would lie down and die for you at any minute.
sometimes, someone will make eye contact with me, like a bus conductor or a person looking for change, and i'll feel shocked that anyone can actually see me.
we could be in a room full of people and my eyes would always meet yours, just to find that you had already been looking.
there's something comforting about it, something good about feeling sort of numb, detached from it all.
it was different with you, didn't have to play any games with you. it was just real.
no one is ever gonna hurt you like that again. everything's gonna be all right. trust me.
i love you, and i'm not gonna let anything like that happen to you again.
we have done so much good for one another.

❛ oh great, it's you again. ❜
❛ you? kill me? that's funny. ❜
❛ for being someone you hate, i'm sure on your mind a lot. ❜
❛ you're the last person i wanted to see, actually. ❜
❛ do us both a favor. stay away from me. ❜
❛ you really are an asshole, you know that? ❜
❛ i'm the asshole? what does that make you then? ❜
❛ sometimes i think you must hate me. ❜
❛ i thought you said you never wanted to see me again. ❜
❛ if you want me to go, then you have to tell me to leave. ❜
❛ well, someone's cranky today. ❜
❛ well, someone needs to shut the fuck up. ❜

❛ you're an idiot, but... i trust you. ❜
❛ oh, don't be cute. ❜
❛ wait, did you just say that i'm cute? ❜
❛ we're not good for each other. ❜
❛ if i say yes, will you shut up? ❜
❛ don't you have to be stupid somewhere else? ❜
❛ maybe we should kiss just to break the tension. ❜
❛ i'm sorry i can't turn off my feelings as easily as you. ❜
❛ maybe there's a universe out there where we're friends. ❜
❛ how can you be so smart yet so dumb at the same time? ❜
❛ don't think this changes anything between us. ❜
❛ you look ridiculous in that outfit, by the way. ❜
❛ if you die, i'll kill you. ❜
❛ is that a challenge? ❜
❛ ah, so you're not heartless after all. ❜
❛ i don't think i've ever seen you smile. ❜
❛ you never cared about me, so why now? ❜
❛ why didn't you kill me when you had the chance? ❜
❛ i don't even remember why we started fighting. ❜
❛ i don't have time for distractions right now. ❜
❛ you're not as bad as everyone says you are. ❜
❛ enemies make the best lovers, you know. ❜

"Far be it from me to censor you on your... interests, but try not to get distracted from your job. There is a deadline to keep, if you recall."
Wolfwood arches a brow, narrowing his eyes slightly in response. He chooses not to comment on the nature of his developing bond with the collective, not like it's Mister Millions-Plastic-Forks' business.
"I haven't let a mark slip past me yet, so I wouldn't anticipate any problems down the line. You don't wanna jinx it, now do you?" he jokes lightly, giving a casual shrug of his shoulders.
Tumblr media
"I know I'm incredibly charming, but it's going to take awhile to earn that trust. If I try forcing it, then we'll both wind up emptyhanded. I'll get Blondie to his destination safe n' sound, don't you worry."
He drops the half spent smoke and stamps it out with his left heel, glancing over his shoulder at the Independent.
"Even scum like me's got his pride, after all."

