legit so annoyed about the way the corporate media wants to paint those women waiting outside the court as crazy and as only being there because Luigi is hot. I looked up pictures of them outside the court and they all held signs and were there to send a message: "health over wealth", "denial of medical care = violence", "murder for profit = terrorism", "the United States healthcare stole my livelihood", "insurance lobbyists line politicians' pockets", "healthcare reform NOW". Yeah, they're there because he's hot for sure. Also, there were a lot of men as well but hey, that's not helping the narrative right?

This week, I read a fic that was around 20 years old, which had originally been posted on the author's personal website and which she added to AO3 a few years ago. She listed her email address with the fic, so after I finished reading, I sent her an email saying how much I enjoyed the story, how much I appreciated the work and effort she obviously put into it, and thanked her for uploading it to AO3. She responded the next day and thanked me for my message, then said she had a few more stories in the same series that she hadn't gotten around to uploading. I checked this morning--she added a 35,000 word novella and thanked me in the summary.

There's lots of problems with USA public education but also a lot of you were just drawing Naruto characters kissing while your history teacher tried to tell you about the Scramble for Africa

Briana Boston didn't threaten anyone.
When my grandmother was sent a death threat through text message, I reported it to the police. The officer told me that "it's not considered a death threat unless the message mentions a weapon and a deadline".
As a result, they didn't do anything. Not even a verbal warning to that person.
Or, there's a double standard when it comes to billionaires and big corporations. Who'd have thought.

Now that I'm older and a little more experienced in fiber crafts and textile work, I don't think we give Rarity enough credit. She made custom tailored boutique-grade formal wear for five of her friends, showed she knew their interests and personalities well enough to work them into the outfits, and gave it to them for free, and all of them had the gall to say "well it could be better". And she didn't even think about burning their houses down.

luigi mangione, the SUSPECTED (innocent until proven guilty) united healthcare shooter, has been charged with terrorism. that鈥檚 right. a man who supposedly shot ONE SINGLE PERSON is being charged with terrorism. because in america, billionaires lives matter enough that a SINGLE rich man鈥檚 death is considered a terrorist act against this country. think about that.

The absolute social whiplash of growing up on a rural farm with your mom and uncle to suddenly being in close quarters with Hawkeye and trapper of all people

A (non exhaustive) list of actual things (some of which are straight up bonkers) that have happened in my seemingly sedate life:
My parents turning down an arranged marriage between me and my sister, and the sons of an African prince they just casually knew (it wasn't super serious tbh)
Meeting a dutchess cause she was related to my dads best friend (she was a raging bitch and we all hated her)
My dad not being in the pentagon on 9/11 cause he got injured during PT
My 1st real school lock down being 9/11 cause we were a large school (off base) made up of predominantly current and former service members kids
My mom getting into a neighborhood war w a suspected drug dealer that ended in him apologizing and giving us gifts
Getting out of doing homework cause my domestic terrorist relative died in federal prison despite not having memories of the jackass and being hated by that side of the family
The Dr who delivered me asked my mom if he needed to call security cause I came out tan w black hair and both my parents are white (both have native and European ancestors)
3 almost arranged marriages (that I know of) including the above mentioned
My high school threatening to sue a meme website cause I bullied teachers on it (unintentionally)
My college best friend trying to pass off kill bill as his real life
Literally being bullied in college because some people couldn't leave hs behind
Setting off museum alarms by moving a certain on a window in hs
Japanese teacher laughed at my name because it's slang for virgin and only finding out a year later cause my friend felt bad she giggled
My nose being traumaticly amputated from my face as a small child (it's back on now)
#i would like to know what my author is on and if they can share#real life#personal#is it a trauma dump if most of the traumatic things on this list don't crack the top 10 for me

never seen mash why is one of them always serving unfathomable amounts of cunt
like i couldn鈥檛 name a single character apart from hawkeye who apparently has nothing to do with the marvel superhero. no idea what the premise of the show is or what it鈥檚 about but i know there鈥檚 the cheeky bisexual guy (hawkeye i think) and the cuntress who is, according to the few gifsets i鈥檝e seen (correct me if i鈥檓 wrong), one of the guys who鈥檚 in drag a lot of the time. this is what the characters look like to me

It really is remarkable how MASH's longevity so totally shapes the experience of watching the show. It's a war that lasts three years, over a decade has passed, everyone's hair has gone grey, the head nurse has become a different person, the wisecracker has cracked, children grow up, marriages come and go, people leave, the new guy is only there for a year, he's become a part of your soul, it's winter again and again and again and again.
I genuinely don't think there's a better way to imitate how an experience like that can so completely change people. No TV program can capture the intensity of bonds forged through three years in a warzone, but by continuing for eleven seasons the fans are able to still develop that level of attachment to the people of the 4077th.
There's a scene where Hawkeye tries to commiserate with BJ about missing the folks back home, and BJ says that Hawkeye's dad will be the same as he always was but BJ missed out on Erin's development in a way he'll never get back. Now I love this interaction, but I think BJ is forgetting that the people they left behind aren't the only ones changing.
Compare Hawkeye in the pilot to him in the finale, do you really think his father will recognize him? They're both adults, it's only been three years, it shouldn't be that different; and yet Hawkeye's hair is grey and his eyes have lost their spark. You couldn't get that in three seasons of TV. Even if they'd tried, it wouldn't have felt as genuine and organic to the viewers because we wouldn't have gotten to really feel that gradual shift in Hawkeye's persona. It's not just about the writers planning out arcs for the characters, it's about the series itself developing over time.

MASH really is the ultimate "love didn't save them but it was there and it mattered" media to me, because love couldn't save Hawkeye's sanity or BJ's temper or Margaret's marriage or Charles' music or Henry or anyone else. Nothing can save them. But also the love was there. It was there in the squabbles and bicker and the still and getting spareribs from Chicago and the red party and BJ's wedding anniversary and taking care of sophie and Radar's pets and the Life magazine with scenic pictures from Maine. It was even in drugging CIA men and unnecessary appendectomies and barging into peace talks and blowing up tongue depressor towers. And the love mattered so much because it gave them a semblance of living and not just surviving, a life to fight against war and destruction of life. It was the one thing that kept them human despite it all. I truly think nothing mattered more than love in MASH.

it is past time we jettisoned the useless false dichotomy of introversion vs. extroversion and just accepted that everybody has a minimum amount of social interaction, failing which, they get really weird. and everybody has a maximum amount of social interaction, exceeding which, they get really weird. these levels are different for everyone, for a variety of reasons, and have no moral dimension. and that is all.
