So, what if, instead of thinking about solving your whole life, you just think about adding additional good things. One at a time. Just let your pile of good things grow.

Inu Ākena To drink until your thirst is quenched. To fill your cup with ʻike that has been passed down from generation to generation in keeping our culture alive. Tomorrow’s kūpuna, today. Mahalo to @wahinewaiu for pouring some of his mana’o into us and ideas for this page and mahalo to @808prime for our new logo and being able to put onto paper the idea we had in our heads. Our journey began on the front lines of Hūnānaniho, marking the Lā, ʻepaki mahina, a me nā ʻŌlelo noʻeau. In doing so, we were able to connect with our community and our kūpuna, in ways we didn’t before. When we decided it was time to go home, we had many people ask if we would continue sharing our mana’o. Thus, Inu Ākena was born. Hulali and I have a passion for kēia ʻĀina, nā ʻike a me nā hana, being and becoming self-sustaining in all areas, and growing. We hope that this page inspires you to connect. We hope that this page excites you to seek. And we hope that this page fills your cup. Mahalo nui for those of you who have followed us this far and if you’re just joining us, holo ka luana💚 #InuĀkena (at Waimānalo Hawaiian Homestead) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAbTU9xj4eP/?igshid=3r50x06ov76

In this space, when my feet can feel the rough and pointy edges of the rock, the cold water kissing my feet..the sun only risen a few hours before...we’re there to holoholo and try to bring home mea ‘ai. My soul is listening , connecting to the waves of energy, the essence of this ʻĀina waking up to greet a new day, a new adventure. And I’m here watching her come to life. #InuĀkena https://www.instagram.com/p/CAXVfxnDh2H/?igshid=17q7d3uq80ows

Pupuhi ka umu, moʻa pala ka ʻai. When the umu smokes, the food is underdone. Talking is easy..saying you’re going to do something vs. actually doing it...I had to really think about this no’eau and which area of my life it spoke most to and I’ve struggled with depression for as long as I can remember...for the most part, I thought I had it under control. But in the last 25 years, I spent most of my adult life alone, meaning without a significant other and up until recently, I’ve only ever lived with my mom. One can say that being comfortable in bad habits is an understatement. I have always pushed for being positive and optimistic but that was talking to other people; Sabotaging myself has become so second nature that I don’t even realize I do it. If you’ve ever heard the story about the two wolves and whichever one you feed, is the one that grows.. my bad habit is feeding the depressed wolf. The ones who are closest to me, get the worst of my attitude and after I’ve calmed down and thought rationally... I tell them and myself that I’ll do better, that I’m trying...but I realize that I can try harder. I can occupy my time with learning all the things I’ve talked about and said I wished I knew how to do. I can meditate like I’ve done in the past, start exercising again, I can learn new things like how to grow my own mea ‘ai, learn how to ‘ōlelo Hawai’i and actually practice when I speak aloud. I can read on all the things I wanna know. I’m blessed to be where I am today and surrounded by the people that surround me, but no one else is going to get me out of my hole and fill that shit so I can’t go back down. And it’s not fair to dump rain on the very ones who continue to love me through all of it...putting action into the positive changes that I need to make. Breaking free from habits that don’t benefit me or where I’m going in this life. Thinking about my life like the food in the umu...I don’t want it underdone. I want to take my time to cook something ‘ono. Taking the time to change my brain’s initial thought process and turn it from sour to sweet. #InuĀkena