SHIPPING INFO //ANSWER THE FOLLOWING FOR YOUR MUSES SO PEOPLE KNOW HOW SHIPPING WORKS ON YOUR BLOG.
tagged by: @flosalatus
WHAT IS YOUR OTP FOR YOUR CHARACTER(S)?
Vashwood, Mashwood i haven't seen the 98' anime enough to ship Wolfwood/Milly
HOW LARGE DOES THE AGE GAP HAVE TO BE TO MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE?
**I am referring to ADULTS, so 21+**
I feel like it really depends on several factors- when did they meet, is there a power imbalance, etc.
For non-humans, w/e *shrugs*
HOW FAR DO STEAMY MOMENTS HAVE TO GO BEFORE THEY ARE CONSIDERED NSFW?
Anything below the belt/involving groin action. I tend to air on the side of caution to be respectful to my dashboard.
ARE YOU SELECTIVE WHEN SHIPPING?
As someone who has gotten anonymous hate messages before, I am NOT an easy person to ship with because I never ship anything right off the bat. Even if I'm RPing a ship I LIKE, I'm still developing my version of the muse with my partner's dynamic first and foremost.
But if we discuss things in depth and there's a more than likely chance they're gonna hit it off after a few threads, then yeah.
WHO ARE OTHER CHARACTERS YOU SHIP YOUR CHARACTER WITH?
Wormwood (Zazie), Kniveswood, Roberto/Wolfwood, Livio & Razlo is a weird one cuz it depends on if they're brotherly in dynamic and that's it or not, but I'm open to it?
DOES ONE HAVE TO ASK TO SHIP WITH YOU?
Yes.
ARE YOU SHIP OBSESSED OR SHIP MORE-OR-LESS?
I'm not in love with ships in the fandom sense unless it really affects me and has a LOT of character development (like Vashwood), but in terms of ships with other RPers? If we're talking every day and talking about the ship and rping the ship- You're getting ship art, ship music, ship merchandise... I will become obsessed.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SHIP IN YOUR CURRENT FANDOM?
Vashwood, lol. I mean *GESTURES AT THE SOURCE???*
Kniveswood and Wormwood have to be a specific FLAVOR for me, esp since all the Wormwood shippers are like maybe 5 people and the ones who aren't me and E keep making non-con fan content (which, like, ew).
FINALLY, HOW DOES ONE SHIP WITH YOU?
Ask me. Literally, I probably won't say no and at worst I'll say "we can keep it in mind" if we haven't written together enough on those muses.

"I didn't say that, it's just..." he trails off, trying to choose his next few words carefully. He didn't mean to nor want to offend Zazie, but he also didn't want his next comment to come off as empty flattery either. They deserved more than that.
"When we were strangers before, I didn't notice. Then when we started to talk more and trust each other, that's when I really started picking up on little things- Like your questions and why you want to understand certain things, the way you care about ecosystems within ecosystems and protect other creatures that humans may not realize are important to the planet's survival... Just enjoying your personality more and seeing how it shines and stands out from others."
He scratches at the side of his neck a bit self-consciously, as normally he'd play stuff like this off as a joke or sweep it under the rug. He was considered part of the collective's Hive now, which was no small thing. Zazie had been there for him through some of his hardest moments as a test subject, even saved him from Legato's wrath on more than one occassion.
"You're important to me," he admits, feeling like he doesn't have to even question if the sentiment is returned.
"Lately you just seem really happy, so it's hard to not notice. It's a good thing."
Moonstruck looking faces? Their face warms further, and their eyes are forced away.
Wings fluttering? Shoulders tensed, they feel so silly for not having noticed - and make a conscious effort to remember that for next time.
Making squeaks? Another escapes them as they quickly put their hands over their mouth, as if this could possibly be a bad thing.
'You just seem a lot more... Vibrant than usual."
Oh, the fluttering in their stomach - though now distinctly not bug related they're sure - ramps up in intensity.
None of these things are bad - nor are they normally something they'd take embarrassment towards. Zazie enjoys all the little things that continue to set them apart from humanoids like Punisher or the Independents. Base instincts that happen on a primal level they can't control. But... These same traits were giving them away. Even beyond the staring, which really, they needed to learn to stop...
They just aren't really sure how to explain any of it yet.
Of course, they recognize the outward symptoms, and having now experienced the emotion themselves, they understand what drives humans to behave strangely in these circumstances. But how do they talk about it? Could they, if they weren't sure Nicholas felt the same? They shift where they sit, trying to think up a good way to address this with their human, but... Everything they think to say comes up short. They've never felt so awkward for such a good reason before.
Finally, they try to take a slow little breath, closing their eyes a moment, then looking back up again. "So... You've only thought us cute recently?"
Was it cruel to put it that way? They need to know - was it worth being unusually incredibly vulnerable or ought they simply swallow these feelings? Nicholas made them nervous, a type of unease they've never known before. Even as they've finally begun paying attention and conversing, they're fiddling with their hands, pressing into their palm as they try to get the nerves of the situation to leave them be.

