- My favorite Flash!

The only flash but still! I love the stage motif transition between every act, and the entire Felt Mansion is just a visual masterpiece, it's so cool!!! ( I have one of the rooms as my laptop wallpaper hehe. )

I can MOSTLY follow the webcomic characters reading webcomics joke, the beta kids reading the midnight crew makes sense, so the midnight crew would read Homestuck, all well and good, THAN WHAT THE FUCK WAS JADE READING... I believe it’s main purpose is for Hussie to make semi self loathing meta jokes about how dense all their work is but in reality this joke just creates way too many questions to work.

- “On review, your schemes seem a bit convoluted. But you wouldn't have it any other way.” Yeah, that's pretty much what I expected. It’s honestly too early to try to grasp the timey-wimey shenanigans of the INTERMISSION, but I will do my BEST!!

- Ok so favorites. I love all the Midnight crew but especially I love Spades Slick ( the humor that comes with him is always so witty and dry. ) and Diamonds Droog. ( I don’t remember much about him besides I find him very handsome,, ) (( Dad Egbert and Spades both pair cute with him in my humble opinion.. )) Favorite Felt members ( from the top of my head ) are Fin, Clover, Die, Stitch in no particular order! ( Sidenote: i love the Felt’s clever names hehe. ) While I'm on this note, I will also say Ms Paint has a VERY special place in my heart, I adore the little lady. I love Snowman aswell, she’s so menacing and horrifyingly gorgeous. Lastly, Doc Scratch. IIIII love him SO much. I have an affinity for rude narcissistic men in formal attire, he is no exception. ( My main tumblr page and laptop are both Doc Scratch themed. )

- My favorite Panel!

This panel is just soso cool. The colors fit so nice together and there’s stringy linework that Hussie utilizes so well. ( also he just looks hot. ) Spades Slick the man you are.. Also good time to state, SS is my favorite incarnation of Jack!

- Along with my previous point on Spades Slick and the writing that comes along with him, the INTERMISSION is filled with good bits and concepts such as how they store their items into their favorite pornagraphic magazine.

- I am excited to read the INTERMISSION because in a way I feel like it inadvertently gives me a feel of how my future Problem Sleuth reading will go. I enjoy the easily identifiable formulaic structures.

Another small Homestuck artstyle degradation rant. Homestuck utilizes its bean art style ( which I discussed in an earlier post ) in the later end of its run, I believe majoritively for convenience. I believe this is also why they opted for simplistic geometric backgrounds and real backgrounds aswell.

( Please excuse my cherry picking of each Panel, it’s hard to find perfectly adequate examples. )

Background wise, while the early acts have the thin geometric grayscale to monochrome line art, they also have complex colorful geometric backgrounds which devolved into simplistic geometric shapes is obviously easier to mass produce with faster turn around, but god does it make me sad.

While early acts of Homestuck utilize real images i believe they are better well implemented, it looks more purposeful and it results in it looking more pretty.

I am starting to understand how people got to the Dad Egbert/Diamonds Droog rarepair.

ALTERNIA’S first appearance!! The moons are the only thing I recognise, it's so multicolored and bright? I love the sparkly green sky.

Why do Biscuts and Eggs look so fucking weird, like theyre not to scale or something.

Did Die somehow transport the Mansion to Alternia????

- Is the timey-wimey shenanigans of the INTERMISSION going over my head again? ...perhaps. All of the time trails visuals are really pretty to look at however so i can’t really stay upset!

- Sorry today’s post was mostly reactionary notes to the pages! I have a feeling that’ll be the theme with the INTERMISSION just because of the way it's like,, written?? It’s just harder to make over arching commentary is what I'm getting at :B.

- So is this a genetic thing... or what /j.

- I forgot if Jade is aware of her dreambot or not? If not, is this why she believes her foresight and the intuition that comes with so strongly? Because her DreamBot somehow relays her dream knowledge, aka the fortunes in the clouds of Skia to her?

- It seems like she got smaller lol? I do not have a problem with this inconsistency, just cute. The name “VODKA MUTINI/Mutie” is also just so perfect.

