The glowing eyes that haunt you
I know all their names and stories.
We watched the skies together,
their toothy maws whispering words of comfort:
“Just let me be upfront, little one:
one by one we will face the scarlet gong's call
to devour and race
and choose what piece someone else's mistake is going to paint
out of us – our palms or our hearts or our face.
And what if they say 'here is a stack of hay, mind you, it's just a picture,
go find the needle or be our prey'.
And it's addictive
to crawl when walkers turned ash and embers. Takes a toll.
Do, however, remember:
see no evil, hear no evil but the birch trees know it all”
