dead boy detectives reading list
with the show finally out i figured it was a great time to share my reading list again! check it out below the cut 👻☠️🔎
-
⏳ the sandman #25 (1991)
this is their first appearance!
🐇 the children's crusade (1993)/free country: a tale of the children's crusade (2015)
1. the children's crusade #1
(2. black orchid annual #1
3. animal man annual #1
4. swamp thing annual #7
5. doom patrol annual #2
6. arcana annual #1)
7. the children's crusade #2
alternatively you can just read free country. whether or not you read the annuals i recommend reading free country's middle chapter
!!! in place of the annuals there is an additional middle chapter that was created for the book "free country: a tale of the children's crusade" where it is placed between the two children's crusade issues. the boys don't actually appear in most of the annuals (they are in two panels of swamp thing and appear in doom patrol) and reading them isn't necessary but i figured i would include them as they are part of the story.
❄️ winter's edge #3 (2000)
this is an anthology. their part is the 'books of magic: waiting for good dough' story starting on page 19
🐦⬛ the sandman presents: the dead boy detectives (2001, 4 issues)
i believe the tv show's esther finch was partially based on this run's villain.
*
(they do have a part in 'death: at death's door' from 2003. it's short and really just a retelling of events from sandman #25 with some minor changes. the entirety of their appearance in death: at death's door is included at the end of the next comic im listing so i am not really adding the death: at death's door book to the list)
☠️ the dead boy detectives (2005, one-shot)
this book was made by jill thompson in a very cute manga-esque style
👻 ghosts (2012), time warp (2013), the witching hour (2013)
these three are anthologies. the story 'the dead boy detectives in: run ragged' runs through all of them. 'run ragged' kicks off the next run.
🔮 from the pages of the sandman: dead boy detectives (2013, 12 issues)
this is the comic where crystal is introduced! a book collecting all 12 issues titled 'dead boy detectives by toby litt & mark buckingham' was released in 2023
🔎the sandman universe: dead boy detectives (2022, 6 issues)
the most recent run, centered around some really interesting thai mythology and featuring multiple edwin moments that i am sure you will love
-
and that's everything! i also recommend buying the omnibus if you can. it includes everything minus the 2022 run plus some additional bonus content!
i hope this is helpful! feel free to ask me any questions you may have about the comics. dead boy detectives is my number one interest so i should be able to answer
have fun reading! 👻

D&D Stats Explained with Tomatoes
mindchildofmadness submits:
Strength is being able to crush a tomato.
Dexterity is being able to dodge a tomato.
Constitution is being able to eat a bad tomato.
Intelligence is knowing a tomato is a fruit.
Wisdom is knowing not to put a tomato in a fruit salad.
Charisma is being able to sell a tomato based fruit salad.

I might've added the BG3 Art Book to my dnd assets stash
It' 100% does not have things like the 5e players' handbook + 5e’s character sheet, several gm guides, critical role's explorer's guide to wildmount, baldur's gate and waterdeep city encounters, 101 potions and their effects, volo's guide to monsters, both of xanathar's guides, a bunch of other encounters, one shots, and class builds
In no way are there any pdf’s relating to any wizard who may or may not be residing on any coast
(Edit that I’ve moved the folder to the new link above! So if you catch a different version of this post that link won’t work anymore!)

How do I explain to my friends that I get a little uncomfortable when they make constant jokes and references about sex. Like some is fine but it’s like every conversation has to have some sort of sexual joke in it. I’m not trying to be a priss or killjoy but I am just getting tired of the consistent vulgarity.

Like the sun
I hate you like I hate the sun
You’re entirely too bright and too warm
Sometimes I can’t look at you
because it hurts
When I am with you too long
I start to hurt
But You are so full of life and passion
I can’t help but to stare
I love you like I love the sun
You make me feel warm
I love when you are around me
And I hate when you’re not
I want to lay around and be with you
Even when it is too much for me
Because you are so full of life and passion
I can’t help but to stare

pink and green frog-themed AO3 site skin
This one was frustrating at some points but mostly it was just a good time. If you'd like to try it out, I've posted the code (and instructions for how to implement a skin on your AO3 account) here.

Man, I just finished season one of Paraiso(Paradise) on HBO Max and why is there no other content for it. I’m hyper-fixating on it and there is nothing anywhere. It’s actually so good and severely underrated.

if you love stranger things you need to hear me out on this one…
so we have about a year to wait for next season, and during these trying times i am here to offer a hand. if you love stranger things (which if you are here reading this we both know you do) i URGE you to go watch Paraíso (Paradise) on HBO max if you can. it’s a spanish series with a very similar plot to st. basically, a group of three girls went missing after attending this pub named paradise and it’s been three months since no answers have been found about their location. what it’s even odder though it’s the fact that this only adds to a series of missing people who all have gone missing in groups of three in this town, something no one can explain. now, the brother of one of the girls along with his friends are trying to find answers as to what happened that night, and they stumble to what seems to be a supernatural hidden spot in said pub with many secrets and some people who will do what they can to keep those secrets buried. did i also mention the series takes place during the 90’s? that the group of friends are ride or die for each other? that (from what i’ve heard) there’s an official queer couple? and if you are the type of people who don’t like watching series in other languages (though i highly recommend watch this one in spanish with subtitles bc it adds to the experience) the series is dubbed in english.
now, i can only speak for the first episode because i just finished and it was SO DAMN GOOD!! it was gripping and kept my attention at all times, i liked the characters and the struggles they are going through, the different relationships they show between family, friends, and love interests. i am so HOOKED with the mystery of this place called Paradise. the show so far has two seasons each of seven chapters if i’m not wrong, so i have a long way to go and things could go downhill. HOWEVER first chapter gave me that feeling i got when i watched all of st, that feeling of “oh this is gonna be such a good show i’m so excited for the next episode i need to know what happens next with this mystery and these characters”, so i thought i would come here and put it on your radar if it wasn’t yet.