@hxvemxnd:
Stop looking at...? Oh... They had been staring again, hadn't they? It's been occurring more and more frequently, though they don't always realize it before the Punisher. Staring off into space, at the human they've already decided is theirs, wondering what would be customary to do in this situation as a human. After all, humans' courtship was quite complica-- Wait-- did he call them cute?? There's a sudden sputter as the other's words sink in, shaking their head and blinking. They're fully startled out of their staring haze, processing such a simple but important comment. Cute? He... He said cute - and it wasn't just to mock them about calling him baby girl. No-- they weren't cuter than him this time, but... Just cute. Their face feels warm, but they're nowhere near the windows... What was this strange fluttering feeling? Was their guise coming apart? They place a hand at their chest, just in case. "Cute?" Their words mimic their thoughts. "You think we're cute? Not just cuter than you - cute? When did this happen? You really think we're cute...?" Perhaps a juvenile question, but... They hadn't expected the Punisher to echo their own thoughts about him.
He's actually cut down on the smoking lately, or at least within the hivemind's presence- Something that he hadn't noticed before until the smell of his own clothes began to bother him. Stale tobacco and sweat may be manly and alluring in paperback romance novels, but to the human nose it wasn't so pleasant. Not like he needed an excuse to bathe more often, but he definitely considered when and how much he would partake of his cigarettes these days.
The response to his teasing isn't Zazie's usual playful jibing, no air of superiority or statements of the colony's perfection in comparison to what a mess humankind could be.
"You've been staring and making moonstruck lookin' faces for the past few days, your wings do this little flitter on occasion, you're makin' squeaks-" he points out, counting off the odd behavior on his fingers. The sound of the collective's wings were even more plangent than the Boss' erratic piano playing whenever he got all moody and shut himself up in his creepy-ass mausoleum.
"I dunno- You just seem a lot more... vibrant than usual."
Whatever happened, must'a been good.

[Continued from HERE.]
@hxvemxnd:
They're so focused on sending the legs of their swarm out to find a cure for this curse that they don't hear the Punisher approach. They don't realize he's here until he speaks, startling them out of concentration and making them pull their mask off. There's an angry huff as they register what's happened, and quickly stand up to tell him off. Only to get the undeniably intense urge to kiss the man in front of him. There's a clear fight for a moment between telling him off about sneaking up on them, and grabbing his dumb ears to pull him down for a kiss. Stupid curse - for now they probably shouldn't fight it. They grab whatever they can of the man, pulling him firmly down and pressing their lips to his in a brief but rough kiss. They're still mad after all... Though that is a very new sensation that leaves their lips tingling even after they pull away. "You should be more careful when doing that you know!! You're lucky all you did was scare us - and why would we tell him anything, anyway?" They give an angry huff and sit back down, legs crossed as they put their mask back on. Crap-- they weren't paying attention! They didn't seem to find anything at least...
When the collective reels on him, Nicholas looks surprised- Having not realized he'd been interrupting... whatever they were doing. It's kind of unclear (from his vantage point being not an enormous hivemind of different insects, anyway).
He squints in confusion as Zazie glares, then seems to be fitfully wringing their hands over what they're about to say... Which turns out to be nothing, because-
"Mrphglmr???" Wolfwood manages to exclaim with his mouth decidedly preoccupied. He seems to just freeze in place, dumbfounded, until the hivemind releases him from their (surprisingly) strong grip.
"-and why would we tell him anything, anyway?"
"Uh," he replies eloquently, sunglasses askew. "Y'know, that actually works. If we look like we're making out, he'll probably get grossed out and leave..."
Barring the obvious, he scratches at the stubble peppered across the angle of his jawline.
"Good thinking, Zaz!"
He thinks the collective deserves a head pat.

Well, by the way they're strolling up, wolfwood should probably run - but they catch his hand so fast it's too late. "Punisher!! We need you to explain something again!! Why do humans bite each other?? Nobody seems to enjoy it when we do it." They're frowning lopsided, clearly frustrated but eager to learn.
It isn't every day that Zazie gets this worked up, so he figures it must be important... 'Important' remains subjective, however.
"Normally, we don't... Biting's kinda a low fightin' tactic, like kicking a guy in the junk, but it works. You can do it as foreplay too, but that's more like- uh... aggressive mating?"
Is that how to explain it?
Ehn, good enough.