- John was already so worked up about JUST the prospect of his movie posters being defiled. Rose accepting that ( hilarious ) notion that John would just “ironically” wreck his room for the sole purpose of mocking his father? ( Which would be a very Rose thing to do, so i GUESS it all lines but still wild assumption to make. ) John has been taking all of his mental breaks like a champ, but god i’m scared for this one. Imagine learning you blocked out the memory of ruining your own room, the objects you regard fondly, writing “DUMB KID” pointing at where you sleep, and also your friend just rasionizing that immediately?? John’s Dad must have been SO worried and John was none the wiser. Imagine how he must feel? Drawing harlequins, the things you despise most and self loathing scribbles, imagine the mental toll of not trusting your own reality? Making these seemingly unconscious decisions. John’s trauma’s need to be addressed more, he just goes through so much while being so young. It’s hard, being a kid and growing up. It’s hard and nobody understands.

- By the way, I haven't been able to click on these extra linked images That only show up in the exiles panels, I think. ( Because they are blocked on my school laptop. ) I just thought I would note that, I will try to find them on a different device to check them out from here on out however!

- Aimless Renegade is my favorite exile. I tend to have the fandom habit of having an affinity for the unpopular characters and that definitely plays a part in this, but also he’s just fucking badass. ( and his theme Aimless Morning Gold goes SO hard.

- Really small aside, I love the differences in how the kids type ( and that they type differently under different emotions ) . It's such a small detail that really humanizes them. John and Dave come to mind, ( and sorry for using the Dave neck deep in puppet ass panel it was the only page I could think of LMAO. ) Dave types with one hand, using multiple fingers, typing so smoothly and swiftly while John types with one finger, probably hitting the keyboard hard as shit like an old man.

- My favorite Pesterlog!

- I really enjoy this pesterlog for numerous reasons. Rose comforts John in her own apathetic smart aleck Rosey way, which I find sweet. Rose’s interpretations that fall in line with how she perceives John’s relationship with his Father vs how she perceives her own relationship with her Mother. I also like the line that proceeds this, that just reinforced my previous point, plus I like the wording, it just seems childlike, reminding you that they are young internet friends who have never had to meet each other's parents. Lastly, I really like the last bit of conversation here. John switches the subject to something silly he just made, Rose doesn't tell him he’s wasting time or that he’s avoiding the subject. She plays along, dropping the intelligent snark shtick, instead of saying something sarcastic she replies with a genuine “It’s awesome.” and John replies with a simple wistful “yeah.”

- [S] Jade: Dream up extra arms and play advanced bass solo.

Prospit Jade/DreamBot Jade shenanigans and along with it, a proper introduction to Prospit and Skia! This flash has SUCH good music complimented by pretty visuals, the dream moons are so beautiful and the visual of the plants thriving to the music is soo nice.

- This is most likely a stretch but does “Jade: Change wardrobifier to cycle through STAR, HEART, HORSESHOE.” foreshadow The Felt iconography/Leprechaun Romance?

- *Foams at the mouth* soooo pretty,,,,

- Prospitian PM!! I adore her relationship with Jade, so cute!! :D ( Also her outfit is so pretty omg?? )

- I just came to the revelation and i have no idea if it was intentional but the Sassacre text which has alot to do with Nanna has the same color scheme as the Life aspect!

- Oh god. ( This is an image so perfect for Non Homestuck readers to take out of context in a comedic fashion. I love how John just stares at the thing. )

- Dave is comically tragic. Nonchalantly telling my best friend my parental figure just physically abused me. Not trying to cry for help or anything. Only LAME people do that shit.

- [S] Jade: Pester John.

The track for this flash sounds so mysterious and whimsical, like a fairytale movie song or something. It really amplifies the importance of this flash, this is a big moment, payoff for questions about Jade’s foresight powers, and making them actually plausible! Payoff to my previous question of how did John see Jade in his dream if he didn’t know what she looked like?? It was Prospit John looking at Prospit Jade!! I’m really proud of myself for asking the right questions hehe.

