Interesting read about TikTok privacy

I wanted to do more research as to why specifically is the focal point for data privacy protection and how its origins are impacting its current controversy. I read this article that touched upon some of the points mentioned in the article but I was most surprised to read about the specific manners in which its content is an issue regarding data privacy. For example, it mentions how there have been accusations about content regarding "pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong" being suppressed. I never thought about its implications on an international level and how its rising popularity in the US can push content that could potentially be biased or suppressed.
