Retrospective

These are some of my recent works as lighting designer in Brazil.

Vende-se

This is a play by Marco Keppler, the prologue was a kind of a coreography that guided many aspects of the movements of the actors during the work. That was not a good venue so I couldn’t do much with the lights but I could manage the atmosphere of the play controlling intensity and using some effects in specific moments like color changing and projectors in different angles.

Be a Horse – Confessions of a Masochist by Roman Sikora

This scene was part of a process in order to select a Brazilian director and a scenographer to make a play in Poland. I’ve helped my friends Aline Negra Silva and Felipe de Oliveira to make this scene and they were selected and later earned two awards for Best Play and Best Actor in Koszalin - Poland.

Histórias Curtas Sobre Amores Inacabados

This play was about love stories, loneliness and connections in the contemporary world. I did the lighting which was supposed to bring the audience to an atmosphere of nightclubs and electronic music, and I also did the video projection which showed an external, ephemeral world in the city, filled with anonymous people, movement and emptiness, which opposed to the inner subject of the piece. This teaser is awful, but I hope you can enjoy some of that.

Distopia

This is by far the work that I’m more proud of, but that’s SO unfortunate that I don’t have the video with me, only some pics and a video of a preview in the beginning of our creative process. That work investigated what we understood (or what society understands) as the role of an artist, what are the disillusions of the art world in São Paulo, and mainly tried to understand how we could be more sincere and selfless to ourselves and to the audience doing this performance. In the end we put the audience onstage and placed a microphone in front of them so that we changed the perspective of who was performing for whom. We used sodium and Mercury vapour lamps (the same used to illuminate the streets) as well as conventional projectors and smoke, and we also made a light installation in the entrance of the performance room.