- Also how the hell did Prospit Jade’s tower go to her island??? Is this just symbolic of Jade’s actual tower and just a metaphor?? But then how is Prospit Jade seeing the meteor and texting John about it if its not actually there?? LASTLY, THEIR SYNCHRONIZED HEAD SHAKES!!!! the siblings ever,, i am literally crying.

( my notes might be a little all over the place on this post from here and out, i am in a noisy environment hehe! )

- On my previous point, Jade is aware of DreamBot Jade and her deal!! “Since your DREAMBOT is secured in its chamber and does not need to be looked after”

- “This way you can kill two birds with one harpoon gun.” Good bit! best webcomic!

- “Perfectly good STRIFE SPECIBUS, down the toilet. Thanks BRO.”

- I wonder if this is the start of Dave starting to not idolize his Bro as much, even if in little amounts, he’s noticing and expressing that Bro’s abuse is “not cool”.

- “It's like what are you made of time.” foreshadowing for Dave’s aspect... *foams at the mouth*

- “no one gets the best of Rose Lalonde.” I love Rose’s competitiveness in upstaging people, best example of this are of course Rose and her Mother.

- KANAYA IS HERE!! Aswell as Karkat her first conversation is iconic

I am so excited to see Rosemary blossom from Kanaya’s trolling her with quiet admiration to Rose’s doubtful but respectful cynicism into a perfectly in sync loving married couple. The girl’s witty banter they exchange is always a joy to read and this of course, was no exception.

- Was it previously mentioned that Grandpa English was a Weapons Manufacturer or is this a subtle reveal? Jake English’s future properties will also be brandished with a similar logo, him wearing his spectacles instead of a hat. Very cool callback all the same!

- Very expected but nonetheless a highly anticipated spin on the Retrieve Arms joke.

- Does this imply that Grandpa English used to play Guitar back in the day?

- The White Carapacians are referred to as “fair”?? Interesting revelation... Also AR’s infatuation with PM is cute.

- John giving Jade the present but in the PAST is such a cool concept. John giving Jade the blue shirt in a meta sense is just a retcon but in canon is it because of how much he loves her that he’s willing to give up his signature color?? John being the start of his entire friend group unknowingly and Jade’s hobbies, this present being how Jade befriends all of her friends in the future, and I presume the start of her foresight abilities.. Hussie you're a creative genius and I love you.

- My favorite Panel!

- This reading was very dense and most panels are put higher up the list for context alone, so it was very hard to choose. Page 1147 won, mostly for its stand alone visual appeal, this panel is just REALLY pretty, similar feel to Rose descending to the Lab panels, very cool...

- THE PAIRING OF JOHN / JADE AND ROSE / DAVE IN THESE LAST PAGES OF ACT 3 JUST BUILDING THEIR SIBLING RELATIONSHIPS. Dave and Rose play so hard into these facades and together they can go on and on with a bit unwaveringly, they play off each other in a way solely unique to them. Also Dave is finally done being a little shit about Sburb and finally installed the damn game only when Rose’s house is LITERALLY on fire. It would probably make for a cool flash tho... hehe.

- My favorite Flash!

[S] Enter.

One of the coolest flashes, I'd argue, in Homestuck’s entirety. Every kid gets their moment to shine. I couldn't do it justice by highlighting each moment, you really should check out the Flash for yourself, but nonetheless, I shall attempt to describe the amazing flash that is [S] Enter. The flash, simply put, is Dave getting Rose into Sburb. Starting off the music knocks it out of the park, fast paced complex and perfectly fitting, also engraved in my head because I used this song for my fancomic. The Sburb loading screen is iconic, a complex ever changing spirograph overlayed over psychedelic visuals. How relaxed Rose and Dave are as Sburb loads cracks me up, these kids can never just freak out about dire circumstances, huh? Rose resting her head on her cheek while Dave sips some apple juice and doodles Hella Jeff. ( Dave making the image quality worse is such a funny bit and is a great visual. ) Jade has her moment in her temple thingy, not gonna lie I still have no idea what's REALLY going on with her atm. ( She somehow got Dave’s copies of Sburb sent to her on what I ASSUME is a transportilzer. ) Dave so shittly placing Rose’s Sburb items so inconveniently around her house, yet in the grand scheme of things just right. I enjoyed the call back to John cursing Dave’s name; STRIIIIIIDEEEERRRRRRRR!!!!! Nanna writing her note to John while John absolutely kills it in the battlefield and makes it through the first gate just in time.

