Why do we have to learn MIL? Is this important in our lives? Do we know enough about the society we're in? Can we really call ourselves Media Information Literate?
These were the questions that I had at the beginning. I was so high of myself that I thought, I knew everything. But, Learning MIL made me change that perspective that triggers my inner curiosity to learn skills and widen my knowledge that I will be needing towards active engagement in the near future. It may be in economic opportunities, political participation, social connections and others.
As a student and as a citizen, every piece of information is vital. With the help of MIL, I got to verify if the information came from reliable source and of course, essential to current situation. Fake information can cause misconceptions which leads to overpowering of the truth and complications among the understanding of the people.  If i gain something useful, I should not be selfish about it, rather share it to my fellow citizen. This is what the Fourth law of MIL wants to tell us, every citizen is wants to know understand new information and knowledge. This will help us accords only to truth. A great opportunity to help others to be literate as well.
For me, aside from discussions, the very highlight of this quarter is when we did our propaganda. I got to explore the different problems related to MIL as I was choosing a topic for my output. And, I could say that some of which really pose a huge impact on the victim. For instance, cyber bullying, shaming, etc. This tells me that being knowledgeable and literate at the same time is important because, as much as possible, this is what prevents the problem to happen.
To be able to share legit information through various forms of media, is what makes a person media information literate. Use this skill to empower. Use it to show the truth.

Have you ever gone to a place wherein almost everything is new to you? Have you ever tried to blend in despite of culture difference? Have you found learned something interesting that cannot be found in any book or website you see?
Well, that is Indigenous Media
Indigenous Media refers to any kind of unique Information that originates from a certain region. It also represents the culture of indigenous people.
This can be in forms of:
° Folk or Traditional Media
° Social Gatherings
° Instructions
° Records
This is very important as society is getting more digitalized, we seem to forget the culture sometimes. Knowing this, we can preserve the culture through the knowledge that is handed down by our ancestors. Also, it cannot be easoly found in any books. Moreover, we can enhance the different ways such as dance and music in cultural form. We can bring the culture into bigger perspective. Thus, it would be more recognizable or visible to the people.

The society has its own phases, describing what it really is. This is the very reason why there is division between the fortunate and unfortunate, the educated and uneducated, the rural and urban, the more and less developed industries. Now that the world is inevitably becoming more modernized; inventions of new gadgets, and innovations of old technology. It would be a lot disadvantageous for those in the lower society. There is a gap in terms of access to different technology and information.
Since every information is posted online, anyone can access it. But, there is a limitation that not all people would know about it due to digital divide. Especially now that the nation is in a middle of huge crisis. Every information is important.
We all have an endless chances and power to help, let's use it. We can help those people who do not have enough access to cope up with gradual progression of technology.
NOT EVERYONE HAS WHAT OTHERS GOT

Pre-Indutrial Age (The age of the Ancient)
It is pretty interesting to know the craftiness and creativity of the people back then. They created things through the resources they have to invent a media that helped them communicate with people. It even gave a description or an idea of their life, involving their beliefs, and way of living . Best examples for these are the codex in the Mayan region during the 5th century, cave paintings, papyrus in Egypt, etc.
Industrial Age (The age of the Press)
This is the age where the mass productions of machines had started, like the printing press, Typewriter, telegraph, etc. I remember when I was younger, I tried using typewriter. It was entertaining because of the sound from the clicks. But, as much as I know, you can't make mistakes when typing as it automatically prints the text. Also, animation started in this era through the use of motion picture photography. I haven't actually tried to do an animation, and it seems hard, especially in this age where frames were manually made.
Electronic Age (The age of early technology)
Gadgets and other devices had introduced in this age due to invention of transistor. Some examples are the old television (The box-like type), computers, and radio. Obviously, long distance communication has become more efficient. Unlike in previous age, people had to write letters, and wait for response. In this era, people got their response quick.
Information Age (The age of modernization)
It was called 'information' age because in this age information is accessible to everyone. This is the present age we are in. We use different social media platforms, such as facebook, instagram, twitter, google hangouts, etc. to connect with the world, to be updated with the current happenings, to share our knowledge, and of course communicate with friends and family. With the help of internet, we can obtain things. For example, when we don't know something, we can just search it right away on google, and we can express ourselves via different blog websites.
The gradual Progression of media allows us to gain information in much easier and simpler way but poses a warning to identify first if it's from reliable source. It also gives us an idea to use media effectively and efficiently for the benefit of ourselves and other people.

Tumblr media
Media - It refers to any physical objects that is used to communicate or deliver message.
Every one of us is familiar with this as we are using this in our everyday lives. Through this, we are able to share, understand, and connect
There's a process how we communicate:
Sender: The one who has and decides the idea → Message: Idea as the message that is being relayed on → Channel: The medium we use to pass on the message → Receiver: The one who interprets the message
We must not forget that there's always a feedback once the receiver receives the message. It's the reaction of the receiver how well he/she understands the message. We must also consider that "A no feedback is also a feedback"
In addition, sender can be a receiver and vice versa. This is how conversations are created, due to feedback. We are able to give our response based on what we understand.
We are exceptionally exposed to different kinds of media. This means that we should be careful on the information we share about certain things. We should choose the right words. So that, there would not be any misconceptions or misunderstanding. Thus, we can correct false information and be able to share the truth and the knowledge.

Hey wazzup! 👋🏼
Tumblr media
I'm Brix E. Rodriguez. I don't really have a nickname but some of my friends call me Brixy. I don't know why and when that started, but you can also call me that. If you want to know more about me, please keep reading.
I'm 17 years old, currently in Grade 12, a STEM student of UPHSD - Molino, aiming to be a surgical doctor someday.
Attached here is an aesthetic photo of me. It was from last year because these are only photos I have that I looked decent enough.
The photo already gave a hint that I'm into arts, whether it's traditional or digital. I'm not proficient yet, but I want to enhance my skills. I started to have interest in this when I was in Junior High School. I had a classmate who was really great in arts, I've seen her do one of her masterpieces, and it was mesmerizing. I got inspired and thought "why don't I try to do it?." So I watched tons of videos about painting, calligraphy, drawing, and other stuff related to it. I tried to do the basics, it was hard at first though. But as I got more familiar with the process and the materials. It got a bit easier. Until then, doing arts has become one of my habits.
Speaking of habits, I love watching movies and series, specifically mystery, science-fiction, and action. It is one of the things I do whenever I'm overwhelmed with activities in school. It helps me ease-off my mind from stress, and so I can organize my schedule. Besides, it's fun to watch with family and friends, especially if the genre is horror. I'm not much of a fan of anime, but If there's a good recommendation, I'd watch it.
I also play online games, like PUBG, Mobile Legends, COC, etc. It's one of the things my siblings and I have in common and also our bonding.
I read books as well. It's my company whenever I want to isolate myself, then act as an emo or bored.
In terms of academics, I'm a grade conscious student. Failing has been my fear ever since I started school. So I take my studies seriously, but the thing is, sometimes I sacrifice my time from my family. I'm still learning how to manage my time well.
Just in case you're wondering what kind of person I am. I am not fully an introverted nor extroverted person. I'm an ambivert. Sometimes I feel that I want to take on adventures, and be active in socializing. I don't like large crowds, I love it when I'm part of a small group, sharing stories and doing fun stuff. But sometimes, I want to be alone. Have some "me-time" and do my usual things.
Hope you got to know a little bit of me. Thank you for reading! 💚
