#3: The Tryst Kisses (1.02)

The kisses in my Top 3 are something serious, y'all. ❤️‍🔥 Like the best of the best, not just for Richonne but for media imo. Every kiss in my Top 10 is on another level, it's just something about these Top 3 - I don't think any love story in media could top these kiss scenes for me. It's unparalleled heat and passion and love in such a raw, authentic form and captivates like no other. Also, I always love Hungry Richonne, and baby, they're straight-up voracious in this wonderful 1.02 hangar scene that gives us several 🔥 kiss moments...

I of course adore Richonne's 6.10 kisses which are absolutely Top 3 worthy. But this secret rendezvous scene ended up making the Top 3 because it has a few different kiss moments and I felt all of them are so deserving of this highly ranked spot. There's something so sweet & sexy about knowing these two have to keep their marriage a secret in the CRM, but even then that can't stop them from finding a private moment to just douse each other in love between these vehicles.

I love that the hotness begins even before they walk into this place, as Rick makes a beeline to Michonne in his CRM helmet and takes her arm to lead her into this area. Rick was a man with a plan leading into this scene and the plan was not an escape plan just yet but rather a 'ravenously make out with my wife' plan. And well...mission accomplished. 😌

I love that this is the level of energy and intense passion Rick and Michonne both bring to their kisses after being only the second time in front of each other since reuniting. I get why we never saw a scene of the two having to clarify that they haven't moved on or explored other relationships over the years, because they stayed kissing each other in a way that communicated it's always only been them for each other even while apart.

Rick not even waiting for Michonne to confirm the coast is clear before he grabs her, and Michonne instantly reciprocating as she wraps her arms around him - perfect. 👏🏽 Leaning against the vehicle as they make out and Rick protecting Michonne's head with his arm - perfect. 👏🏽 Introducing us to Richonne's penchant for moanversations - perfect. 👏🏽

And then after Rick quickly tells Michonne that the CRM believed her "Dana" act, I adore the way they immediately resume kissing and pulling each other as close as can be like they're trying to morph into one. These kisses really were giving greedy, y'all. 😋 I love that they executed each kiss in a way that made it genuinely feel like Rick and Michonne have gone years starved of each other's kiss and now that they're back in each other's arms they're insatiable and can't get enough of each other.

I also love how Rick was so into it that he's still kissing her even as Michonne turns to acknowledge his missing hand. Then Richonne proceeds to have a really intriguing, touching, and motivating conversation. But of course, this scene wasn't gonna end with talking. No, this great scene ends with a great kiss as Rick eagerly returns to kissing Michonne upon hearing her talk like the A he knows and loves, assuring him they're in here together now and they're going to get home.

Also, I was thinking about it and since the CRM doesn't let in As that means Rick hasn't really been around anybody who truly matches his energy in years since being with his family of As back home. So while Michonne being an A greatly concerned Rick because of what the CRM might do to her, I think at this moment it probably felt good to be back with someone who's got the same A DNA that he does. And not only that - it's his absolute favorite A. No wonder all he can do is respond to her statement with passionate kisses. 😊

I love the continued hunger of those final kisses and the way Rick can just never get enough of Michonne. Once again Michonne is always good at quickly matching the energy and I love how passionately this closing kiss communicates both of their love and devotion. The way they intimately hold each other after too. 🥹 They'd gone so long without their other half and you can just feel how they feel more whole now that they're back together. That missing part of their heart has returned and it's the most natural thing in the world for them to be back to loving each other like this.

What lies ahead of them after this moment is daunting and the uncertainty and overwhelm are evident, especially from Rick - but as they kiss and stay in this embrace, you can feel the transfer of empowered hopeful energy & strength they're giving each other as being together has already slowly but surely begun bringing these soulmates back to life. ♥️

🏆🎊🥳 #1!! 🏆🎊🥳 The winner for my favorite Richonne kiss of all time goes to Richonne's epic reunion kiss. It's gold, it's triple platinum, it's magnetic, it's everything. My goodness, they did their big one with this kiss. 🤩 Our captains always understand the assignment when it comes to Richonne - as evidenced in every single one of the scenes on this Top 30. But the big and highly anticipated assignment of portraying Richonne's first time in front of each other and first real kiss in years was going to have high expectations - and y'all, they aced it to perfection with what they delivered during this Richonne reunion.