- LOWAS!!!! Very excited for John's planet shenanigans. Honestly, the only part of Homestuck I directly skipped was his mini game with the Salamanders, and vaguely glossing over the world building of LOWAS, which i solemnly swear not to do INTENTIONALLY this time, hehe.

- Dersite Jack and Dad Egbert shenanigans.. Eek!

- I love how each character has a shtick, an easily identifiable affinity or trait. It is a very good starting point to build off of. All of the Beta kids have personality based shticks, the trolls have internet tropes and the exiles have job based values, being mayor/democracy, mail women/dedication(??) and gunsmen (??) justice.

- love that Bec’s so protective of Jade that he won’t let PM get to her via subliminal messages.

- Roxy’s tea set saddens me deeply, her true self, no shtick, no backhanded meaning hidden in sardonic sarcasm. I’m eager for Rose to realize this aspect of her mother, I frankly don't remember it.

- I wonder if Roxy’s “Little Girl’s Room” is where she sleeps, like her actual room? Does she not have an actual room in the house? Does Rose wonder about this? Is this a mystery like Dad Egbert’s room?

- I love Jade’s snark she has with her Grandpa. I feel like Rose trying to psychoanalyze why that is hehe! But nonetheless, Jade acts annoyed and aloof because that lets her interact with her Grandpa again in a way, keeping his spirit alive, even if negatively.

- All the mutant kitties are so cute dawg, i'm actually losing it.

- Small aside! Jade’s island is soso pretty.

- My favorite Panel!

The movement in the early panels is just so fast and well timed. So perfectly in a way that you can't look away from. The visual of Bec’s visible draw, his aura is so cool. Jade is also really well drawn here, she just looks absolutely adorable,

- The big reveal hasn't even hit John yet but the confusion and approaching frustration and sorrow is evident on his face. I’m not ready for this.. adequately bracing myself. I am attached to this comic a normal amount by the way. (/j)

- The framed picture of John, with playing cards and harry anderson things attributed to him, along with one of Jane’s detective posters!! Ugh my heart.

- I love this page and concept alot, for numerous reasons. First of all John’s visual of what he envisions his dad’s job as is just PLAIN hilarious, a busking clown? That's actually comedy gold. I also relate this line of thinking John displays here, just following assumptions you make in your head, never asking follow up questions, I feel and act the same towards my parents in some regards quite frequently. The Beta kids and their relationships with their Guardians are tragic. They get stuck up in their ways, a status quo, never straying from it, but Sburb disrupts this. Their separation from their Guardians, highlighting Rose and John for this, lets them reflect on that status quo, leading them to wonder why they didn't appreciate or try to spend more time with them while they still could. The Beta kids have a theme of too little too late with their Guardians. It's poetically tragic.

- John’s Dad can lift a whole safe?? Dad Egbert the man you are... *Tugs at collar* This also adds context to the expectation that Jane could lift a fridge lmao.

- Ok but who’s white ass fingers are those? Sure as hell ain't Hussie’s. A self insert presumed white reader perhaps?

- Nothing much too note. Just a good bit.

- Big fan of the little quirks sprinkled here and there by Hussie that humanize the kids.

- DAD EGBERT GOT JOHN A LITTLE SUIT FOR HIS BIRTHDAY AWUH. A telltale sign of a young gentleman! Imagine John putting on the suit, do you think it was bittersweet? John looking back on fond fatherly moments such as being taught how to properly cuff your sleeves? Tie your tie? Flat iron your fresh new suit?

