jaebum expected to be thrown in the thicket the moment he got back into nova. he had been anticipating the immense training and the exasperated breaths that came from dancing for hours and hours on end -- on the other hand, he didn’t only anticipate it, he welcome the ideas once again.

he valued working in pairs more than anything though -- it’s probably the extrovert in him talking, but it was always more fun for him to work with someone with a different perspective, different style of dancing than him. and his partner this session is none other than sunny, someone who he’s met briefly and knew she was a trainee as well, and an excellent conversationalist to boot, if he remembers correctly. “hi, east coast nuna.” he waves his hand casually. “i’ve been back for like a month or something. i would say cumulative time, but i don’t think my brain can handle trying to compute that, to be completely honest.” a bright laugh escapes his lips. “of course i remember you! i remember everyone i meet, it’s a really important skill to have, y’know.”

sometimes her instructors do things that sunny doesn’t expect, and this time is no different.  pairing up in practice isn’t something that’s out of the ordinary, but the sight of who she’s paired up with is – she knows that she’s seen this face before, not in nova but somewhere once upon a time.  the very thought of it has her thrown – she hadn’t expected to meet up with anyone that she’s only barely met before, least of all in nova.  but things have a way of surprising you, and it’s a smile that makes its way to her lips as recognition slowly dawns on seeing him.  

she approaches with quiet steps and a smile, wondering if he’d even recognize her too – after all, they only met once briefly while they were out buying movies.  sunny just has a good memory for faces, a good memory for people really – a social butterfly through and through, the skill makes it easy for her to make new friends in a breeze.  a quick tap on the shoulder for attention and sunny’s eyes curve into crescents, words tumbling from her lips.  “ fancy meeting you here, west coast.  how long have you been at nova now?” her brow raises with the question, genuine warmth colouring her voice. “ it’s been a long time – not sure if you’d remember me, but it’s still nice seeing a familiar face again.”

jaebum missed early morning breakfast time at nova -- he missed the smell of eggs, bacon, and all the typical and traditional breakfast foods, along with the smell of greens and fruits. he missed the dull chatter of the cafeteria, where everyone is either too involved with their food or just generally too tired to speak as loudly and as clearly as they would like to. most of all, he missed the company of his former and now, once again, coworkers -- their smiles, laughs, the conversations they would have during breaks in the practice room, during this down time in the cafeteria.

initially coming into the company, jaebum had always looked towards one person that he can count on to bring him a good conversation and tons of smiles -- his former partner on his season of the mgas, rome. he thinks rome deserves immense praise for attempting to give up his place in sphere for him, but once jaebum got into nova, he was excited to finally work together with him as official trainees. his leave of absence, however, hindered that chance. but a familiar voice graces his ears, and he turns with wide eyes to an embrace from rome, an embrace that he quickly returns, equally as excited. “hyung!! oh my god, i’ve missed you!” he laughs a little in disbelief at this situation at hand. “i’m truly, truly back in nova! i gotchu, hyung, i gotchu!”

brighter than the sun

It’s been a while since he arrived early enough at Nova to eat breakfast and actually go. For weeks, he’d been content with eating at Jihyun’s place before heading out. His mornings are bright enough the way they’ve been and he had no plans of changing it but he’s up earlier these days for practice, the new evaluation motivating him to come early and stay late. A new song, new choreography, and the constant nagging in the back of his mind to improve on a daily basis make for a chipper Nova trainee with too much energy on his hands for early morning. Scanning the cafeteria for someone to hopefully join in on his excessive exuberance, he catches sight of a person he’s always happy to see but surprises him because it’s Nova. 

Jaebum was the first person he looked on his first day of official training. As soon as he got the contract offer, he was excited to follow through on his promise. They’d perform together again someday, be on the same stage one more time and more to follow. The disappointment and gloom state he fell into when he found out Jaebum had left not too long before he joined still popped up every now and then. It wouldn’t need to anymore if his guess is right as he goes bounding towards the younger male, embracing him without any warning. His joyous greeting will have to do for now along with the big question, “are you really here? JB, are you back in Nova? Bro, if you’re not, you’re gonna break my heart.”

thank you for always putting got7 first, being the team’s pillar of strength and leading them to success. you’re so talented, passionate, hard working and just an amazing person overall. you, along with got7, have accomplished so much this year and we couldn’t be more proud. keep shining like the star that you are and have an even better 2016. always be happy and never stop smiling. we’ll always love and support you no matter what.

i hope your day is filled with happiness and that all your wishes come true because you deserve everything and more. i can’t even put into words how much you mean to me, but just know that i love you to the moon and back. ♥

jaebum loves animals.

