REFLECTION
As years passed, I’ve been living here in Barangay Sienna, which means living in a place vulnerable to flood. It’s normal for me already to experience flooding during rainy seasons and to walk on the water just to get our wet stuff. Sometimes my family chooses to stay inside the house even if we know that it’s going to flood maybe because we value our things so much and we want to be here once the flood is gone. We experience every single thing during calamities so we are aware of what’s happening and what response are we going to take for a particular scenario. As I interview the Kagawad, she already knows that my family experienced a lot already so they told us that if we need help they are willing to help us not only during calamities. Doing the community walk saddens me because I see how vulnerable our community is during calamities. Roads and drainage are broken which can be the main cause of why we are even experiencing this type of calamity.

BEST PRACTICES
One of the practice that can contribute to the lowering of floods in the community is proper segregation wherein people throw their garbage at the proper bin thus making the community a better place to live in.

SAFE PLACES
One of the safe places here near the community is the upper street part due to the reason that these places are not vulnerable to flood.

Hazardous Places
One of the hazardous places in our community is the intersection here in Banawe. During flood season, this area will be invisible to your sight due to the level of flood here. The reason why is because the drainage here in Banawe is not fixed so every time there’s flood, this is always considered as a hazardous place.

COMMUNITY WALK
Since Barangay Sienna has a big population, I decided to explore the areas where I can identify the place as hazardous, safe, and best practices of the community.

Capacity and Disaster Management Assessment
Signs and warnings are placed in the community to ensure the safety such as signs regarding how dangerous the level of flood already. Additional to this, Barangay communities near us are helping hand in hand in order for us to be helped once a calamity struck the community. When talking about preparedness, the community will always have canned goods stock in their houses for emergency uses.

Vulnerability, Elements, and People at Risk Assessment
Basically in our community, the most affected areas are places near the Araneta river due to the reason that whenever the river becomes full during flood the water will directly flow to their areas thus creating a domino effect wherein we are the last ones affected but also the last one to recover. During the flood, a team of rescuers in Quezon City are roaming around the area to make that people get enough help during flood. Some people evacuate once being told that there is at least 90% of chance to flood for their own safety but some people choose to stay just because they want to know that their houses are safe. Moreover, people who are rescued by the team are brought to Lourdes School and serves as their evacuation area.

HAZARD IDENTIFICATION
For the interview, Kagawad Star told me about the calamities that continuously strike our community such as typhoons that can cause strange floods. In our community it is common for us to experience flood instead of earthquakes. We experience flood during the rainy season but not only that, we also experience it when its a normal day of rain. The community I live in is known to be low compared to other communities which can cause massive flood due to the area being surrounded by the river in Araneta. Our community is near that river which also is the main reason why we experience flood.

Major Gist of The Blog
For this module, we are required to create a blog regarding the vulnerability of our barangay when it comes to disaster risk management. I used tumblr to simply input my thoughts with the help of our barangay.