- Not John having two mental breaks back to back. I remember the Betty Croker freakout being farther out. My poor boy. Also the Gusher names in [S] John: Mental breakdown. are funny as hell. There’s too many to spotlight so just go watch it yourself.

- My favorite Flash!

Bec’s powers are so well showcased and displayed here, adds so much mysticism to him aswell as making him look sooo cool!! The score as usual is amazing and the visuals are soso good. Knocked it out of the park!

- An answer to my previous query! ( If Mom Lalonde has a room in the house. ) Do you think her reluctance to be melodramatic about the revelation has to do with being aware of John’s similar situation with his Father’s room? If she didn’t know someone in the same mysterious parental room situation would she have given it more thought?

- Act 3: The Jade Act!

- She’s finally here and I couldn't be happier! Reading her first read got me more engaged because it was just such a joy to read and because of its formula breaking nature, which I was growing tired of. O_O;

- Ok so Jade’s WARDROBIFIER... a concept i never really grasped. Alot of Fanfics/Fancomics utilize this machine. I will try my best to understand it ( if they explain it at all or i shall go research because this has bothered me for a WHILE lol. )

- I absolutely aDORE Jade’s Squiddle Tangle Buddies btw and am investing in buying my own in the hope to be in the near future.

- Jade disliking Fursuits? Ok hussie projecting because i do NOT believe that for a second!!!! I personally can’t stand page 802, I believe it's also just a product of its time however, so I let it slide. Sigh.

- “NOT EXACTLY. This is its reply when you ask if it is your friend John's birthday today. See? Stupid!” You can tell Hussie was starting to evolve the story much more by this point, it’s written with more foresight and foreshadowing and i really enjoy details like this!! because it's TECHNICALLY John’s Birthday in the sense he was made that day, in reality he was ecto-biologized that day, not birthed!

- I kid you not when I say I watch this Flash regularly, I love it SO much. I love that all the kids are musically talented and collaborate together. I love imagining how it would go down, John and Dave’s is perfectly understandable to how they fit together John’s elegant piano playing paired jankly to Dave's turntable beats, Rose and Dave’s collab could be dubbed as “ironically shitty”, and how Dave’s and Jade’s is the only perfectly cohesive because Dave always gives into Jades antics, playing down his irony douchebag stick for her because she’s just too sweet, so Dave’s willing to play along and sync perfectly with her, very sweet :3.

- My favorite Flash!

The midnight crew!!!! Such a good track, I love the smooth Jazz ( i’m PRETTY sure that would count as Jazz.. uhhhh ) The visuals as usual are so good, I love all of the Midnight Crews little title cards along with what i'm pretty sure are Problem Sleuth references?? Intermission must be soon... It has my full attention this time, and I'm honestly very excited.

- Just went on a dive to find the Fur Affinity account Jade had a tab open for, there’s no submissions of Fur Affinity anymore ( although all the comments mention Jade ) but there is on Deviant art. Maybe the original poster took it down because of the influx of Homestucks? What a mystery...

- I like the detail that every strife we see adds new action options, however options such as abuse, accuse and assault that comes with Dave’s strife are upsetting me to say the least.

- Small aside I love Jade’s way of texting, i find it really relatable and charming, she's so expressive! Big fan of her <3’s!!!!

- Rose’s panels of her descending to and being in her Mom’s lab are really pretty, I love Mom lalonde ( /Roxy’s ) color palette of pinks with an accent color of green, and Rose compliments that really well!

- Love the implication that Jade has a reminder for John getting his ass absolutely beat?? The song pairs so well with the fast paced fight scene it's such a joy to watch, John's expression the way he’s so easily tossed around with nanna on healing job and I love how John just absorbs the cookies?? A joy to watch!!!!

