i want to share with yall my little thought about how Alex and Nigel's lives would probably have turned out if they didnt met.
i will try to express my thoughts the best i can, but english isnt my first language, so it can be a little tricky. also, remember that its just my feelings and thoughts towards that and feel free to correct me if i twisted some facts from the film:]]]]
so first, nigel
i think its a very simple guess. because i feel like he would simply find someone else to be in alex's position. he was so psychotically obsessed with symbols, associations and metaphors that he would find someone who fit his narration even just because of a small thing (for example how we see in the last scene that alex talked to kid in the train because he spotted history book in his hands). he would end up killing someone either way, he just needed that "activator"
and, alex
i was carried away by my fantasy in this one, and its pretty much just something that i think would have happened. i see that a lot of people just straight up ignored the fact that alex was a coward and a bully because of an later impact of nigel being psycho mess that made us view alex as an innocent victim.
but now i want us to focus on that part and remember that this guy in the beginning spotted this "new weird kid" (nigel) and casually decided to knock him out of conciousness, kidnap him and later he aggressively stuck nigel's head out SPEEDING train. he wasnt that innocent, and we know it. he probably did it to others too. i guess if he had never met nigel, he would continue to bully others and trouble his father, obviosuly. but we saw how far and dangerous he took his bullying, so i think that he would end up killing someone. however, he wouldnt do that on purpose. being honest, he was just a pussy who acted out and liked to physically hurt others just to show his father how "rebelious and bad" he is, but he was too scared to actually kill someone. i think that one time he would take his bullying too far causing someone's death by accident

Okay so i already told you all to hear me out about Like Minds and Demian's similarity so i might as well show you some quotes and tell you about that one thing i fucking cannot stand because of how similar it is
"Sinclair feels that he does not entirely belong to the strict milieu of his bourgeois order, as his propensity toward adventure, evil, and wandering exceed the serene wisdom of his ancestors. He also feels—rather hazily at the beginning, and more and more acutely as he progresses in life—that he bears a special existential “mark,” identified by his schoolmate Max Demian as the “sign of Cain.” Demian does not interpret Cain as a figure of damnation, as in the Bible, but as a hero whose metaphysical predestination—his “election”—entitles him to surpass his humble condition as a farmer, and to “go beyond,” into the special order of the few who are allowed to act out of pure power, beyond restrictions and morality.
Demian teaches Sinclair that those who are marked by the sign should "go beyond" and become superior beings, rejoicing in the exuberant integrity of their existence, which is a combination of luminous and dark forces. "Going beyond," Demian explains, means living off-limits, beyond good and evil, and experiencing liberty as a totalizing cosmic eruption, in which God and Devil come together."
Doesnt it sounds like the scene when Nigel tells Alex about the Templar Knights and that they were brought together for a reason? that they are important in something so great that normal people cannot understand it? Demian wanted to be friend with Sinclair because he "saw" his mark, " the Cain’s mark, which Demian and Sinclair discuss to be not only a curse, but a sign of higher intellect and a “greater character”. I think this - they discuss it at school, pretty much when they first meet - makes them see eachother as soulmates."

“I’m still obsessed with creating a false world, and will be until I die. […] in my imagination I line up the characters – so alive and dependable!– who occupy my inner life, and this makes me feel cosy, like sitting by a warm fire in winter. I have a world of friends inside me, with their own real, individual, imperfect lives.”
— Fernando Pessoa, The Book of Disquiet (via honeygoblin)
