on a lighter note I saw the Wicked movie and it thoroughly knocked my socks off
#rambles#asmoris wicked AU when.......#there were a few things I rolled my eyes at; the biggest offender being Big Hollywood Names cast as the Wizard and Morrible#instead of. you know. people who can actually sing and dance without obvious autotune or obvious doubles#and also I think the pacing in the last part during Defying Gravity was really weird. stopping after every single line for five minutes of#dialogue really took away the impact and power the song has#BUT I DIGRESS and thats just me being nitpicky I was actually really surprised by how amazing it was#the sets were like my favorite part so unique so creative and SO MUCH FUN#you can tell when something is made with love for the material and that movie was made with love. I said what I said

I thought if I took a few days to reflect and collect myself I would stop being so upset but ummmm nope. My feelings are still very hurt
#rambles#I just keep thinking like. It obviously wouldn't be very nice if it was anybody else so why am I not given the same consideration#I'm probably being too sensitive but ughhhhh it's still making me feel like complete shit#I'm trying really really hard to just let it go T^T#I've had one too many friends completely abandon me in the past year I can't help but see it as a sign that I'm#not wanted anymore. deep sigh

I've talked about this before (and frankly I could continue to talk about it extensively) but Old Deuteronomy's sections of Moments of Happiness are lifted directly from TS Eliot's poem The Dry Salvages. The Dry Salvages is a particularly depressing poem that was published in the middle of WW2, and it's roughly as much of a downer as you would expect any poetry from that era to be. It dwells quite a bit on concepts like the cyclic and inevitable nature of violence & death, as well as the myth of 'forward progress' coming from a society that seemed to be actively collapsing around itself.
The context of the lines used are a touch different in the show given that they're, you know, kitty cats. But regardless I love how, when prompted with a poem that argues 'nothing has any value, death is inevitable, progress is a delusion, and violence is our only birthright, so what point is there to anything?', Cats responds with, 'Moonlight / Turn your face to the moonlight'.