This kiss is the definition of a soul kiss. Because truly it feels like this is Richonne's souls interlocking in this moment as they bask in the bliss of finally being reunited with their soulmate. At long last.🥹...

I always say when Rick and Michonne are together the world can wait. And the kiss they had during this reunion took it a step further because truly time stood still. All there was for a moment was Richonne and their love and it was a breathtakingly beautiful thing to behold. The reunion was already so perfectly crafted with the explosive way these two end up in the same vicinity and Michonne taking out soldiers left and right before putting her katana to a masked Rick's neck. And then when they lay eyes on each other for the first time and are hit first with a wave of shock and then a wave of emotions as they realize the love of their life is in front of them. 😭

I love seeing the way they approach each other with tears in their eyes. Those magnets kick in immediately and lead them to have such a heartfelt first embrace - with snow naturally falling and making the moment even more enchanting. Michonne's joyous declaration of "I found you" and Rick nestled into her, receiving warmth like this for the first time in almost a decade just puts a tear in my eye. I love that being a true father through and through, Rick's first words are checking in on Judith. It's precious how happy Michonne is to assure him their baby girl is alive and how relieved he is to hear that. And then it's so sweet how Rick is nervous as he finds the words to assure Michonne that he's not really with these other soldiers and Michonne doesn't hesitate to let him know she already knows.

And then once they've addressed their daughter and Rick's status with these masked folks, it's time for the two to more personally address each other. And I love that they do so with a gorgeous kiss that speaks volumes. You can visibly see Rick become entirely focused on loving on Michonne and he truly leans in like her kiss is the nourishment he's desperately needed for so long. And Michonne's joyous smile as she knows she's about to finally kiss her husband after years of holding onto hope that he was alive from afar. I've said it a lot in these posts but it's just the best way to put it - I love the way they lock in with this kiss. And I love that Richonne didn't have to hesitate or wonder if the other had moved on. All they had to do was look into each other's eyes and know the love of their life was still very much theirs.

It's great how Rick is both hungry for Michonne's kiss and eager to shower her in kisses. And I adore the way Michonne wraps her arms around him and truly conveys that she still has all the love in the world for him. They never stopped loving each other and this kiss assured them both of that. There are 7 kisses within this kiss and y'all know my extra self could write a whole paragraph about each one. I love that they both don't want to stop as they pull each other in close. They so clearly felt alive in this kiss. They'd gone through so much hardship over the years and they'd even just been through some pretty wild stuff mere minutes before, but for this moment all of that faded to the background as they just got to exist in their impeccable love.

After being unwillingly kept apart for so long, they kiss here like they want to be as attached as possible. They kiss like in no time at all, they're back to organically feeling like one intertwined soul. Also, this reunion kiss made it clear that no matter what was in store for Richonne in TOWL, Rick and Michonne were going to figure it out and rise above because their love was still as bright, enduring, and alive as ever. And so long as they have this love they really can overcome anything.

If someone said I have to select just one of Rick and Michonne's kisses to convey the cosmic soulmate level of Richonne to people unfamiliar with them, I'd choose this reunion kiss. It's incredibly romantic, heartfelt, sexy, intimate, hungry, sincere, vulnerable, joyous, loving, and passionate on the highest level. It's Richonne. And I love that every time I see this stunning reunion scene I can palpably feel the joy radiating off my two favorite characters as they relish in having found the other half of their soul against all odds. Rick and Michonne's connection is one of a kind and their every kiss reflects that. And this #1 kiss is a shining example of why Richonne has a love supreme. Truly a love story for the ages. ♥️

Piggybacking off that other post about Rick protecting Michonne. Could you do a top list of this for moments in TWD and TOWL?

