#i've come back around on anj 1970 i think#yes the animation is (extremely) jank but also the rough around the edges style matches the first half of the manga.#the way it handles animating fights is so far apart from the rest of anime and it works so well for what its portraying.#like the extended sequences of just beating the shit out of each other does wonders for making the fights feel scrappy and amateurish#and when it switches to a more conventional impact frame heavy style (ie: wolf cross counter and rikiishi uppercut) it#creates a super tight contrast that makes them feel impactful where in another anime they'd just be much closer to just another punch#ashita no joe

HUGE news! - Kodansha Comics has announced they will be releasing the boxing classic Ashita no Joe manga in English! Being released under the title Ashita no Joe: Fighting For Tomorrow, the release will be eight oversized hardcover volumes. Vol 1 is scheduled for December 2024, with a retail price of of $59.95 USD. It will also be available digitally. 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the manga's original completion in Japan.
