statement for assessment 3
For this assessment, I have chosen the same theme as the group assessment-erasure. I did the video which was inspired by Lin Onus’s artwork They Took the Children Away. His work was about the aborigines. The artist called Lin Onus and he ‘reads’ the events and processes of history and inscribes them into the present with an eye to the future for the purposes of conciliation. According the memory of my childhood, I found some similarities with the inspiration. In China, more and more people ignored some traditional culture. Stylish kinds of music instead of Beijing Opera which was regarded as the treasure of China. Nevertheless, it was almost lost in the modern time.
Throughout the process of my idea development, I started to research Peking Opera Facial Mask what is one of necessary parts in opera. It is a pattern of put-on facial make-up for opera actors and actresses in the stereotype roles of “painted face” and clown. Then I drew three different masks by myself. The video recorded the whole process of drawing. I edited it and reverse the video to express the theme of Erasure. I also inserted some patterns about opera as background music. The finished work showed the Beijing Opera from the great days to vanished in people’s memory. We should not forget any history or culture. The purpose of this artwork is reminding people that we should remember the tradition culture and continue to flourish the great art from into a further step.

Experiment 3 for assessment 3
For the final artwork, I was not focus on Chinese knotting. I found that Beijing Opera was almost lost in the modern time. The form was extremely popular in the Qing dynasty court and has come to be regarded as one of the cultural treasures of China. However, during the second half of the 20th century, Peking opera witnessed a steady decline in audience numbers. This has been attributed both to a decrease in performance quality and an inability of the traditional opera form to capture modern life. This artwork’s purpose is reminding people that we should remember the tradition culture and continue to flourish the great art from into a further step.
As one important part of Beijing Opera, Peking Opera Facial Masks is more like mark of actors and actresses. It is a pattern of put-on facial make-up for opera actors and actresses in the stereotype roles of "painted face" and clown. Beijing Opera masks originates from totem in ancient times, develops into facial paintings of the Song and Yuan Dynasties, and eventually takes the shape of facial costume of the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
Then, I drew three different kinds of masks and used the same editing way as the first and the second experiment.
Different from the last video, this video will be more serious and I will insert the fragment of Beijing Opera into the video as the background music. The video is editing now and I have not finished yet.

Experiment 2 for assessment 3
For my second experiment, I made the video with the same editing way. What’s more, this artwork’s theme is as the same as the first one. In order to tell people to cherish this traditional culture. The reverse the video can be closer to ‘Erasure’.
According the weakness of the first video, for this video, I changes another view to watch the drawing and insert some music to make the video vivider. In the first video, I colored the picture with acrylic colors. In the second one, I used the marker pen brushes.

Experiment 1 for assessment 3
I researched some culture lost in China. Chinese knotting is being disappear with time. More and more young people prefer stylish things nor traditional culture. Chinese knotting is a decorative handicraft art that began as a form of Chinese folk art in the Tang and Song dynasty in China. It has real long history. However, the art of Chinese knotting was almost lost.
So I was doing the drawing of Chinese knotting and recorded the process of drawing. Then I edited the video with reversing. The aim of editing is to show the situation of Chinese knotting which was almost lost and we should cherish this culture.

initial idea for Assessment Task 3
My chosen theme is about ‘Erasure’. Erasure is about memory loss. They Took the Children Away was my inspiration. This artwork is about the Aboriginals. The artist called Lin Onus and he 'reads' the events and processes of history and inscribes them into the present with an eye to the future for the purposes of conciliation. I was looking for something which were ignored by people with time flying. I recalled my childhood and researched some history or culture which is forgot by people. It is more about Chinese history/ culture such as Beijing Opera. Because less and less people enjoyed this kind of traditional art. More people are willing to listen the pop music etc. Here is about my initial idea for my assessment 3.
They Took the Children Away, by Lin Onus, 1993