Aw yeah! I can think of so many ways that Rick protected Michonne and vice versa - both physically and emotionally. But I figured I could do a list right here of some of the notable moments that Rick more physically protected Michonne throughout the seasons 😊⬇️:

Pre-Canon

Starting with pre-canon - In Season 3, I always like how in Clear, Rick and Michonne both have a moment of looking out for each other when having close calls with Morgan’s booby traps. Michonne warns Rick about the welcome mat and he stops her from stepping on a wire on the stairs. 

In Season 4, Rick does what he has to do to stop those Claimers from assaulting her and Carl both in that house in 4.11 and in their final confrontation with the Claimers in the season 4 finale. 

In Season 5, we see Rick’s protective side with Michonne even more. Rick wanting Michonne to stay with Carl and Judith while he and others retrieved Beth and Carol, felt like not only does he want his kids to stay safe at the church but he wants Michonne safe with them too.

And then in 5.09, he’s super aware of Michonne’s feelings while in Noah’s neighborhood and seems eager to offer her some comfort in varying ways - from light arm taps when she’s visibly disappointed to agreeing to go to Washington after she makes her case on why they should go. And there’s a more blatant moment of protection in this 5.09 episode when Michonne swings her sword at a walker but it has a rod in its neck so Rick quickly comes to help her. Rick’s also protective when he runs after her as they fight those walkers at night in 5.11. 

Post-Canon

Then in Richonne’s post-canon era, some memorable moments of Rick protecting Michonne is him being adamant about getting to her during Negan’s first ASZ visit in 7.04 and getting her to give up the gun so that it can’t backfire and lead him to lose her.

It always feels protective in Say Yes, when Michonne sees the deer and goes to get a gun then Rick wakes up and, even though she tries to assure him he doesn't have to be worried, he still runs after her. And when Michonne is dazed thinking she lost him later in the ep, Rick makes his way out and makes it a priority to get Michonne’s sword to her.

And I love the protectiveness of the way he holds her in their iconic hug.

In 7.15, we don’t even get to see Rick and Michonne have too many scenes together but the scenes they do have features signature protective Rick as he helps Michonne up the tree and ensures she’s good. There were so many tasks to be done that day and I love that making sure Michonne was safe in that tree was a task Rick wanted to take on personally.

And then in 7.16, the comforting way Rick is with Michonne when he and Carl run to find her after the fight is so heartwarming and the way he stays by her side as she recovers in the infirmary is great and protective too. 

In season 8, I appreciate the big and little acts of protectiveness like Rick running after Michonne to help extinguish the place that Carl used to sit and helping her see they have to go as the walkers swarm the place more and more.

In that same 8.10 episode, Rick makes a shield out of a door for Michonne and the way he hands it to her always feels so sweet and protective.

I also love the protective act of Rick wiping Michonne’s tears when he finds her crying while reading Carl’s letter to her. It was a really touching way to see him want to be there for her emotionally even with him being in such emotional disarray himself. 

TOWL

Then TOWL came along and as the previous anon said, it really spotlighted Rick’s protectiveness of Michonne, especially physically which was great. Even as early as 1.01 when Rick learns Okafor knows about Michonne and Judith and he starts throwing hands knowing they could be in danger if Okafor and any more of the CRM know about his wife and daughter.

Then in 1.02, Rick quickly comes up with the plan for Michonne to adopt a new identity in order to protect her from the CRM. And he continually reassures her that he’ll find a way to break them out and keep her safe.

In 1.03, the way Rick convinces Pearl to vouch for “Dana", the way he is prepared to take out Pearl in that arena when he thinks she might attack Michonne, and the way he gets in front of Pearl’s gun without hesitation while out in those foggy woods are all signs of Rick's protectiveness.

As well as Rick making that getaway plan for Michonne and going ahead of her to clear the path and ensure her escape is as smooth as possible and then helping Michonne push that RDIM and taking her hand to lead her away from it when it’s about to go off.

I also always love seeing Rick immediately reach for Michonne to shield her when the RDIM does go off.

Probably one of the most visible acts of physical protection is when Rick runs after Michonne in the apartment in 1.04 and shields her with his body when the glass breaks and comes flying.

Rick also is very protective when she coughs in that red lit hall and later when her leg is trapped under the chandelier and he’s determined to stay by her side and get her unstuck. 

