“Where the people are”
It’s nearly twenty years ago, now, children. Facebook had only recently burst the bounds of Harvard Yard. Twitter had just slipped the bonds of the digital underground. But web geeks like me still saw “social media” as a continuation of the older digital networks, protocols, listservs, and discussion forums we’d come up using, and not as the profound disruption that, partnered with smartphones…

Excellent series. I particularly enjoyed the episode in the final series at Susie’s roast, which was when Midge and Susie re-united after having fallen out. Heart-tuggingly good.
The #MarvelousMrsMaisel ending was such a perfect way to wrap up both Midge and Susie's story. That flash forward into Midge's fame was such a beautiful way to show us she made it, while we watch how she fought to get there.

I just finished watching 1899, from the makers of Dark (which I loved). As with Dark, Metacrone has done an amazing, astute analysis:
“While Dark was character heavy and much of the work in following the story was keeping track of who was where and when, 1899 is symbol and theme heavy, with an emphasis on the plot as a puzzle or game, maybe a quest. The characters are archetypes as much as they are individuals. It’s a good idea to practice a little detachment with them and watch more for the themes they are illustrating rather than getting caught up in their particular circumstances.”

Scroll to 3:20 for an incredible performance of ‘Vienna’ by Ultravox in 1984. I first saw this on Guy Garvey’s ‘From the Vaults’ series that screened this year on UK tv. How does Midge Ure manage to sing so well with no mic prop to cling onto? I don’t know, but he does.