- John’s FAQS!! I like that John is a little more aware about who’s ACTUALLY reading the FAQS ( in-universe ) in contrast to Rose who writes her lengthy blurbs, not caring if anyone reads them but still puts extensive detail anyway. ( which pays off in such a cool way!! When a certain fashionable sapphic alien finds her posts... hehe! ) I love John’s dorky and incredibly charming way of writing, with some hit lines such as BLANK

I just like the lingo they all use ( and unintentional things such as John being a Grandpa in the Alpha universe, so I equate him with that old fashioned charm at times, hehe! ) along with his AMAZING ascii art??

I adore Homestuck’s art, panels like this which are breathtaking and just so rich and complex, i'm an especially big fan of panels that zoom out just to reveal more complexity and depth.. god just so cool.

- Grandpa English is the epitome of the Male Interior Design joke because... just look at this.

- I LOVE the detail of all the descending floors being the Aplha kid colors...

- My favorite Pesterlog!

I was fighting myself over this Pesterlog or page 885 with Nanna and John. ( Really sweet and i love just how well they play off eachother Hussie just has an amazing ability with how he writes his characters. ) I, of course, had to pick Karkat’s iconic opening lines however. It’s short and so sweet, with little details like the time being 13:04. Karkat’s pesterlog is such a change of pace and tone, absolutely littered with foreshadowing, it's just so cool. God I love Homestuck so much :3.

- ROSE’S APATHY STICK IS KILLING ME “Great, you just vaporized your dead cat. Oh well. Ashes to ashes you guess.” YOU CAN CARE A LIITTTLLE MORE GIRL OMG LMAO??

First of all, Explore by Micheal Guy Bowman is a great track. Secouldny, PM is here!!!!!! AR soon.. :DD. As usual i didn't pay attention to them, so I will properly engage with them this time :3. Dave’s flashes are coming soon which I am really excited for aswell. Dad and Mom both get moments here as well, Dad Egbert being a gentlemanly badass, i love him so, aswell the reveal that Mom Lalonde knows more than we thought, having the Skaianet Spirograph near her house and opening a gate to help Rose along her journey, ( which is the start of the arc of what Rose will learn later on. ( Most of this is just my interpretation really btw... ) Mom Lalonde secretly knew what Rose’s destiny was and acted like a ditzy wino to cope. She was patient with her Rose, genuinely loving her in her own way despite her flaws. She was always just waiting for the day she could help Rose in her quest to save the world, waiting for Rose to catch up. Lastly, I heard that the exiles just being the meteor site next to Beta kid’s houses was a really big reveal back in the day which people were very excited about!! That sweetens this moment for me.

- If you're following the running theme I've laid out in my last blog posts, you'll find it in my first ( and only ) Homestuck read. I did not care all that much about the nitty gritty details of Homestuck so I let such things as the Sylladex Deck stuff fly over my head, which is kind of happening now, aswell, although actively being engaged with those portions DO help. The only thing I took away from Dave’s Sylladex on my first read was its mathematical value, I only just now learned it also has to do with rapping, cool kid stuff ( and also fits with Dirk’s Sylladex, cool detail :D! ) the vowels and constants being numbered and math stuff happens. I now understand his Sylladex in a more base level sense which is honestly good enough for me, because I can never really appreciate the computer science humor of it all in the first place.. Lol.

John Sleep and Wake both have really good scores ( Aswell as all the Ost hehe ) just encapsulates the dream feel so well. I enjoy the visuals alot aswell, the colors are very cohesive and overall pretty! I overthink things in a way that I don't like that Jade shows up purely for the canon implications, I like the fanservice of teasing Jade’s design of course along with her messaging John right after his dream. I just have soo many questions of how John visualizes her without knowing what she looks like.

I enjoy how realistic John’s journey to being a skilled fighter is. Despite how much we forget the beta kids are just that, KIDS. So when John pulls out this huge hammer ( given probably not accurately in scale, being displayed in sprite mode lol ) it thuds to the ground and pulls him back with it, completely breaking the hammer. I like the contrast of John vs the other beta kids. In Homestuck, a shit ton of stuff happens when you turn 13. Which John of course only recently has. The contrast in ages manifests itself in cool ways such as the other kids having their weapons, and being skilled with them off the bat. Aswell as less tangible changes such as coming into themselves, in a roundabout, backwards sort of way. Being that they all put up a front, Rose with intelligence, Dave with Irony and Jade with Mysterious Foresight. In contrast to this, John is not caught up to speed with this, making him genuine and very charming in an immature and naive way unique to him!