In 1.05, Rick setting up that trip wire in that cabin is one of the ways he keeps her safe and in 1.06, there are wordless protective moments like taking Michonne’s hand as they walk toward the tent with Pearl aiming a gun at them and later when Rick makes sure Michonne gets up on the platform before himself. 

I was just thinking the other day about how much I love that Rick fell in love with Michonne for the person she is, not just the asset she is. She’s so much more than just the powerhouse samurai some characters and viewers reduced her to. She has such a refreshing multidimensionality, and Rick saw that and fell hard for her in all her layers. Hence, the Michonne in Rick’s TOWL dreams was so smiley and warm. And I love that Rick admired how capable Michonne is while also feeling so eager to protect her and keep her safe, as evidenced in all these moments and more. 👌🏽😌

Gold on gold on solid gold. 🤩 This kiss is everything. I love that our fandom recognizes this kiss as the 'Kiss of Life' because it really is life-giving. And it forever holds a special place in my heart because for a long while it was my all-time favorite Richonne kiss and is still my favorite Richonne kiss from TWD. I don't know what extra they put in this kiss to make it so hypnotic but it really never fails to mesmerize me every time I see this undeniably top tier moment. This kiss deserves so much praise for depicting the everlasting strength, passion, comfort, and endurance of Richonne's love 🥰...

Richonne's iconic Kiss of Life is ingrained in my brain and whenever this scene pops up on my timeline, there is no such thing as watching it just once lol. It's just too good and one of Richonne's absolute most powerful moments that embodies the unique and heartwarming strength of their relationship. I so appreciate that Richonne was able to connect and have a kiss with this level of passion, love, and devotion even amid one of their most trying times when they weren't on the same page. Being oppressed by Negan had been taking a toll on both of them as they had to go against their very nature as fighters and stand down.

They have different ideas on how to fight for their lives, but what they don't differ on is how much they still love each other. And with this kiss, they communicated "I love you and I'm with you" at a time when they needed that reassurance most. And as I've noted in previous revelings on this scene, this kiss was also a loud and clear indicator that they still in every way desire and crave each other, even when they're on different pages.

The choreography of this moment is just perfect. Rick is feeling pretty dejected about Carl and Michonne not going on this run with him, and as he has this moment to bid Michonne goodbye, you can tell how much he longs to remain connected with her as he hands her the walkie and goes in for a hug. And then I adore with everything in me that Michonne takes his face and redirects him so that they can have a more intimate sendoff. This was one of my favorite things Michonne's done as a wife because she knew her man needed his spirit lifted and she did that beautifully here.

I love that even with her wanting to go her own way to figure this Savior stuff out, she still has so much respect for Rick trying in his own way. And especially after Rick confided in her about not being Judith's biological father the episode prior, I feel like she really wants to let Rick know that she sees and reveres him and his heart. Rick had been expected to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders for so long before Michonne. But now here she is and with this kiss, it truly is like she removes some of that weight and just gives him so much restoration and centering like only she can.

I love the way it feels like everything else disappears for a moment as they just let their love take center stage. I love that this kiss takes its time as though for right now nothing is more important than just being present in this moment with each other and affirming they're in this together. I love Rick being so quick to reciprocate and pull her in closer and the way Michonne really looks like she feels safest when she's in his arms. Michonne's hand subtly in his hair and kissing his top and bottom lip are all just really nice details and then they of course keep the goodness going after the kiss as well.

Richonne's signature forehead touch and sway actually makes its first appearance here and I love that they do this. It's so intimate and personal and I love that after that kiss they don't want to pull away just yet. They still just want to bask in each other a bit longer, especially because this is where they so often get strength. There is something so precious about Rick thanking her for that kiss. He knows she did something invaluable for him right there. This kiss further solidified that Richonne's love is unbreakable and can stand the test of time. And how true that is, because even after a major wrench is thrown in their lives when they're taken from each other for years, Richonne's love never wanes and it leads them to find each other again for a certain reunion kiss that manages to take the throne as Richonne's #1 kiss on my list. ♥️

when that kid who reminds you of what it was like to be a mother passes out on your shoulder
