Composition is obviously based on the Major Arcana the Hanged Man, because the meaning of the card encompasses the themes of the story very well. I felt very smart replacing the halo from the card with the outline of the Astral Prism.

As far as I can tell I am the only person on the planet with my first name/last name combo (I have an extremely specific habitational surname and a first name from a different cultural tradition) but I'm wondering how common it is to be the only one these days, with increasingly creative combinations and spellings. I am also about to get real fucking brainrot about Zern and his dad. Zern got to spend the summer on his father's home plane with his real father; a human smith on a plane called Pherros. Ernest Steeltamer, forgemaster and royal smith to King Jarn, who's been pining for Zern's mom for 25 years getting to see his love for Zelaria in how much his half-elven son looks like him and i am on the floor crying over him

Also as thanks for helping King Jarn save a mithril mine, Zern was rewarded with Steelbreaker, a +3 longsword, made by his father, that belongs to the King, but as King Jarn wants to keep the kingdom in peace, he bequeathed Steelbreaker to Zern, and back into the Steeltamer family.

It's pictured here as it looks as Zern's pact weapon; where it retains is base design but gets echoes ofthe Six-Armed Blade.

Renamed the months because I couldn’t remember the month names myself, now they’re more literal.

Tideswell: the planet’s tilt makes it so the ocean rises several feet and marks the beginning of summer and the new year

Crystalswell: the geothermal currents on the surface change direction and it makes the lumen crystals that dot the ceiling of the underseas shine brighter than usual

Crystalwane: the currents shift again and the crystals dim

Mosswane: moss and mushrooms begin to wilt, this marks the autumnal season

Tidewane: tides recede and the winter begins, it’s very short and even if stuff doesn’t grow as abundantly, the temperature doesn’t shift much and it’s basically unheard of to starve through winter.

Mosswell: moss and mushrooms begin to bloom again, spring starts and people begin planting for summer in preparation of the new year

The year is divided into Swell season and Wane season and I’m using our seasons for our convenience

Old sketch of a young Abbie, a babbie if you will, as I was thinking about the uniforms young Illithid wear at the schools where they’re raised.

Abbie was a very surly child who’s boundless curiosity and wanderlust wasn’t very welcome in the highly conformist society of Illithid.

(From my homebrew setting where Illithid have been engineered to grow from tadpoles to adults without hosts, so you get baby mindflayers)

I’m very proud of my first attempt at long-form fiction hitting over 100k words! I’m also very proud at the tangible improvements I can see in both my prose and my dialogue. I feel like I’ve truly started finding my style and my voice.

At this point I’m writing mostly for me and the two people who comment on every chapter, but I’m very proud of the chapters I am producing.

Fanfic is for indulging and making your readers read through paragraphs of headcanons where I meticulously place buildings in the correct district of Baldur’s Gate. <3
