Daily Updates Week 3
MONDAY 30TH APRIL
- Came down with a bug or something, could barely stand, slept it off.
TUESDAY 1ST MAY
- Met with UL clients for the second time since the beginning of the brief.
- In turn, presented the various clips, gifs and assets that we had produced.
- Took notes of their feedback and went over to function of each of the videos and assets to confirm that nothing was lost in translation and we were all on the same page.
-Copied the videos/gifs to their dropbox folder and arranged to meet the following week to review any amendments, alterations or additions to the project.
WEDNESDAY 2ND MAY
- Reopened, altered and re-rendered previous After Effects files with alternate colour schemes.
-Produced 3 versions of each gif/video, each with a different colour gradient (Orange-Yellow, Pink-Purple, Light Blue-Dark Blue)

Daily Updates Week 3
MONDAY 23RD APRIL
-Due to transportation issues I was unable to make it in to college and, having no access to the necessary programmes (Photoshop, after Effects, Premiere Pro etc.), I couldn鈥檛 make any progress.聽
-I came up with a couple of ideas but, as i have primarily been making short GIFs, Storyboarding would have been a little superfluous.
TUESDAY 24TH APRIL
-Having still not met with the DRS team in UL since receiving the brief, I had pretty much run out of steam in terms of what I could produce with the information at hand.
- I resigned myself to experimenting with tools and effects in adobe After Effects arbitrarily to further familiarise myself with the software and try to discover some visual effect or transition that i could build an idea around.
WEDNESDAY 25TH APRIL
-I spent the first half of the day continuing to experiment with tools in After Effects, applying multiple effects one asset and adjusting settings to see how they relate to one another and how this could be manipulated.
-In the evening I decided to revisit my submission from the previous brief toes if I could reuse certain elements of it in a new short video or GIF.
THURSDAY 26TH
-I picked up where I had left off the day before, reworking my 12 second sting and recreating it with a less sensational colour scheme to blend in with the designated colour scheme.
I encountered pacing issues as the end product of the method I was using is somewhat unpredictable and a certain amount of trial and error was unavoidable.
Having produced a Gif that I was relatively happy with, I took a looped background animation that I designed the previous week and applied a simple 3D effect.
FRIDAY 27TH APRIL
-I compiled the work produced so far for a brief presentation for the tutors.

Daily聽Updates Week 2
MONDAY 16TH APRIL
- I was running late for a CCS deadline and had until 4 to submit so the day was primarily given to finishing/referencing my essay and working around issues with the printers in the George鈥檚 Quay and Clare street campuses.
- In terms of the DRS project I met with the team, discussed progress made over the previous week and the respective directions we were each taking this week.
TUESDAY 17TH APRIL
- Storyboarded concepts for GIFs, tried to keep my ideas nondescript but broadly relevant to the the DRS, keeping in mind that the clients have yet to finalise the finer points of the conference (colour coding/thematic or visual overlaps and consistency).
- Began creating assets for my chosen concept in After Effects.
WEDNESDAY 18TH APRIL
- Began manipulating the visual assets in After Effects but encountered issues with continuity when it came to looping.
- Produced 4 or 5 versions, each with similar continuity issues.
- Eventually reworked the cues and re-rendered the clip from After Effects and am happy enough with the result.
THURSDAY 19TH APRIL
- Attempted to revisit my original 12 second submission, with the intention of using the kaleidoscope effect in the as a background for a new text manipulation video.
-Encountered problems with colour gradients and pacing over the course of the day and decided to scrap the idea.
FRIDAY 20TH APRIL
- Discovered the lightning effect in After Effects drew up a storyboard using the lightning and glow effects as a method of transitioning between blocks of text.
- Experimented with effects such as speed, branching, branch length and core/edge colour in an attempt to achieve a natural and spontaneous visual effect.

Daily Updates:
MONDAY 9TH APRIL:聽
-Received Brief and broke into groups.
-Brainstormed questions for UL clients: Target market, rundown of events, designers and researchers affiliated with DRS, themes/colour/content specifications, intended use for work produced etc.
-Arranged to meet with clients at UL on Tuesday 10th.
TUESDAY 10TH APRIL:
-Met with UL clients.
-Discussed timetable structure and layout of events over the course of the convention.
-Broke the workload up between the 3 days and split them into categories e.g Keynote speakers, Papers, Workshops, Conversations.
- Finalised how each selected animation would be utilised during the convention.
-Agreed to meet with other design team to consolidate efforts and avoid continuity errors/mismatched aesthetic or thematic approaches.
WEDNESDAY 11TH APRIL
-Distributed and assessed files from clients. Colour schemes etc.
-Discussed and developed ideas for promotional GIFs/short clips.
THURSDAY 12TH APRIL
-Established social networking connections for quick, concise communication and data transfer between group members and tutors (Facebook,Google+).
Began work on sample GIFs , focusing on text distortion and manipulation.
FRIDAY 13TH APRIL
-Worked out the logistical kinks in Google+ community page and GIF rendering.
-Finalised and compiled work from Thursday on G+ community page.
-Compiled all available submissions into a show reel.