statement for Assessment Task 2
For this group task, we chose erasure as our concept and we were inspired by Robert Rauchenberg’s artwork Erased de Kooning. His work demonstrates the removal of marks of readymade drawing created by Williem de Konning, which he minimised the subject by fully rubbing out the drawing. Our work utilizes erasure as a tool to manipulate the appearance of familiar object. By removing part of the existing building, and replacing it with the similar shaped food, we invited the audience to view these ordinary architects in an entertaining approach. In parallel with Rauchenberg’s artwork Erased de Kooning, which he challenges the conventional methods of creating art, we alters the inherent perspectives of the surrounding environment in our daily lives.
Throughout the process of our idea development, we started by looking around the campus and nearby streets, which triggered us to focused on the unique shape of each building. By arranging several meetings, we came up with the idea to transform these architect into innovative forms, and discussed different ways to combine buildings and food. Editing techniques such as creating layer masks, rubbing out part of photos and trimming clips were shared between members in order to find the most suitable method for the work. The process of rubbing out part of photo also offers possibilities to deconstruct preconceived ideas of an existing form. Finally, we put those images after Photoshop in the video as our time based work. That is all about out art work for Assessment Task 2. Thanks for reading.

process of Assessment Task 2 (1)
During the group work, our theme is about erasure. Erasure can be removed, remake, erase, delete, blank page, deforming and deconstructing. Our understanding of erasure is breaking and remaking the traditional vision for architecture. We visit the construction as ‘foodie’. We are going to combine the architecture and food to be as one.
At first, we have taken the images of COFA, main campus and Darling Harbour. The features of those buildings are similar to one kind of food in the shape. Here are photos what we have taken. We looked around different places.
Then, we were going to find kinds of food which has the similar shape to the buildings.

200 words statement of Assessment Task 1
Yayoi Kusama is one of my favorite artist in Japan. Her trademark of her works is polka points. She has been acknowledged as one of the most important living artists to come out of Japan. At the beginning, I just facsimiled one of artworks called My Heart’s Adobe. People will lose themselves in this work because of the visual effect of hallucinations. I Regarded the box as a piece of drawing paper and drew it directly. However, the picture was without the aesthetic perception in vision. During my second experiment, I decided to transform the picture to three-dimensional work. I built up the work with strings and sticks. They represented rationality and sensibility. Those two different kinds of materials conform to the theme of My Heart’s Adobe. For my final experiment, I added my own experience to my second experiment. I regarded the box as one microworld, maybe it looks like showcase. For me, I was born in China and spent most of time with my grandparents in the village when I was a child. When the autumn is coming, there are many haystacks in the farmland. It was my deep memories in my childhood. Therefore, I used marshmallow which was my favorite candy in the childhood to build up the model. I followed the style of Yayoi Kusama and filled the marshmallow with polka points. Then I colored those marshmallows and settled them in different positions of box. The box is more likely a gallery or showcase, people will lose themselves because of the visual effect and feel homesick when they come into the ‘box microworld’. This is all about my final artwork.

The video is something interesting when I did my final artwork. At the beginning, I needed to color the marshmallow. However, the marshmallow is too small to color by paintbrush. And it is also hard to hand. So I colored my fingers and used fingers to draw it. The process was so interesting and different marshmallow’s color was random and fantastic!!!!!

ASSESSMENT TASK 1
FINAL EXPERIMENT
For my last experiment, I decided to add some own idea to the artwork. I regarded the box as one microworld, maybe it look like showcase. I set up some marshmallow as haystack of Chinese village. I was born in China and I spent most of childhood time with my grandparents in the village. When the autumn is coming, there are many haystack in the farmland. It was my deep memories in my childhood. What’s more, the theme of artwork is about free spirit and homesickness. So I combined this element to the last experiment.
the reason why I chose marshmallow as my material is my favorite candy in my childhood. And marshmallow is easier to cut and shape different shapes in itself. I followed the styles of Yayoi Kusama and drew the marshmallow in sight points.
After drawing, I just need to put them in different positions. That is the final work!

ASSESSMENT TASK 1
Experiment 2
for this work, I tried to transformed 2D to 3D. I used strings and sticks to place the position as the same as the work from Yayoi. the double-side adhesive is used to stable them. the reason of choosing strings and sticks to finish the work is sensibility and reason. the theme of My Heart's Abode is reasonable. the strings represent sense and the sticks represent reason. different kind of materials can show different moods in the artwork.
the box is transformed to an artwork.
for my final experiment, i will try another work with installation art. it is more likely to decorate the whole space. at the same time, the box will be transformed to a space which is similar to ‘microworld’