With Homestuck’s huge cast of characters, it's hard to really give each dynamic and relationship the love they really deserve, and I think Jade and Rose's friendship is overlooked and just generally really sweet. They have little connections that are fun to ponder, such as their thoughts on Squiddles, Rose’s distaste ( that you can presume didn't use to be the case ) in contrast to Jade’s love of the fransize, how would they react if they both realize they have this in common? Would Rose make remarks that would deter Jade from talking about it any further or would Jade talk about her perception of the show and change Rose's mind all together? Just fun things to think about!!

As previously mentioned, I am just a big fan of how the John freak out sprites look. I adoorde the fast frame-rate of panels like these, just pure eye candy, imo.

- Dave’s rant about irony on page 448 “profound humorous irony” how Dave is starting to confuse his Bro’s puppet obsession as sincere vs ironic. No matter if the puppets are starting to freak him out, he still regards his Bro as cool, and strives to be cool as him one day. Just really good writing on Hussie’s part, I forgot how straight ( ...no pun intended. ) Dave’s character was played, indulging in fandom interpretations always skews my memory of canon haha.

- Not 100% sure if this is an intentional callback, but I enjoy the resemblance nonetheless. ( Sidenote, i am not a fan of the Homestuck art style downgrade, what the fandom dubs as “bean style” i miss the thin line art, geometric dynamic panels of early act homestuck. I understand WHY it's like this of course, factors like convenience and it accounts for more colors.. but still, not a huge fan. )

- “when your guard is down, it all seems just a tad unsettling to you.”

DAVE... GET OUT OF THAT DAMN HOUSE I'M GOING TO LOSE IT. The repercussions, the trauma of living in a household like this, living with Bro, and how Dave justifies it all with a front of irony and admiration, John, unknowingly, is breaking that reality. Just interesting stuff I love thinking about. I appreciate how people focus on Dave and John's pesterlogs where Dave talks about his homelife with John, and John calls out how weird it all is and coincidentally sets Dave straight. In a way, the beta kids don’t take Dave's abuse as seriously as they should, but of course, they're all still kids. With all the fronts the kids have up, Dave with his bits and irony, why would you really believe his subtle discomfort, cries for help, are nothing more than a joke? I really enjoy John and Dave’s friendship in this aspect. John is the only kid not going along with some bit or putting up a front, he’s completely genuine. John, unlike Rose, who makes a sarcastic bit about being a therapist not totally taking Dave seriously, seeing his hints at his discomfort as Dave distracted from the task at hand and doing a ironic bit as well, does not take Dave’s situation like a joke and properly calls out how weird it all is, telling Dave his Bro isn’t all that cool, which is the necessary shakedown that Dave need to realize for himself. ( If any points in this rant seem redundant, my apologies! )

- For some reason no one talks about the Mayor's influence on John's psyche. I, for one, think it’s a very interesting topic. “For some reason you feel a sense of positive reinforcement. Wherever that feeling is coming from, it sure is a welcome change from your erratic moods earlier.” John perceives the Mayor’s typed commands as his own thoughts, which is bound to have atleast a few bad repercussions, don't you think? Also his reactions to said intrusive thoughts that made him go into some form of a meltdown/shutdown, i just think it's interesting and should be brought up more!

- Gonna be honest, like most first time readers I did not care to read the GameFAQS. ( And for some reason I didn’t read GameBro either… I was, embarrassingly enough, REALLY eager to just get to the trolls. I’ve definitely had my fill of trolls by now!! Time to delve in the beta kids :D ) I enjoy Rose’s all knowing persona, acting snarky with lines such as “If you want to live, you will do as i instruct.”