🙊
Wolfwood's blood has dried in abstract patterns all over his cell, an unfortunate result of Bluesummers' particular brand of 'tough love'. He'd tried to bite the man even as his body was suspended in midair, folding in on itself like a piece of human origami.
His arms were restrained by a straight jacket and metal fetters kept his feet bound together, yet shackled behind him so he couldn't kick properly. A metal and leather muzzle was situated over his face to prevent him from trying to use his teeth to inflict harm, as he clearly could not be trusted to 'behave'.
The chemical burn of the serum still lingered in his throat, but he didn't have any reserves of serotonin left after all of the punishments. Instead the adrenaline rush eventually left his body and he was reduced to laying on the floor in a quiet and depressed sort of lethargy.
The tic-tic-tic of little feet on concrete managed to cut through the malaise, Nicholas opening his eyes to find a black desert beetle, about the size of a large blueberry walking towards him.
"Zaz..." he mutters, lips curling into a faint smile behind the metal cage covering the lower half of his face.
Of course, he could be getting excited over nothing- But he had a feeling that this little visitor had been sent to him.

It had been an innocent question, but like with all innocent questions, it could lead to uncomfortable discoveries. Nicholas watches as Zazie leans forward, ruminating on their answer.
"Hey, you don't gotta get a migraine trying t-" he trails off, his forced smile evaporating as the other being shares their innermost thoughts. Insects were of God, one of his creations. They served various crucial purposes in nature, entire ecosystems were dependent upon them thriving and doing what was in their nature to do. When harmed, they felt pain. When hungry, they ate.
Wasn't it only natural to want something beyond the basic hierarchy of survival, to yearn for something as eternal as they were?
"Knives is a Plant, not a human. I dunno how long they can live for, but you've known him for what- Hundred or so years? Don't get me wrong, I'm fuckin' sick of the guy and I've only been part of his operation for a couple'a months, but... If he's kept you around, then it means that you're important to him, right?"
Was he really trying to make Zazie feel better by matchmaking the collective with fucking Knives, of all people. What a lousy way to cheer someone up- This was bad.
"If entities like you exist, then you can't be the only one, right?"
The question hung in the air awkwardly, like a deflating balloon.
Rubbing a hand through his own messy mop of dark hair, Wolfwood sighs in an aggravated fashion.
"I may not be around forever and my existence is only one tiny grain of sand in an infinite desert, but I'm still HERE. So, that's gotta count for somethin' right?" he asks, looping an arm around Zazie's hunched shoulders to jostle them a bit. He presses the side of their face against his left shoulder like an obnoxious older brother, staring up at the inky vastness of the night sky.
"There are so many of us out there, it can be easy to forget that livin' together's what makes it all worthwhile. Even if we get on each other's nerves, or fight, or inadvertently hurt each other... Or ask really awkward existential questions."
They burst into giggles as Wolfwood chokes on the smoke he breathes, rocking back and forth with their hands on their stomach. Oh-- Their face burns from smiling, truly this was worth teasing the other with!! At least he plays along, teasing back about how devastated he was, and giving the bug a bigger fit of giggles.
Yes - this was exactly the reaction they desired.
But as Wolfwood's coughing dies down, so does their laughter, and the hive mind heaves a happy sigh and settles once more comfortably beside the Punisher. They weren't really expecting the next question - and who would, honestly? How do worms determine... A good mate? Humans put more thought into that than the collective ever had...
But it was a good question. If they ever selected one - what would that look like?
Their smile slowly fades as they think far too hard on this question, and they cross their legs so they can lean forward slightly as they think. A mate... Beyond mating with as many as possible to give as much offspring as possible, they supposed their hive wasn't too picky. But what about them? If they were to look for a spouse, a human... What would they look for? Humans didn't have offspring thinking perhaps only a quarter would survive after all - it's a much more serious question.
They start letting out low annoyed hums, frustrated as they try to think of an ideal mate. What would it be? Appearance? Humans didn't strike them as physically appealing. Personality? Would they want someone like their hive here, with Wolfwood and Legato and Knives? No-- no... They're not sure they could spend a lifetime with them. And that was another issue, wasn't it? With this hive they dreaded the day Zazie outlived each and every one of them... The mere idea makes them burn with an unknown emotion. If only they could live like the collective - constantly replaced, so never in fear of losing all their memories or sense of self.
"... Someone... Who would stay with us forever. Someone like us - someone who won't be gone in the blink of an eye... Humans have too short a lifespan. We're not sure... We could handle that."
Their response comes finally in a low tone, soft and genuine. It would be hard enough losing the Gung-ho guns... Could they love a human, knowing they would die? In a way... Didn't they already?
