[ROH] Flyin' High - March 22nd, 2014 - Review
- The Decade (Jacobs/Strong/Whitmer) def. Caprice Coleman & Adrenaline RUSH - ***1/4
A good opener for sure. It's all I can say about this one. We saw RUSH having some flight spots that kept the fans interested.
Angle with Cole, Bennett and Maria. The last two did an impersonation of The Briscoes exploiting a "delayed flight" until The Briscoes appear to start a brawl. Good booking.
- RD Evans def. Kyle O'Reilly, Romantic Touch and Silas Young - ***
Not an intense match but it was what it should have been. It had a good booking and it showed. Silas was DQ'ed for using the strap belt on Evans, leading to Evans being floored until the end of the bout. He won with a Bridge pin while Kyle applied the Armageddon. Finally I have to admire Titus for being really good as Romantic Touch.
- Michael Elgin def. Cedric Alexander - ***1/2
A really good bout. Cedric has surprised me this here. I liked what I saw as the match was built slowly until a frenetic end with some kick-outs from Cedric, which almost kept us thinking that the guy really wanted the win. Still, in my opinion, Cedric vs. Steen (Raising The Bar 2) was better.
- Kevin Steen def. Bobby Fish via DQ - **1/4
We could have had a really nice match, tho, we can't complain. It was something like 4 minutes of Steen provocking Fish, then he did the same to O'Reilly which led to O'Reilly interfering. RD saved Steen to set up a tag match.
- Kevin Steen & RD Evans def. reDRagon via DQ - ***1/4
Was a solid match. Not bad, but not really good. The objective was to put Evans over and that worker, despite they really didn't need to do it because a crowd like that automatically puts anyone over. At the end, Steen piledrived Fish, RD made the pin but Kyle appeared with a chair. New DQ. Nothing to complain about the booking.
After the match Steen hyped RD Evans' 67-0 streak.
- ROH TV Championship: Tommaso Ciampa (c) def. Matt Taven - ***1/4
Predictable. We knew Ciampa was going to retain and we knew that Martini would make an appearance of some kind. He did, bringing Seleyzia with him. She low blowed Taven and Ciampa capitalized. I admire Ciampa for his way to keep the crowd going with the Running Knees.
Good promo from Taven after the match advising Martini that as Supercard Of Honor, HE would go after Martini, not the opposite. He also called Seleyzia a shemale. Ouch.
- AJ Styles def. Chris Hero - ****
Easily MOTN and in my opinion better than any Cole vs. Hero. Fast paced since the beginning, the fans really loved it. As we were in Dayton, Hero could have pulled the win but it made much more sense this way. AJ won by submission and he's going for the title.
New promo, this time by Hero, who put over AJ and talked about his hometown, honoring the town that saw him growing up and also honoring his mom who was on the building. Jacobs interfered calling for Hero which distracted him causing an attack by The Decade. Nice to give them more heat.
- The Briscoe Brothers def. Adam Cole & Michael Bennett - ***3/4
It made sense that this was the main event. It was a physical bout that saw p.e. a Side Effect by Bennett onto a table ringside which led to both Michael and Mark being out for the rest of the match. I'm liking that story of Matt Hardy mentoring both Adam and Bennett. The final was great, with Jay pinning Cole to keep them both fired up for the Ladder War. At the end Cole attacked Jay.
It was a great event. Until now in 2014 only Anniversary Show was better and we only understood it was a secondary show for the hype given to SCOH. Pretty great ROH.
