I finished Killing Eve S2 last night and I have a lot of thoughts swirling around in my head, but the thing that keeps popping up above all of them is - nobody ever says the word lesbian, or gay. Nobody profiles Villanelle and her apparently exclusive interest in women as part of her psychopathy. Nobody bundles the fact that Villanelle is a woman into the problems of Eve’s intense psychosexual attraction to her. Nobody makes jokes about how she’s turned gay, even/especially in the face of her marriage that’s falling apart. No jokes, no comments are ever made about the attraction between Eve and Villanelle by their respective crews aside from concern bc of the fact of who the other is and the danger they present. Even when it’s explicitly asked ‘are you having sex?’ it’s calmly, and in terms of Eve’s own concern for the way her life is spiralling out of control. It would be so easy to make cheap comedy out of this situation, but they don’t.

I can hold it long enough. — You’re a brave man, Mr. de la Torre. — Don’t say that. It makes me nervous.