Huuu ka wela! It's HOT! But still, a beautiful day ma Hawai'i nei. Tonight's moon is AKUA. The Akua moon is good for planting kalo, 'uala, and mai'a, otherwise known as: taro, sweet potato (tubers), and banana. As most of us know the word Akua translates to God, but what about other definitions of the word akua? Well, one of the definitions of akua is the name of a variety of mai'a, the mai'a Polapola. So it makes sense to plant this mai'a under the Akua moon. Going back to the word Akua as translated to God, we also know that the word Akua translates to many elements of the spiritual realm, including but not limited to: the divine, supernatural, goddess, spirit, ghost, corpse, devil, or idol. So it comes as no surprise that on this particular moon it is said that this is the night that the Akua (in all forms, as mentioned) walk amongst us. Tonight's moon is also the first of 3 full moons. Other teachings say that there are 4 full moons, the first of 4 being last nights Hua moon. Some say the 4 moons start tonight and end on Kulu. But from what I was taught, Kulu translates to time that has passed or to trickle down, so when we look at the moon Kulu, I was taught that the (full)moon(s) have passed and has begun to trickle down in shape. For all our kanaka lawai'a, Akua is a good time for fishing for red i'a(fish). This moon also consists of extreme high and low tides, mainly low in the morning, high in the afternoon and then again low in the evening. It is recommended for best fishing to be out deep sea fishing in the early morning hours, and reef fishing at night. I hope you all find this 'ike useful! https://www.instagram.com/p/B_1APOADOch/?igshid=1l144px9winul

Huna: nvs. Hidden secret; hidden. A good way to remember what this mahina means when it comes to your mala is to remember that huna means hidden or to hide and rooted plants grow under the dirt, hidden. This mahina is a great time to plant foods such as ʻipu, ʻōlena, kalo, ʻuala, kāloke, ʻakaʻakai, ginger, and other rooted vegetables. This is also a good time to go holo holo buuuut don’t be too surprised if they stay hiding😉 Join us kēia pō on our Facebook page @ Inu Ākena for a quick Q&A❤️ (at Waimanalo, Hawaii) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_tzHA_jxMy/?igshid=3b9crg79s26w

ʻOle kū kolu ka ‘epaki mahina kēia pō and lemme tell youuuu Kuike and I went down to the kahakai earlier today and I was in the water snorkeling around looking for the piles. The first throw was on a good sized pile but they scattered when the net hit the water, so we only caught a few and for the rest of the time, they were swimming juuust out of his range of throw from the wall! I kept trying to swim them in but the current was pushing me and I didn’t wanna get too close and scare them so I probably looked like a hot mess but I was trying 😅😂
There was another time, a little later, that I was just coming out of the channel and he was still fixing his net from the last throw and a fricken Uhu swam in front of me! I got up from the water to signal him but he wasn’t pau with the net so I was like shoot I’m not gonna tell him (sorry babe🥴😘 in my defense, he swam outward and fast)
It felt so nice to be in the water and blessed to have had the chance and that we made it home safely❤️
I hope everyone is having a great week thus far and don’t forget to let us know what Aloha ‘Āina means to you! Drop pictures, posts, videos, we wanna see what you’re up to during quarantine. Ke aloha nui😘 #ʻOleMoonDasWhy #Mahina #AlohaʻĀina #Waimānalo

“Way too good at camouflage
Can't see what I am
I just see what I'm not
I'm guilty 'bout everything that I eat
(Every single thing)
Feeling myself is a felony
Jedi level sabotage
Voices in my head make up my entourage
'Cause I'm a black belt when I'm beating up on myself
But I'm an expert at giving love to somebody else
I, me and myself and
I , don't see eye to
Eye, me and myself and
I
Oh, why do I compare myself to everyone?
And I always got my finger on the self destruct
I wonder when I love me is enough (Yeah, yeah, yeah)
I wonder when I love me is enough (Yeah, yeah, yeah)”
I Love Me- Demi Lovato
I feel every single word to this song

Kēia lā we went back to Hūnānāniho, just to Check on things and what we found was a road that looked like some kind of machine rolled through, and ‘opala piles throughout the trail as well as along side the road. The trash along the roadside was the orange fence they use for construction...so in regards to all the claims made that there’s no debris coming from phase 1 and whatnot...here’s more proof that there is rubbish and since this place flood with heavy rain...wanna guess how much trash gets into our ocean??
It’s so disheartening to know that this place is not being taken cared of as before. We picked up all that we could but we know more needs to be done.