he truly does -- if he could be surrounded by animals 24/7, he would do it. he doesn’t mind that the fur gets on his jeans, that wet doggie kisses sometimes smell, that cats sometimes throw up their hairballs on his lap.

just his luck, he supposes.

but he thinks he could have been a puppy in a past life -- and he’s not kidding at all. he’s dead serious.

but cats have a special, warm place in his heart -- his family has been cat people for as long as he could remember, and his mother even brought her cat from hawaii when they moved to korea initially, a cat that he loves very, very much actually and that he loves dearly.

so when he found out there was a kitty cafe near his new place, he flipped out, basically almost had a mental breakdown. he’s been going there frequently ever since he found out about it a few months ago.

he’s been going there so frequently that he’s now considered a regular, and a lot of the cafe staff now know him as the smiley, red-headed boy who sometimes gets a little too emotional over cats. he doesn’t mind the title, though -- and the staff know it as well.

he walks in with a small smile and bows to momo, a waitress that he’s especially been into close contact with ever since he started going to the cafe.

jaebum’s passion has always been singing.

ever since he was a little boy back in the tropical sun of honolulu, he’s been humming rhythms, developing his skills as a vocal entertainer as soon as he could speak. he remembers performing for his mother in their quaint island cottage’s living room -- the proud smile on her face egged him on, kept his momentum going, and has been the main motivation for his continuation of the pursuit of stardom from his voice.

he wants to be able to evoke emotions into other people merely from his vocal ability, and in his humble opinion, he’s getting there, as he definitely has made an impact on others from his voice.

he’s extremely thankful that he can share his experience as a singer unto others now as well, being one of the newer teachers at a private vocal tutor in hongdae, right near nova -- convenience and whatnot. his hours had to change due to his trainee status ( of course he had to make his boss and co-workers swear to secrecy of his status ) to weekends, but it’s definitely not that bad.

“ok, are you ready to get started?” he inquires onto his newest student with bright eyes and a confident smile.

he’s been waiting for this day.

he’s been waiting to come back, to enter through the threshold that he had once left momentarily out into his brief moment of uncertainty, unhappiness, anything that didn’t symbolize his persona at all. jaebum feels like he hasn’t been himself as of late, the once cheery and absolutely effervescent individual that people have come to cherish, come to love even --

until now, of course.

and he’s greeted by a very familiar voice, a voice that he immediately recognizes, a voice that brings his signature grin across his face.

“yeeeaup! it’s me, alright! i’m back, i’m back~”

It was that time again and Yerin was not ready at all for it because she still didn’t fully know the current trainees and then just as she wanted to make it a thing, to know the trainee’s or at least their faces. Yerin was happy with the new trainee’s but she was bummed because it meant more people to know in a little amount of time. A part of her felt like her trainee time was running out and she needed to get to know people as fast as she could.

That was when she saw a face and she immediately turned her head, him she knew. “Im Jaebum!” she almost yelled, something that would make anyone turn because Baek Yerin never yelled at anything or anyone. However this one she felt she had to raise her voice at, was it really him. “Is that you Jaebum ah?”

headcanon !

jaebum is now officially romantically involved with jackson, his longtime roommate and friend ( aka xrkjacksxn, who was played by song jieun and shin jimin’s mun, jen ). jackson got jaebum a ring to commemorate their official status as a couple, and jaebum now wears the couple ring occasionally -- he wears his ring with a few other rings whenever he wants to wear it just to divert attention from the one ring that would be on his finger if he didn’t stack rings on his fingers.

also, jackson still lives with jaebum, and will be a frequent npc for jaebum -- most of the couple things they do will be documented only on aim but sometimes will be brought here in solos and whatnot.

his whole world stops.

everything freezes; no movement, no sound, not even one breath.

welcome back to nova, he had heard, don’t screw this up this time, jaebum-ah. this is a miracle that we’re actually letting you back in -- your audition was phenomenal, however, and we sensed you weren’t going to give up until you came back.

now here you are.

i won’t mess this up again, i promise! he exclaimed, crimson locks moving freely under nervous, excited fingertips -- his heart pumps a million, no, a billion miles a minute. he realizes that not only has he done this once, he’s done this twice.

twice shouldn’t have happened, though -- there shouldn’t have been a falling out, there shouldn’t have been a break in between. but he supposes in that break, he’s grown so much more, he’s readied himself even more.

but he also acknowledges the fact that he’s way from ready, that he’s no where near as mature and skilled to debut -- they’re not going to give him that debut out of the blue just because he’s been through this another time, just because he’s been acclimated to this process once before. no, this is just a milestone -- a milestone that, in his opinion, should have never happened, but such is life, he supposes.

a milestone nonetheless, however -- a milestone that’s leading him on the right path again, the path that he had once ventured off of for a quick moment.
