tbh the tumblr therian community is so refreshing. There’s so much good information on here. Sure there are people on here who are confused but it’s not as bad as tik tok and such.

Yes quadrobics are fun, yes masks and tails help soothe the altherhuman soul (for me at least) but those things don’t make you therian or otherkin. It’s so nice to not be caught up in quads and masks. I can just be a silly little pup.

Not to mention it’s so fun to read the long rants and explanations on these topics. It reminds me of when I was on the forums to understand myself better.

Semi rant but it's kinda annoying how therians immeditaly get coined with quadrobics/walking on all fours. The identity part get's really pushed out of the way for outsiders, not having any other look on the community than younger people wearing masks and doing quads.

A therian is not defined by mobility/a sport. A therian is not defined by wearing mask nor a tail nor any gear, if you don't want or have any. A therian is not defined by age.

I dislike the TikTok part of the community for that, even though I post on TikTok myself.

Songs for your nonhuman playlist

(that aren't the same 5 artists you see everywhere)

A lot of therian playlists have the same vibe (fish in a birdcage, running with the wolves, dirty paws and life is strange adjacent music) and while I don't necessarily mind, I usually listen to heavier music. plus some of them have been tiktokified and that's a quick way to make me sick of something.

Fortunately, metal offers a lot of stuff because for some reason there is a significant interest in exploring a more animalistic side. which is great if you're actually a therian because you can read it straight without caring about the details or whether it's played straight or not.

so, if you want a different sound for your nonhuman playlist...

here's some palate cleansers

Lycanthropy by Patrick Wolf. I heavily recommend checking out the album as a whole

Therianthropy by Septicflesh. Despite the name, I'm not sure if this song is about the modern concept of therianthropy, or if it's related to the earlier, historical meaning of the term, which brings to mind totem animals or animal spirits that serve as protectors. The band is too niche for me to figure that out. Either way, I would describe this as "wolf metal"

Lycanthrope (Howling at the Moon) by Bloodsucking Zombies from outer space

Suden Uni by Moonsorrow. Concept album about turning into a wolf. I love this specific sound to death.

Before I Forget by Slipknot. The nonhuman interpretation of this song is the only valid interpretation, and it's the exact kind of melodic yell/singing that I absolutely love.

Animal I Have Become by Three Days Grace. Yeah, that's right, I am going to listen to the same stuff I was into when I was younger.

You Are The Wilderness by Voxhaul Broadcast. This is a personal favorite of mine as a long-time fan of The Walking Dead and because I'm wolfhearted and a zombie. So not everyone's gonna be into it.

Animal by Miike Snow. This one is pop, but it's really good. I can't read the meaning as anything other than being nonhuman. I recommend the album as further listening too. It's enough that the band did some interesting stuff. You might vaguely remember Genghis Khan from these guys from the early 2010s. Sweet, sweet nostalgia.

Horseshoe Crab by Slothrust. I'm honestly surprised by how nonhuman this song is. I genuinely can't think of what this would be a metaphor for. This is literally about being a horseshoe crab, and experiencing shifts.

That teenager who spends all their time drawing wolves might be a wolf therian or werewolfkin

The person who only watches movies and shows about fantasy races might be fictionkin or otherkin

Or more likely there are hundreds of people whose interests don't match their alterhumanity!

Or even more likely, there are probably hundreds of people in the world who are alterhuman and have literally no idea!

You've probably met somebody who was alterhuman before, whether you knew or even if THEY knew it at the time.

Theriantok is very heavily centered around ableism and fatphobia. Transphobia and racism too but thats a conversation for a different time.

Much of theriantok is based around quadrobics and masks, not that this is a bad thing by itself! But it leaves open little room for people trying to spread information!

The algorithm pushes out people with pretty scenery, good quality, a nice mask, skinny body and very good quads.

This leads younger therians, (who are oft3n actually otherhearted) to only see that side! Only seeing past lives and connections, only seeing skinny bodies doing perfect quads with very palatable feelings.

Animal urges are demonized, doing messy quads is ugly.

Being fat gets you nowhere, your just cringe.

If your delusional in any way they hate you, and say your promoting delusions.

You must be sane, you must be skinny, you must be pretty.

I hate this culture on tiktok, i want to SEE my fellow freaks and creatures, animals who arent fully sane and their therianthropy stems from delusion. Animals who run around in the mud and growl at strangers.

I want animals like me.

going on runs and hikes to calm that dawg in me. While I can’t do quads it’s good to still get out in nature. My uni campus thankfully has a trail on it! I’m thinking of walking to the pet store as well. They have critters there I can talk to since I can’t have pets in my room. 💔
