Forgive the brief ramble, but I hope I can offer a little clarity.
8-bit and 16-bit are descriptors for the number of colors a single pixel can have. In 8-bit, you are limited to 256 colors and no blending of shades between. For example, the palette below:
16-bit is less strict because different computer manufacturers went on to make different architectures, but when bits started to hold more data inside them, you got a wider selection of colors, with plenty of shades between.
All this to say, color selection was not indicative of the style because it just determined what color the graphics were.
It's the resolution that OP is looking for, potentially. Back then, each block was literally the pixel on the screen. Now, we emulate that by making hundreds of screen pixels appear to be as one. So, to start making a game in that style, you might look at different resolutions that are in the same ratio as your target screen (this is usually 16:9) and sketch out your characters and scenes in that resolution to see how much detail you are happy with.
Good luck!
Hi, I'm starting to look into making my own video game and I'm debating between 8 bit and 16 bit pixel graphics. I was wondering, if you knew of a good place I could go for examples of the difference between the two? I've looked on tumblr but most of the pixel art here either doesn't say which one it is or it's tagged with both
when people talk about 8bit or 16bit they are usually talking about the era of graphics. so 8bit might look like a game that came out on the NES (an 8 bit console), shovel knight is a famous example of an 8bit styled game.
while 16bit could be SNES graphics, something like breath of fire or super metroid
your best bet would be to look up the catalog on those consoles

My mom has surrounded me with handmade things my entire life but I remember the very first one the very best. My family was gifted many plush animals when I came into the world, so I had a huge selection of things to snuggle with. But I chose this ragdoll-style bunny plush my mom had sewn for me. Her name was Alicia and she became instrumental to my personal comfort. For 18 years, I could hardly fall asleep if Alicia was not tucked into my arms. I remember after a trip to stay with my cousins, in the hurry and bustle to get packed and back home, Alicia was forgotten on the bed. My aunt mailed her back to me with a beautiful message about Alicia missing me and being happy to be reunited with me. I loved my bunny so much. The soft muslin of her face has since begun to deteriorate, so Alicia resides safely in a little box and has moved with me everywhere. Her sister, Flora, also sewn by my mom, comforted me similarly near the end of my marriage and through my divorce.
Tell me a soft memory

halloween is THE guild wars 2 holiday. come with me, we’re going to run around in circles in a decrepit, hallowed nightmare dimension, killing plastic spiders and glow-in-the-dark skeletons and candy corn elementals. the looming ghosts of a deposed pumpkin-headed king and the lich who wanted to fuck you so bad before your daughter ate him for breakfast are going to make gay passive-aggressive digs at each other every other minute like you’re not even there. sometimes steve is there too

On a pretty impulsive whim, as soon as I knew they existed on Amazon, I bought two blank tarot card decks. One will be going to a friend for her birthday and the other will undoubtedly sit untouched in my craft room for several months until I decide what I want to do with it
But the ENERGY behind it is INTENSE and WHY HASNT IT BEEN DELIVERED YET
#i ordered it an hour and a half ago#thats why it hasnt been delivered#not to mention it is not due to arrive until late September#so I have time to daydream about it for a whilw#but o m G#HDJDBFHDIDKKLWNQBSHHDK#wrens rambles

Every book marketing demands the author provide “comp titles.” I’m sure you’re familiar. “This book is like X meets Y!” “Perfect for fans of Q and Z!” And I always wonder…
Let me know what kind of books you read in the tags, I’m curious if this varies by genre.
And I’m not talking about recommendations from friends or even reviewers, I’m talking about comp titles as official marketing material.
#i read all sorts#but tend to lean towards urban fantasy#or high fantasy sometimes#and sci fi#i need stories with complex characters#romance only if its done well#the golem and the djinn comes to mind#and circe#i enjoyed red rising too#but i cant with a lot of modern “romantasy”#the characters are brittle#and I need more of a world built than they tend to offer in my experience#i read the summary of the book and if it grabs me at that point i give it a try#sometimes ill read more about it online before taking thw plunge

The difference between a good photograph and a National Geographic photograph is often just a slight shift in perspective. Sometimes a ladder is really inexpensive tool (less so in my case, since I had to fly it to the remote Indian Ocean atoll of Aldabra) to obtain a different point of view. This proved to be the case on assignment for @natgeo in Seychelles a few years ago, when the ladder helped me create the opening image for this story. I have posted that particular photograph before, but I will post it again tomorrow for reference. Aldabra has the highest concentration of blacktip reef sharks I have ever experienced. The sheer abundance of sharks there is completely out of this world. At low tide they congregate in a small lagoon on a reef flat where a brisk current bathes them in cooler well oxygenated water. They avoid the deeper water off the reef edge where bigger sharks may prey on them. Time lapse video by my assistant and talented videographer @ottowhitehead