- Wayward Vagabond is here!!!! I need them to read that Human etiquette book faster.. because oh my god John is already under so much stress and im dreading the start of his like nonverbal meltdowns because i just want to calm him down and comfort him BUT I CAN’T. The panels of John just shaking his head after getting the most dangerous commands is making my heart ache.

Playing [S] YOU THERE. BOY. and John's immediate concern for his Dad is heartbreaking. He keeps asking “where’s my Dad” here and there and looking back on his interactions with his Dad that he used to outright avoid or begrudgingly play along, with retrospect, with a fondness that only foreshadows the worst.

The biggest mystery in all of homestuck... what did Dad Egbert do to get himself banned from Cirque Du Soleil?

- This observation is made much more thoroughly in the podcast: Homestuck With my Mother. ( Which i highly recommend ) I absolutely adore how Dave ( as well as every kid is written so far, this statement redundant but i do not care in the slightest ) is written, his best bro is telling him that he’s in an incredibly dangerous timed apocalypse situation and despite that Dave just starts rapping. I love how not seriously Dave is taking it all, not believing John and not even wanting to play Sburb, it's realistic for a character like Dave, because it's much more plausible for John to be making all this shit up.

- My favorite Pesterlog!

I love Jade’s love for her friends, with foresight she knew she was always going to be friends with these silly kids since a young age, so she loves them SO much, she appreciates all their little quirks, and plays off every kid in such a unique way and you can tell how much she really cares for her friends. Jades blind faith in John, as he explains his situation, the way she listens and puts a positive spin on it! The way she puts a positive spin of Dave being an unhelpful prick by calling him silly!!!! I strive to be like Jade to my friends, she's just so wonderful :D

- It was a close call between this panel, page 264 ( aswell as any similar panel of John being expressive in sprite mode, shaking his head aggressively or just plain screaming ) and page 340 ( I just like that the thin lined art expression art of the early acts shows itself in Dave too, very charming! ) Anywho! Dave’s introductory panel is a jumpscare of sorts. His visual introduction in the story completely changes the pacing, story and timeline wise and I think having him spontaneously appear is a nice choice.

- In case you haven't made this assumption, i read a baseline level of homestuck, i didn't really bother with fully paying attention to the GameFAQS, GAMEBRO or anything of the sort. I have full intentions to do so this reread, very excited for midnight crew / intermission shenanigans! :D

It was a close call between this panel and page 145, where Rose tries to select John and he just FREAKS OUT. There’s just SO much going on here and I really enjoy taking it all in. Dad Egbert centered panels is going to be a short lived theme in these liveblogs btw, I am very fond of the gentlemen.

- Dave calling Rose a flighty broad and Rose calling Dave an insufferable prick.. foreshadowing my beloved.. Strilondes how i love you.

- I didn’t remember Rose so outwardly expressing her distaste for her mother! This really is building me up for Rose’s grimdark speech, looking at her relationship with her mother in retrospect, realizing all too late that her mother was trying genuinely to connect and bond with her daughter, instead of everything being backhanded. I just love the early act’s character building, and of course Andrew Hussie’s ability to write in the voices of said characters in a way that encapsulates their essence perfectly. Hussie’s writing always has me chuckling or smiling at every page, truly a man of many words.

Side Note: I'm reading a Homestuck mirror on MSPFA, because the recommended site from the unofficial homestuck collection just WON’T load for me. - Act 1 is nothing if not dense, littered with coding and computer science jokes and gargan which flies over the average reader's head, but man is the writing witty. It bums me out that the early act writing isn't appreciated for its simplistic hilarity.

- John’s such a dick of a teen boy, he’s mean but so obviously well-meaning, I love him so much man, he’s literally JUST adorable.

As much as I enjoy Dave and John’s witty banter in Dave’s introduction, John's first pesterlog with Rose really takes the cake for me. I enjoy the snark and how Rose clocks him immediately, just such a cute interaction.

Panel 97 is really funny to me. I like that John's urgency to leave is downplayed so heavily by his nonchalant ass sprite. I like how his Dad isn’t batting even the smoke that hard, his arms are barely out or up, it’s just a really funny visual I enjoy immensely.
